Hyatt Place New York City / Times Square offers a mix of praise and criticism from guests. Its strengths lie in the friendly staff and a prime location near major attractions, which many travelers find convenient. However, some guests have called out the small room sizes and slow elevator service. While the hotel's cleanliness and modern amenities receive positive comments, the reception experience and room space, particularly for groups, can be inconsistent. Travelers appreciate the breakfast variety but note crowding and disorganization. Despite mixed reviews on value, the efficient luggage storage is a plus.

I read with some concern the reviews of this hotel after it opened. Fortunately, it seems a lot of these issues have been solved.

The staff we encountered during our stay were friendly and helpful. The elevators were all working perfectly. We had a room on the 18th floor and I don't think we ever waited more than a minute for one. However, it seems staff including housekeeping also use these elevators, so once we had to share one with a janitor with a large dirty cleaning bucket full of dirty wataer that smelt of cleaning chemicals. My wife is quite sensitive to smells like this due to asthma and it nearly triggered an attack.

Breakfast was always too busy so we never bothered with it, preferring to go out to a diner instead, even though it was free.

The room itself was small as expected. With the sofa bed extended there was no room at all really, but we made do with it. There is no storage anywhere apart from a tiny closet. No drawers in which to put clothes. Luckily we had used packing cubes for our clothes, so we just balanced them all on tables or on the single shelf above the coffee machine. It was a definitle squeeze for 3. For 2 where a sofa bed is not needed it would be fine.

Housekeeping came daily, but didn't restock the coffee. When we called down to ask for some more we were told someone would bring it right up, but it never came.

The fire alarm went off a couple of times, as we were trying to get to sleep. The first time we were getting up and getting dressed when it turned off again, followed by an announcment that it was a false alarm. It then went off a further couple of times over the next few days but we ignored it. Luckily there wasn't a real fire... the boy who cried wolf comes to mind.

Bathroom is very small and the entrance is kind of an awkward position at the end of the bed - not much privacy when doing your business...

Location is good - close to many things like Times Square, Empire State, Hudson Yards etc.

Overall this is not the best hotel I have stayed at in NYC. I would have given it 4 stars though if not for the issues above, as the price was very good - significantly less than other hotels in the area for my dates. I would stay again if the prices were cheaper like they were this time, but would prefer to stay elsewhere with a bit more space if I could get something else for similar money.

This is a relatively new hotel (opened November 2019) in a convenient location, not far from Times Square and the theater district - within about a 10-15 min walking distance.

If you've stayed at other Hyatt Place properties in other parts of the country, this is true to the brand, but because it is NYC, the rooms are on the smaller side but manageable. Although for more than 2 people it could get tight, depending on your bed choice. However, most people come to NYC to be out and about- and not spend too much time in the room. When viewed from that perspective, this is a great choice and location.

The breakfast is really good, lots of vegetarian options and ample seating, although we got there early, so if the hotel is full it could potentially get busy. The lobby is very spacious, lots of sitting areas and staff is friendly. For our one night, we had a great stay.

However, If you are loyal to the Hyatt brand, there are other choices in the Times Square area, and even another Hyatt Place nearby. Best advice would be check the rates (and room type) for the days of your stay and let that be be the deciding factor.

Friendly, hospitable and respectful staff.
Location is perfect. Walking distance to Timesquare.
Room is just enough to sleep comfortably. I could use for storage space for our 5 days worth of clothes/wardrobes. Bathroom is tight but functional. I feel like it is only twice the size of an Airplane restroom. Breakfast is fair. I an concerned with infection control/prevention of spread of communicable disease at the coffee station during breakfast. Creamers, cups and sugars are accessible for all to touch. I would recommend either have it individually packed and handed to costumers or require each costumers to use hand sanitizers and wear gloves prior to using the coffee station.

How1eC, Thank you so much for taking the time to share about your stay. We are glad you enjoyed your time with us. As you have mentioned our rooms are on the smaller side compared to other rooms outside of NYC. Thank you for your comments about the coffee station. Rest assured we are sanitizing the coffee area throughout the service period and have transitioned fully to individual servings of all items in an effort to cut down on possible spread. The hotel has obtained a GBAC STAR facility rating for cleanliness and is in compliance with all state and local mandates. Thank you again and we will continue to work to improve our service and experience for the guests. We hope to serve you again soon.

We stayed here in January and couldn’t fault anything. The hotel was very clean and rooms were larger than we’ve stayed in previously in New York. Check in was quick and the two guys Isaac and Joshua were very helpful and couldn’t have been more helpful. We had rooms on the 22nd floor, our daughter stayed in room 2205 and had great views of the city. There was an iron and ironing board in the rooms along with a free safe. Tea and coffee but no milk unfortunately but there was a fridge. Toiletries in the bathroom and a good sized shower. Very large bed with comfy pillows and a small settee and coffee table and a large tv. The guys on reception gave us a map of the city and advised us where the nearest subway was. Every time we left or arrived back at the hotel the staff were all so friendly and this really made our stay as often you’re met with staff who are not interested. The hotel sorted us a transfer back to JFK airport for $75 inclusive of tolls and tips and the guy who picked us up was really great even took us on a detour so our daughter could go to the loo! We didn’t eat breakfast here but it was $15 each. Location wise it wasn’t as close to Times Square as we thought but it was only about a 10 minute walk and we felt safe in the area even walking at night.
Definitely recommend this hotel and we would definitely stay here again when we visit New York which is an absolutely amazing city.

