Our two grown up sons joined us for Christmas in the Penthouse Suite at 710 St Nicholas Avenue and we had a fantasic time. The apartment was just right, welcoming, stylish and spacious, the kitchen was well equipped - one of my sons found a good local butcher and the supermarket up the road was always well stocked. We cooked a brilliant Christmas dinner which we ate around th dining table - perfect, it felt like home.

In December 2014, our family of four, including two teenagers, travelled to New York City and stayed in these amazing apartments. We spent four nights in #4 and seven nights in #3 and both apartments were excellent. Harlem is such a cool place to stay, and Michael gave us lots of information about the neighbourhood. A couple of times we even got lost and rang him - he was always happy to help, and gave us great recommendations. The subway is just downstairs and is super easy to use, even when jetlagged after a long flight from Australia. The apartments are so much better value than a hotel room, with everything you need. Can't wait to come back!

We are glad that you were able to sample two apartments. This is one of the many ways we are different from a cookie cutter hotel. Each of the suites has a completely different feel, but all are equally lovely (at least we think so!) MC

If you're wondering whether 710 Guest Suites are really as good as the reviews here on TripAdvisor - in our experience, most definitely!!

Our family of 4 stayed in Apartment 4 for 10 nights over Christmas 2013 and found this a great 'home away from home' in Manhattan. The apartment itself is as wonderful as it appears in the photos, and we loved the decor and generous space and light. It was also perfect to have a fully functional kitchen and washer/dryer.

710 Guest Suites are located in a lovely area of Harlem - we found people very friendly and never felt unsafe. We also found it a great respite from the craziness of mid town at the end of a long day. As many other reviews mention, the subway is just outside the front door and has you at Columbus Circle in 10 mins on the express line. There are also supermarkets, pharmacies and cafes within easy walk from the apartment.

However, as many others have also mentioned, it is Michael that truly makes this place special. He is so passionate about what he does and the surrounding area, and filled with great tips/advice without overwhelming or crowding you. A special mention also to Tracey, Joy and Sammi, who were also wonderful to deal with.

I cannot recommend 710 Guest Suites more highly - we would definitely stay here again if we are lucky enough to return to NYC and Harlem.

My wife, 2 teenage daughters and myself stayed in the Duplex Suite for a week towards the end of August. As everyone else has said, Michael was the perfect host and greeted us as we pulled up in our taxi. He is a charming and amusing guy, with a real passion for the area and his beautiful property. He is an artist with a flair for interior design which is apparent the moment you set foot in 710. It has been thoughtfully and beautifully decorated, but at the same time is comfortable to stay in. The living area is large, with a big TV and access to a small balcony that has a table, 2 chairs and a bbq. There is a sitting room area which has 2 large sofas. The kitchen is more than adequate with everything in it you could need - not that we ever used it; there's too many good takeaways and places to eat. The master bedroom is beautiful with a huge king size bed and a chaise loungue, with bathroom that has double basins and the biggest, deepest bath I've ever seen. Our daughters' bedroom was equally nice - until they opened their suitcases! Some people have mentioned noise from the rooms above. I did very occasionally hear people walking above us, but it never kept me awake and wasn't as noisy as some hotels I've stayed in. We were aware we had people below us and took our shoes off when we got in and tried to be quiet when we walked around.

The location is fine; it's about a 1 minute walk to the subway and you can get right down to Columbus Circle in about 12 minutes on the Express subway. Michael gave us a subway map which helped us find our way around. The local subway trains (they're all caught at the same station) take a bit longer as they stop at all the other stations on the way downtown. The surrounding area is lively and doesn't feel threatening, even when we walked back 20 blocks from the Harlem Apollo on our first night. There are families walking around the area, even late at night.Michael is very proud of the area and suggested places to eat; Maison Harlem was fantastic (it's a couple of subway stops away) and the Grange was really good as well and that's only about 10 minutes walk away. The Chipped Cup was also good for breakfast and that's about a 15 minute walk. Michael is full of suggestions (the Brooklyn Flea Market being a good one) and was only ever a text message away.

Because the area is lively there is a bit of noise at night, but you're in NYC so you've go to expect that. There is a supermarket about 10 minutes walk away, a Starbucks (if you must) and a Duane Reade drug store that also sells a range of food. There is also a liquor store about 3 doors down that sells a good range of wine & a bank on the corner with cash machines.

When you compare 710 Suites with the cost of some NYC hotel rooms it is a real bargain. The best thing about the place though is Michael, he added so much to our holiday. If I ever go back to New York this is the only place I would stay.

This was our first time to New York and after a very long flight from Australia Michael greeted us on the first night of our arrival and made us all feel very welcome. We were two families of 4 travelling together with teenagers. We stayed in suite 3 and 4 and there was plenty of room for everyone. The apartments are very comfortable and have everything you would need.Having a washing machine and dryer was fantastic. The kitchen is great we cooked a few times and with the supermarket just around the corner found everything we needed.Every morning my husband would walk to Starbucks for coffee less than a 5 minute walk from the apartment. The subway is on the corner and we had a 7 day pass and this was the best way to get around with a group of 8.The location is perfect with so many conveniences close by and we all felt very safe walking around at night. We were able to purchase wine from Australia at a store only 2 doors from our apartment very convenient after a long day out sight seeing.
Michael is very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed and was always available for tips on what to see and do. We will definitely stay here again the next time we come to New York.

