Hard to stay what to make of this place as there was a lot wrong but compared to the horror show reviews I read of other Hilton properties in the area, I’ll call my stay adequate. But I am really being kind. Anywhere but a popular city on a high demand weekend in a city that just forced all the short term apartment rentals out, I’d be demanding a full refund.
First the good:
It’s an older building and there is little noise between walls. Our room was set back from the road so even the traffic noise wasn’t too bad if you used a white noise app. I put a premium on quiet rooms so this was a big deal for me and the main reason I didn’t give this hotel a lower rating.
The location is great, near trains and many tourist areas and there are good local bars, restaurants, and shopping nearby.
The room was very clean and the staff were friendly and tried their best, though they were clearly overwhelmed. There was a real bathtub which was nice and there was plenty of hot water.
The bad:
Narrow halls let to microscopically tiny rooms. The bed was rock hard and the one chair wasn’t any better. The plumbing on the toilet and shower were hanging on by a thread. They worked but barely.
They are critically understaffed. When we checked in it took 10 minutes for someone to show up at the front desk. There was NO COFFEE and NO BREAKFAST in the morning. The one person who seemed to be there could not handle the demand. On the first morning we walked into a room with a large crowd crammed into a tiny space waiting around a breakfast room with completely empty trays. There was nothing, not a crumb, and the garbage cans were overflowing onto the floor. After 30 minutes we managed to get a pice of bread and one coffee before they ran out of food and drinks again. The second morning was the same so we didn’t even try, we just went out for breakfast.
The bathrooms, while clean, were otherwise under stocked. The toiletry bottles were mostly empty and we got half a roll of toilet paper. The hotel said housekeeping came every other day but when they did show they only made the bed and did nothing else.
So if you’d like a small, spare, very quiet room in Manhattan and can’t manage to get admitted to one of the city’s fine mental hospitals, try the Hampton Inn in Chelsea. Just don’t bother waiting around for breakfast.

Front desk staff cheerful; room was clean; breakfast staff very cheerful. Breakfast was fine, typical fare of a business class hotel but unusually well cared for area, with several staff constantly maintaining, replenishing and greeting people. We checked-in on a Monday, out on a Friday, one room cleaning on Wednesday, no surprises. We have stayed here twice a year for the last three years, and are never disappointed. Prices have climbed dramatically in this time but that is true of the market as a whole in this area and in comparison, this Hampton Inn remains on the lower cost end of the range. Conveniently located across the street from a nice restaurant/bar (Bar Cicchetti) with an outdoor patio, and a little over a block from Madison Square Park (Eataly...). It's about 1/2 mile to Union Square Park and about 1 mile to Washington Square Park.

Great location. You can walk both uptown and downtown Manhattan, otherwise a few meters away there are two very convenient subway stations. In the evening you can walk well to Times Square. The only drawback, there are few places to eat nearby. Rooms in the norm. For the 10-year-old girl I had to request on arrival the extra bed and set of towels; if you request at reception, they do not clean every day. The girl at reception was helpful and provided us with directions to the metro. He also booked us a taxi to the airport at a good price. Poor breakfast, little assortment and if you do not ask, do not bother to bring back the finished food.

Half-repaired air-conditioned housing, promises not kept, and employees bother to demand that what is offered is fulfilled
They gave us a room with half-arranged air conditioning, we spent a terrible night with a high temperature, demanding that we change rooms they wanted to give us one without wifi, and when I get angry they bother to raise the voice We are changed to a room 6 floors down with rear view AND WE ARE NOT REFUNDED anything... being that it is a lower rate, in the bathroom there is a sign that guarantees the daily Cleanliness of the room and they do NOT do it, just as demanding say that that is not true that they do the room every 2 days!!!! PESIMO HOTEL DON'T GO

My husband and I stayed at this hotel in May as part of a special celebratory trip. The location of the hotel is good and on first glance, there were no huge issues beyond it being overdue an upgrade several years ago and one of the lifts being broken. However, as the days went on, it turned out to be pretty poor given the cost. This isn't a 'cheap' hotel by any means, but appreciate in NYC the scale is huge in what you can get for your money. Firstly, the air con in this hotel is very dated and isn't effective. It was very warm when we visited and the unit in our room was huge, noisy and didn't work very well. The cleaning service was supposed to come every other day of your stay, we stayed for 4 nights and didn't have clean bedsheets, crockery or bathroom for the duration. The breakfast was one of the worst parts of the stay in that the choices were minimal and sub-optimal and it wasn't replenished. There was minimal choice of cereal, bread, small choice of hot food and a waffle maker. No fresh fruit, no pastries and not a good selection of anything else. My husband was unwell on the second morning of our stay so we went down to the buffet around 9am (a bit later than the previous day) and found there to be nothing left. We asked for this to be replenished and we were dismissed by staff. My advice would be to shop around and pay a little more to get a much better quality hotel. If you want the absolute bare minimum (if that), stay here, if you are expecting more definitely go elsewhere.