I booked through Agoda, and Hyatt Place overcharged me and wouldn't issue refund for the overcharged amount. I stayed here for ten nights over Xmas, location is great and bed is comfy and rooms are quiet from traffic. Near bus station and subway and close to many restaurants and only ten minutes walk to times square and Macys. Over my ten night stay, 3 seperate days the rooms weren't cleaned at all and on the some of the other days housekeeping turned up at 6pm to clean when we were back in our room from being out all day. The corridors are very small and they had shelving units with their linen so hard to get past with suitcases but least you can help yourself to clean towels when housekeeping don't clean your room! I would of thought blocking the hall with massive shelving units would be against fire regulations. Rooms are new so appear clean but housekeeping didn't vacuum our room for quite a few days and you could see the dirt, crumbs etc on the floor. Also the days they did "clean" they didn't replenish toilet roll at all so had to ring downstairs, they said they would send some up and never did. Also air conditioning is very loud so take ear plugs. Even with the Air Con turned off its very loud and rattles. The rooms and bathroom are very small. This hotel could be could good but defiantly not upto Hyatt standard. Sorry, but if housekeeping keep up that basic level of cleaning it won't stay new for very long. It will look old and dirty very soon.

The hotel is a brand-new hotel which opened in December 2019 So understandably the hotel is still experiencing some teething problems. We arrived for a four night stay and check-in was seamless. Night one was seamless. One day to the room was cleaned by the cleaners and the bedding was changed however this was the only time the bedding was changed and condiments within the room were filled up. On day three I had to clean the bathroom myself as the cleaners had not cleaned it during the day.so understandably the hotel is still experiencing some teething problems. On day three I had to clean the bathroom myself as the cleaners have not cleaned it during the day. Very disappointing effort by the cleaners. Breakfast is also very disappointing and the hotel does not have a liquor license (my understanding??) Sir offer free drinks tokens for across the road. I did get 5000 reward points gifted to me for my inconvenience, however a Partial refund for the inconvenience would have been more valued. I personally would avoid until the hotel sorts it self out.

The Hyatt Place Times Square is a new property, so you might expect a lot of rough edges. Not true (though there are a few small design issues I'll mention later. We had a great experience there thanks to the excellent people staffing this hotel.
I wish I had made notes of everyone's name. I do recall Giovanni at check-in who was so very pleasant and helpful.
A lavish buffet is breakfast included. The people staffing it set our minds at ease regarding my husband's severe food allergy. Much appreciated!
The rooms are small but 100% clean. However. . .those design issues:
No toilet paper roller. Paper was loose on a shelf below the sink. Nowhere to hang towels for reuse.
About room size: One *very* small closet mostly occupied by the ironing board. No drawers for storage. We had to live out of our suitcases. There was a sleeper sofa, but it was positioned parallel to the long side of the bed (no room to unfold it) and at right angles to the television (useless for watching tv).The hotel would do better to remove it and use the vacated space for a small chest of drawers.
Bathroom issues could be easily solved by installing a hook on the back of the door for used towels you want to use again. There *is* room to install a toilet paper dispenser.
The points about room design in no way detract from the great stay we enjoyed here, with so much of the credit going to the hotel staff. Great location, too!
We hope to return soon.

Pay no attention to the early reviews of this hotel....This hotel has it together on all levels!

Yes, it's almost brand new...but more importantly, I was most impressed with the genuine customer service provided by all employees we encountered. I don't know the training they go thru, but I wish every service professional would go thru the same. From the front desk workers, to the breakfast staff, to the housekeepers, it really is a "let us know if you need anything at all" mentality. Super friendly, knowledgeable and happy. Giovanni and Darius are the two that stood out to me, as they were excellent to talk to and very professional. Even the breakfast attendant and housekeepers seemed super happy.

The bathrooms need more shelving and the rooms are a bit small for more than 2 people (especially) with luggage. The rooms are clean, the beds (and pullout couch) are comfortable. Shower has great water pressure. Breakfast staff was working hard, but selection was really, really good and items were refilled promptly. Free wifi is a plus and the business center lets you print..for free!

Location is great, close enough to the tourist areas of Times Square, but still far enough away where it's a bit quieter. Plenty of places to eat within a 3 block radius of the hotel. Hotel is waiting on bar/alcohol license, but plenty of bars near the hotel, as well. Plenty of seating in the lobby or breakfast area. They even have a nice outdoor seating area if the weather is nice.

Stay here. You won't regret it.

The Hyatt Place was perfect for our over night family get away. Two rooms were affordable with teens in an adjoining room. The hotel room was clean, new and well appointed. The rates were very reasonable and much cab fare was saved thanks to the central hotel location. In a short distance you can easily walk to Time Square, Radio City, the High Line and Hudson Yards locations just to name a few. The morning breakfast was also great. Good coffee always kicks off the day right. The staff was knowledgeable of the area and friendly.

I am surprised someone had such an experience in this hotel. I had absolutely pleasant stay for couple of nights in this hotel in July last. In fact they are so busy they hardly have time to get after someone specifically and vindictively unless, of course, something turns extremely sour at the hit of the moment we all go through once in a while. We all should be able to calm down quickly and try to see each other's situation being in the other person's position. The front desk personnel change in shifts and one odd person may be an exception who, fortunately, I did not meet him or her.
