So technically this is a 3.5 star hotel. It’s not a Four Seasons or a Waldorf hotel. But I’m giving this place five stars. First of all, the staff is fun, kind, and accommodating. I’ve stayed here three times now, and checking in today, they knew my name as soon as I walked in the door. I work nights when I’m in NYC, and they’ve always accommodated me with a quiet room off the main hall. This time they gave me a corner room with huge windows and tons of light (note that courtyard rooms are quieter). The rooms aren’t fancy, but they are clean and have good heating and air, and the beds are pretty comfy. There aren’t any drawers for clothing, but the modern closet space is plenty for me. Housekeeping is always nice and thorough. They have a neat lobby with artwork from local artists and modern music playing. There is normally a bar and breakfast served, but not right now during COVID 19. It’s also in the vibrant Harlem neighborhood and is about half a mile from a subway train that can get you anywhere. This was booked for business, but I would stay here on personal stays too. Again, kudos to the staff—so warm and welcoming, better than so many luxury hotels in which I’ve stayed!

This is a late review. I stayed here for only one night in August, 2019, on the front-end of a long European trip, and forgot to leave a review.

My king bed room was surprisingly large; not only by New York standards, but by any standard. It was clean and very comfortable. The view was mediocre, but I didn't care. I wasn't staying there for the view. The bathroom was stocked with all the necessary items, there was a coffee maker with supplies, and a small fridge. TV and wifi worked well. The front desk staff were the only people I had any interaction with, but they were very nice and efficient. I would stay here again. If there is anything I didn't like it's the shower with no door, which seems to be getting more popular. I ended up with a lot of water on the floor outside of the shower.

The Aloft Harlem is a great trendy boutique hotel. The staff was awesome- extremely helpful, professional, and personable. The front desk staff offered great suggestions for dining, entertainment, and even tips on how to navigate the city. My daughter will be attending Columbia University Teachers College in the fall, so we wanted a location within walking distance to the university. The walk to campus is about 12 minutes. The hotel is very clean and we would not hesitate to stay again!

Failed experience at A Loft hotel in Harlem. Came here to quarantine with my daughter for 4 days before her 2nd test before moving into her school dorm. Upon arrival, front desk reception staff either not wearing a mask or were wearing it below their nose for entire duration of our interaction with them. This behavior was observed every time I went down to the lobby to retrieve food delivery. Guest room 302 was not well cleaned. Carpet had crumbs or dirt on it, remote control was not in plastic bag signaling it has been disinfected (as I have seen at other hotels I have stayed at during the pandemic). On 1st day, housekeeping knocked on the door to clean room. I thought this wasn’t being done during the stay (per other hotels I have stayed in). Called guest services to suspend any room cleaning (since we are quarantining in room) only to have housekeeping knock again on day 3. Guests routinely not wearing masks in elevators, hallways, or lobby. Staff did not enforce. Although there are signs that say (only 2 in elevator and face coverings required) observed staff not correcting any guest who was non-compliant. Even observed staff member interacting in close range (within 1-2 feet) with guest and he was not wearing a mask, but guest was. This went on for over 5 minutes. The room had no windows to open (so no fresh air during quarantine). The HVAC system was only working if I wanted to turn on the heat (which made the room unbearable). When I tried to use the fan to circulate the air or turn on the air-conditioning to cool it down (we arrived and it was 77 degrees in the room) the fan pushed out warm air only and guest services said the air conditioning doesn’t work. There was nothing they could do, basically tough – sit in a stuffy overly heated room. Sliding door between toilet / shower space and vanity didn’t actually seal the space so if anyone was in the vanity space, they had a view into the toilet area. Tile used in bathroom area was outdoor brick tile that looked dirty. Room was not stocked with a compliment of towels. Missing wash cloths. Pictures on website are touched up and must be the very best rooms on the tallest floor. Room had one window, so it was dark. Countertop and leather round sitting stool both chipped with flaking bits of countertop and fake leather peeling off. I tried to locate the name and contact information of the hotel manager. What was posted on line was incorrect. I sent a complaint to the Marriott home site the evening I arrived. 3 days later, no response other than an auto generated complaint ID #.