The duplex AT 710 St Nicholas Avenue, Harlem was our home for the first week of October 2015. The duplex was a very comfortable home for oiur New York vacation. We stayed for 1 week after spending 2 nights in the Sofitel. We came from Australia and a cousin joined us from Scotland. Beautifully clean, superbly located near the supermarket and subway and met by the owner Michael. Michael has a listb of places to visit, shop and eat. On his advice we went o mass at the Convent Avenue Baptist Church. This was a wonderful service - welcoming and warm with glorious song. I wouldnt stay anywhere else in New York.

We are a family of four from the UK, with kids aged 14 & 11. Booked on the strength of the glowing reviews on TripAdvisor I must admit I was still a little concerned that the apartment might be a little too “uptown” or that Harlem might be a rather dodgy neighbourhood. I needn’t have worried on either count. First of all, what’s not obvious from some of the reviews is how easy and quick it is to get the (very safe) subway down to central/downtown Manhattan – the subway is 2 minutes from the apartment and it’s only 2 or 3 stops & less than 15 minutes to get to mid-town. The neighbourhood is safe and actually very interesting and historic – the owner Michael (who as everyone else has already reported is incredibly helpful and welcoming) suggests a little walking tour of the locality which is well worth it. The apartment itself was just superb – roomy, well-stocked, tastefully decorated, large flat screen TV (big plus with the kids), Wifi (even bigger plus) – it was so lovely to have a proper “home” for the family to return to and crash out after a day’s sightseeing around NYC. Oh, and you can walk to the Yankees stadium from here too. Thanks Michael for a making our trip so fantastic - I will be recommending 710 Guest Suites to everyone I know!

Thank you tripadvisor for telling me about this place! This was our third trip to NYC and had previously stayed in hotels with very tiny rooms, so I was a little worried about finding somewhere suitable now we were travelling with our 8 month old that didn't cost the earth. This place was perfect!

We spent 9 nights in the garden apartment and we were so impressed. It is really huge, by any standards, but in Manhattan it's simply amazing! There is a full kitchen, good sized bathroom with bath, seperate bedroom and large outdoor courtyard. There is a laundry downstairs which is shared with just one other apartment. The apartment was very stylishly decorated. Michael the owner was fabulous, very welcoming and full of suggestions of things to do and places to go.

We borrowed (at no cost) a nice portacot and high chair. It was so great having the space, kitchen, laundry and bath with a baby.

The subway is a couple of doors down and an express train will get you to midtown in about 12mins. There's a supermarket, pharmacy, Starbucks and some take-away places very nearby. A number of restaurants deliver to the apartment (also handy with bub!).

Like others I was initially nervous about Harlem, but we found it a safe and friendly neighborhood with lots of places to explore. We did a food walking tour on our first day and walked all over which made us feel very comfortable there.

We would highly recommend this place to anyone and hope to return ourselves one day.

When planning our New York trip I was put off by hotel rates, so I checked for alternatives in the area. I was impressed by the uniformly strong reviews of 710, but concerned that there were so few reviews - could it be that the owner had a few friends write the glowing comments? We took a chance, and I am happy that we did. We stayed in the Garden Suite and were pleased in every way. It lived up to all of the positive reviews. It was clean, well furnished, nicely decorated and fully equipped. Since we ate out for most meals we didn't really make good use of the kitchen, but it had everything necessary to prepare most any dish. We liked staying in Harlem, and the subway was less than half block away. Our ride into mid-town was about 15 minutes and we probably never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a train. The apartment is located at the rear of the building, away from traffic noise. While we could hear the subway, it was just a dull background roar that did not disturb us or keep us awake. After a long day of sight-seeing it was nice to come back to a spacious apartment and sit in the garden with a glass of wine. A week in a cramped hotel room would not have been the same. The owner, Michael, met us on arrival and provided subway maps, a map of a neighborhood walking tour that was a nice orientation to the area, lists of restaurants (and we tried 4 or 5 of them - all were very good), and good advice on things to do and see in the city. Our New York visit was wonderful, thanks greatly to 710 and Michael. We will definitely stay there again when we return.

We had a 1 month vacation in the garden apartment. The owner and host Michael Cooper could not have made us feel more at home in his beautifully decorated and comfortable garden apartment. We even invited 2 guests for a long weekend and Michael brought an air mattress, sheets and towels to accommodate them, but the daybed was sufficient. Washer and dryer in basement were especially appreciated. The neighborhood was historic, safe, wonderful and location could not be beat for bus and subway options, groceries, coffee shops, restaurants, etc.

Hi--I don't know anything about this--we stayed there last summer and had a great experience, but never met Michael in person. I have a non-VRBO email address for him but it seems I can't send it to you through Trip Advisor--any suggestions?

We flew into JFK and took a cab, which was like half an hour-40 minutes; it would be about 1.5 hours by public transport from JFK I think. Taxis are flat rate from the airport, think it was $52 plus tip.
