definitely a spot for couples/solos; cabins are cozy yet spacious enough to be comfortable. we were pleasantly surprised with the towel warmers, soothing shower from monsoon shower head, and cleanliness of the overall room.

I stayed here for one night with my partner. Upon arrival at 12:30pm lunch time, we were told check in wasn’t till 3pm and I said that’s fine we were happy to go off for a coffee & walk to waste time. The lady on the front desk said if our room was ready now I would be able to check in for no extra fee. She then went ahead and assured us our room was ready. Told me they were going to charge me the standard $30 USD incidental fees which would be refunded. She took my card and processed this payment. Since receiving my statement and being in touch wirh YOTEL. She in face charges me $55.44 USD for ‘early check in’ without my acknowledgement. I have been dealing with YOTEL over booking.com and not getting anywhere. They are refusing to return my money they took without me approval. I am appalled and angry at them. It was already a pricy one night away as a treat for my other half. And they not seem to think it’s okay to take more money off me. Not impressed.

This was a stay I booked through Priceline using affirm - however, when checking in, the process is automated: the kiosks demanded my credit card information & I’ve been double charged. They also charged me again on the 8th, with no reason listed. I don’t smoke, I left the hotel clean, no damage was done. No one will call me back. I’ve been calling for the last four days and keep being passed to “Mission Control” who never answers the phone! I’ve called over ten times. The final thing to report? A woman in the room directly before ours was apparently having herself an emotional night. All night, people were banging on her door - it started with her boyfriend hollering to be let in, then security came up, and then police came up, and then police and security and the boyfriend pounded and hollered at her door. This all eventually erupted into a screaming match between the woman (Carla) and the rest of the people. What an absolute shame. If you’re a manager, ask either Natasha or Claudia to enlighten you and give me a call back.

we needed to have daily hot water in our room. It’s worth noting if you require hot water, yotel do not provide a kettle in the room. The solution was to purchase a cup of hot water from the vending machine in reception -We bought a kettle - problem solved. CHECK OUT. - We planned to check out at the standard 11am time and spend the day in NY before being picked up at 6pm at the hotel to travel to JFK. We asked reception if they had some where to keep our cases. They said no because their automated robot used to store the cases wasn’t working and said we would need to make our own storage arrangements with storage companies in the city at our own expense. We were not informed of this via email or reception prior to this. They did offer us a late check out but only for 2 hours. We asked for 4 hours which they agreed too for $55 so we could store our bags. This may not be a issue for some but may be worth being aware of prior to booking for others. There were other guests checking out who said had they known they would have booked an alternative hotel. With a plethora of hotels in the world we will be able to avoid Yotel in future.

I'm not sure where I first learned about YOTEL, but I've been curious about it for some time. I decided to stop in the city for an overnight stay during a drive down the east coast. I booked my room via a third-party app (Hotel Tonight). I had mixed feelings about my stay - everything could've been perfect, but it was not quite right. Let's start with parking. I parked at the public garage attached to the building. It was a pretty painless valet experience except for the fact that the elevator from the garage up to the hotel was out of service on the night of my arrival. This wasn't an issue for me, but for someone who couldn't carry their own bags, this would've been a serious problem. This was not Yotel's fault (I assume MPG, which runs the garage, is responsible for maintenance of the the elevator) but this was not a great start to the night. I walked up the ramp, around the corner, and into the lobby. YOBOT was out of service, too (which I knew, from the website). I tried to check in at one of the handy kiosks, but it was running very slowly and crashed. A second kiosk had the same problem. Hmmmmm... so much for a high tech experience. The security guard at the desk waved me up to level 4 (Mission Control), where I had a pretty standard check-in experience at the front desk. I had already paid for my room, but handed over my debit card for an additional $70: a $30 hold (which would be refunded on checkout) and a $40 fee of some kind (which would not be). Incidentally this new $40 fee was exactly enough to negate the savings from purchasing my room via a third-party app. My Premium Queen cabin was on the tenth floor, which is high enough for a decent view. The room was small, and rather spartan, but the use of space is very clever. There are only a couple small drawers (I think the designers assumed - correctly - that most guests will live out of their suitcases anyway). There is no fridge. The bed (which can electronically fold into a lounging couch) was incredibly soft. Across from the bed, there is a small television. A sticker behind the bed indicated that the To-Go menu could be accessed on channel 71. This was.. not true. Channel 71 corresponded to the "JFK Airport Status" channel (supposedly), but only displayed a black screen. Channel *69* was the YOTEL channel, and I thought I might be able to place an order there .... nope. It briefly showed a hilariously choppy video of a man doing yoga before it also cut to black. Ultimately I was never able to access the to-go menu via the TV, and in fact I wasn't able to get a signal on any of the channels. (I did run downstairs to order food from the Green Fig. I had a flatbread pizza. It was delicious.) The TV did include an HDMI cable. This is actually great - more hotels should offer this since it's often the easiest way to get your streaming media onto a larger screen. But the HDMI cable was inexplicably short. There was literally no way I could stably position my laptop while plugged into the HDMI cable, and it's not clear to me what type of device would've worked here. Protip to YOTEL ... get a longer cable! The shower was lovely, even though one of the fixtures was coming loose from the wall. It has holders for their own shampoo/conditioner/body wash, but there's nowhere to set things. If you bring your own shampoo/conditioner just be prepared to set it on the floor. So: what to say about YOTEL NYC? Various places online (google in particular) list it as a high-tech 4-star hotel. This was not a 4-star experience. It was a 2-star experience in a 4-star location with a 4-star cost. Quite a lot of the "tech" (the kiosks, yobot, the TV) simply did not work. I wouldn't recommend it without caveats. If I were to stay at this hotel again, I would avoid a peak travel season, I would request the (cheaper) Solo room, and would plan to spend most of my time outside of it. It is New York, after all.
