This was a first time ever visit to NYC for our family so we had many places in mind that we wanted to see while in the city. The Hyatt Place is in a very convenient location to many of the the tourist destinations, easily by foot or we sometimes took an Uber. The hotel was clean. At the time of our visit there wasn't any room cleaning services due to Covid so we had to bring down our dirty linens and request clean linens and towels from the front desk, this was only a problem in the later part of the day when the line at the front desk was long because of people checking in. The room we had there were 2 queen beds and a pull-out sofa. The pull-out was was uncomfortable but sometimes that is to be expected because it is what it is. The beds were average and we slept comfortably. The room was small but I am told that's how it is in NY. We had a room on the 23rd floor which overlooked the Empire State Building, it was a good view, so very close! The terrace on the 26th floor also has the same incredible view. Since the hotel is not on a busy street the traffic noises on the higher up floors were not very noticeable. I would stay here again if ever we return to NYC and want to be close to the big city sights and tourist spots.

If you are in New York with a fat wallet and wish to drop $500+ per night for your basic 4 star room without a view, life in The Big Smoke can be east peasy.

However, if you are on a retired couple's budget, it is difficult to locate a midtown hotel under $175 that meets 4 star expectations. Permit me yo introduce you to The Hyatt Place on West 36th Street. For the price of a room you get (if you are a Club member); free breakfast, free high speed wi fi, bottled water, fab location, outdoor terrace for enjoying the view, fully equipped gym and the friendliest staff in town.

So what are you waiting for? Make your reservation now.

location is perfect 2 mins from macy's and a subway, 5 mins from times square, less than ten min walk from port bus station or grand central. Plenty of great restaurants nearby.

staff are wonderful - particularly Michael – they can’t do enough to help their guests
The empire view rooms have a better view than the roof terrace.
Breakfast is nice, never any problem with seating, even at peak times – a good selection, and nice coffee with optional syrups to choose from.
Rooms are decent size, beds comfy with good pillows

Take long time waiting for elevator. Housekeeping will not pick up garbage outside the room. Hotel guests is required to take garbage to the lobby. It is very noise outside the hotel and they need double window glass.

We went to the Hyatt Place NY Midtown South just as they were re-opening after COVID. Kudos to the teams for good efforts under challenging circumstances. At the time, due to the limited staff available, rooms were only cleaned upon checkout (i.e. not daily) and only some floors were open. Breakfast was revised to be packaged goods (e.g. wrapped fruit, containers of milk/juice, packages of cereal), and some baked goods. Given the incredibly difficult challenges of the time, I think they did well.

I had a six day stay at The Hyatt Midtown and I’m giving it a great review. I asked for a high floor when I arrived and I was given room# 1703. I have enclosed a photo of the room and you can see a building outside. That building is actually The Empire State Building. If you go to the window and look up you can see it in its entirety. Each night the color of the lights change and it makes it so beautiful to see.
The hotel was clean, housekeeping came every day to just fresh up the room for example replenish toilet paper, tissues and clean towels. They had a great breakfast in the morning. Hot breakfast with a wide variety of foods. I chose the oatmeal every day and I put honey and dried raspberries on top. They of course had other breakfast food but this was my favorite.
On the 26th floor they have an open area where they have tables and chairs. You are outside and two nights I took my takeout dinner up there and dined with a million dollar view. It was awesome.
The location of The Hyatt was close to everything. I walked to The Edge attraction (see photos) and Macy’s is two blocks away. Within two blocks you will find the subway and bus stops that can take you anywhere you wish to go. I met two well behaved dogs in the lobby so they accept pets too. Lastly during this COVID time I witnessed front desk guys and gals wiping down common areas. It makes you feel a little bit safer, for sure. For all these reasons and more I would stay here again.

On arriving at the hotel I found the reception to be nice and clean, the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble if you need their help with anything.
The rooms could be better, it was clean however I have overly high standards so I did find some hairs in the bathroom/bed linen, the carpets were very dated and have seen better days, this bothered me as it felt slightly unhygienic.
The breakfast was amazing, we especially enjoyed the crispy bacon and waffles. There wasn’t particularly a great choice at brekkie, bacon, waffles or pancakes, the fruit looked good but I didn’t try it. However the coffee bar was great with a good selection of coffees and teas.
The only downside was how busy the breakfast area was and I was quite disgusted at some nationalities; the greed, taking ridiculous amounts of food and also their lack of respect for the hotel staff and not clearing away after themselves, it’s the first time I have ever felt like a reserved Brit abroad - I’ve realised myself and my boyfriend definitely are!
Overall a nice stay, although I’m not sure I would stay here again.

great location. 1 min walk from Macy's. polite and helpful staff.
The room was big enough, with a double bed and couch. flat screen tv, and fast enough WiFi.
breakfast was good and included mainly of fruits, eggs, breads and cheese.
My room was clear, the air condition worked well and I had no background noise from the street (level 11).
Great hotel for good price.

We were there four days and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s very convenient to everything around Manhattan. The building and rooms are dated and our room was not cleaned well or in guest-ready working order. Things are different these days, but I would have expected a spotless room when we arrived. Also, I requested room service and did not receive it. If they don’t clean the rooms, guests should easily have access to additional trash bags and a convenient place to dispose of trash on the floor.

I'm sorry that you experienced an issue with housekeeping, Unfortunately all housekeeping service have been suspended until further notice due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, but we do have additional trash bags at the font desk upon request. I will definitely shared your notes with the housekeeping department. I hope these does not deter you from staying with us in the near future.

We booked this hotel at the time because we wanted a decent size room and we wanted to be in a convenient location. This hotel ticked all the boxes and I'd definitely stay there again when going to New York! The room was a great size and had a couch too, and the location was great - close to several subway stops, shops and restaurants! Staff were nice too, and you have a nice view of the Empire State Building from the terrace on the top floor.

I wouldn't rely on the free breakfast though. We didn't use this once during our stay because the queues were crazy and there was nowhere to sit, and the elevators were too busy to take the food somewhere else. Not a very relaxing experience - but I guess it's free. I wish they would restrict access to the breakfast area a bit, or maybe have a separate area where people can take away things. We always went out for breakfast, there are a lot of options within a short walk of the hotel.