This hotel is in a great position for exploring the sights. The room was clean and comfortable, with room service every other day. We had booked this hotel as breakfast was included. The choice was satisfactory but at times the staff had difficulty keeping the food supplied. Our main concern was the amount of waste produced. We were surprised that we had to use disposable crockery and cutlery. The plastic knives and forks were difficult to use to eat the cooked food. Each apple was also wrapped in plastic film. In these times when we are trying to reduce plastic waste this was a total disgrace. Each day there were piles of rubbish bags outside the hotel and I suspect a majority of these would be due to the breakfast waste. China crockery and stainless steel cutlery which can go through a dishwasher would reduce waste and also give the hotel a more upmarket feel.

This is my experience. The interior looks of the lobby is small and in need of some updating. That is no big deal. What I noticed is that when it’s late in the evening, most hotels make u scan to get in. This hotel doesn’t. They claim it’s broken and don’t know when it will be fixed. Then when u press the button for the elevator(that don’t light up). You should have to scan to go to your floor. Broken as well. I should mention as I walked through lobby to the elevator, there was no desk and person or security guard visible. When confronted the desk clerk said she was watching via monitors. No security guard.
When u get to your floor the hallways are very narrow. When I found my room, it was reasonable clean. Few problems. Air conditioner didn’t work but blew air, so I didn’t bother. Wasn’t too warm. Mirror in bath was damaged. One of the carpet squares was coming up. I didn’t bother reporting. Bed was fine. The shower had great water pressure. I felt there was no value in what it cost. I spent a little over 1000 for 2 nights. Personally there is zero chance I will stay here again.
This is my experience and my opinions. I am sure there are some people that loved it.

Staff on the whole were good but the breakfast staff were stressed as there were not enough staff to service the number of guests, I thought they did an excellent job in the circumstances. The staff member at check in was abrupt & distant; when we gave our details she asked if we had pre-checked in & then asked if we were at the correct hotel before looking at the her system. The rest of the reception staff were friendly & helpful. Room was ok but we had to place a $200 deposit on a credit card; but the shower rail was damaged which meant the shower curtain did not stay in place & flooded the bathroom every time we took a shower. When we pointed it out to the reception staff we were told that they were aware of the issue. We were told that we were in a non smoking room & had had to sign a form confirming we were aware it was a non smoking room but the air conditioning unit dragged cigarette smoke from guests smoking outside into the room. The breakfast area was far too small for the number of guests resulting in long waiting times in a very cramped area; the food served at breakfast was very poor & we were supplied with paper bowls and plates along with plastic cutlery to use at breakfast. When we asked for our room to be serviced we were told told they only service the room at the end of a stay but could do it after the second day. We also had to ask for fresh towels every day, they were needed as they were used to mop up the water as a result of the broken shower rail. When paying over $155 per night I expect my room to be serviced & towels changed daily and do not expect to be eating from paper plates and bowls using plastic cutlery. we feel sorry for the staff as we think they are being let down by poor management and cost cutting. I would not recommend this hotel.

Booked my stay 6 months in advance, travelled with family and kids, we were supposed to be upgraded (we are diamonds) or at least to had all our rooms in the same floor but no, neither were provided. Felt like being diamond meant nothing for hotel guest service staff, they made me feel uncomfortable (except for the breakfast staff that were lovely people) every day, and I will tell you why.
Rooms were made every 2 days, that is totally unacceptable nowadays since they are charging me full price rates for everyday, I asked as a courtesy for being diamond to get our rooms cleaned everyday but they denied us of that.
We asked everyday the rooms were Not cleaned for towels, none were provided, I even called twice a day, none new towels were provided.
The hotel was packed, And during my whole 7 days stay one elevator out of two was broken. This is unacceptable, I was told by a fellow guest at breakfast that the elevator situation has being like that even before we arrived.
Can’t recommend people to come here, guest service staff is the worst.

The room smelled like mildew. Upon arrival we asked for our water bottles and snacks which are given to Hilton Gold members. Front desk person said waters were in the room. They were not, which was a little disappointing considering we arrived at 12:30am. Front desk person had to ask manager’s permission to give snacks despite the sign on the front desk indicating gold and diamond members get snacks. Needed another bar of soap because only one was supplied for both shower and sink and no other shower gel in shower. Fitness room thermostat didn’t work resulting in extra warm workout. It’s the little things that sometimes can make or break a decision to return. Too many other choices in the area for next time. Have stayed in other Hampton Inns many times with no problems. Won’t be back.

Hi we saw that there was a guest laundry while in the lift but didn’t check it out.
The hotel was in a great spot and the rooms were a decent size. Staff were really helpful. We recommend Eataly restaurant and deli nearby too.
There are more places to choose from in the New York City area.