Dear Traveler Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns during your recent stay. It’s nice to hear good things and just as important to see where we need to improve. Behind the scene you may be surprised to learn that we have a tremendous amount of Covid protocols and staff training in place. Although we have signs on entrances and elevators about mask mandates we struggle with a few guests not wearing masks. Fortunately, we have free masks available and hand out them out to guests who forget to wear them. In addition, the lobby, elevator and public spaces are sanitized around the clock. All guest rooms touchpoints are sanitized after each check out. We don’t wrap remotes after their sanitized. I apologize for the delay in getting back to you the best way to solve issues is always to contact the manager on duty for an immediate response. Once again, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate you choosing to stay with us during these unusual times Regards, JDean General Manager

I was very leery about booking this location because of some of the reviews. I’m also smart enough to know that some people have unreal expectations when traveling and staying in shared spaces.

With that being said I’m happy I chose this place primarily because of its location being near my mom in Harlem who I was visiting. We were two women traveling alone so I was not comfortable with an Airbnb for security primarily. I felt very safe here and had zero issues.
The staff was always courteous and professional and very helpful.

Our room was directly across from the elevator and we only heard it if the TV was off.

Our room was very clean and housekeeping staff was very accommodating with extra towels. We did not eat anything but there is food available for sale. We used Uber eats delivery and ate at many different places. There are also restaurants up and down 125th street only 2 blocks away. Both chain and local cuisine available. There is a small refrigerator in the room and a microwave in the lobby for use. Free Ice is also provided in the lobby.

I’m so happy I booked here it was only a 15 minute walk to my mom and 4 minutes in an Uber. Lord Uber truly blessed us this trip only $8 each trip to moms was very affordable and never waited more than 3 minutes for a ride.

Took us to all the attractions we wanted to see as well as shopping. A great trip and I’ll definitely be booking here again real soon.

Excellent and friendly staff! The room was the perfect size, stylish, clean, and well-appointed. Our dog was treated like a guest. The shower had large dispensers for shower gel and shampoo which I hadn't seen before. Greatly appreciated by a woman with long hair! It's our go to place to stay now in NYC.

I stayed here recently while in town, and while I was initially very cautious about staying in a hotel during the pandemic, the hotel had a very detailed COVID plan on their website, so we decided to give them a try. In general, the ALOFT chain is very good - I've stayed in their locations in other cities - so I was assured by their overall quality of service. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant, and they checked us in with no problems. The lobby was designed in the modern style, with exposed piping and hip furniture, but it added to the overall style. The rooms were similarly designed and very comfortable, with great beds and spacious bathrooms. This hotel is pretty close to a lot of things in the area, such as subway lines, Central Park, Columbia University, and plenty of restaurants. Nothing in NYC is absolutely quiet, but the rooms do a pretty good job of providing a break from the activities on the street. I did see people walking around in the lobby without masks, and staff were quick to ask guests to put their masks back on.

Stayed here the night before my dad's funeral. It seems like most if not all Aloft hotels are designed the same way. They have you fill out a health form upon check-in then give you the keys to your room. The patrons do not abide by their policy of 2 people per elevator, not sure if there's any way to really enforce it. The hotel was pretty quiet which is always appreciated. I love that they offer Netflix and I think they have a few other options. There were many food restaurants, deli's, a CVS and a few other things within walking distance. That always makes for better tv. Check-out is as easy as dropping the keys off in this little box.

1) The staff here is excellent! They are extremely nice, thoughtful, helpful and fun to engage in conversation. Specifically want to acknowledge Ideley, Nasha, Samantha and Annettee! 2) My first room was questionable. Warped shower stall floor tiles, room looked very old and rough around the edges. Carpet appeared dirty and I was afraid to let any of my clothes touch the floor (like when you're taking off pants, etc.). I showed the front desk staff photos of the questionable things in my room and they promptly moved me to a better room on the same floor. Photos are of the first room. Second one was better but I didn't take photos :-(
Given that this is part of the Marriott/W chain, I was surprised at the accommodations, even if they are in their budget line. Again, the second room was defintiely closer to what I expected.

It was a nice stay for a girl's getaway at the Aloft. We were able to check in hours earlier due to arriving earlier, which was appreciated thanks to the nice gentleman and young lady (Samantha) at the front desk. While waiting for our room, I was disappointed there weren't any pool sticks to play billiards on the table that I was excited to use. I have stayed at the Aloft Hanover prior to my visit to Aloft Harlem, therefore I was familiar with the amenities. The one change needed for this property is the luggage carts. They are horrible! One wheel on the front of the cart that gets stuck and has to be manually turned is unacceptable. Please invest in a different style of luggage carts. Please and thank you.
