Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

JUST THE PHONE CALL WITH ALYSSE AT THE FRINT DESK MAKES ME FEEL WELCOME BEFORE I EVEN GET THERE. That’s all. Looooove the crew at this Hotel. Love the area too. I’m from NY and stay here every time I go from CA. Other than the cigarette smokers outside the front door all the time, it’s excellent. And there’s nothing better than throwing some hoops on the basketball court next to the bar inside! Thank u, Alysse!!!

Unless you’re a 20 year old, I don’t recommend staying here. Rooms are so small, even by NYC standards. No space to put anything; literally not a drawer for a single item of clothes. Staff is nice and lounge is fine. But the rooms are not comfortable in any way. I’m a gold elite member and was “upgraded”. Can’t imagine what a non upgraded room was like.

Objectively this is NOT a 4-star hotel and falls closer to a 3-star (not to be confused with reviews, rather the caliber of the hotel, what’s offered amenity-wise and the service level). Totally miscategorized on Google and TripAdvisor. Simply bc you have sexy interiors with dark colors, neon signs, and a taxidermy bear doesn’t make you 4 stars. Don’t get me wrong, was it barely an OK value cost-wise as we received a killer rate through our company? sure, but that was the only saving grace. Location is actually very great with good restaurants nearby. Tack on the ‘destination’ fee of $25 a day (check in staff did not explain what this fee can be used for) and I would rather spend slightly more for a much more comfortable experience elsewhere. While lots of companies get discounts here this hotel is not a conducive working place. Sure, throw on your noise canceling headphones since it’s loud in the main area and forget about taking meetings in your margarita stained fabric chair. I had to take calls in the bball court! This is an INCREDIBLY bare bones hotel, where you get towels, hand soap, a combo hair+body wash (never a good sign of quality) and conditioner. From traveling around the world, this was the first time I was given plastic cups for our bathroom (how is this 4-stars)? Rooms are TINY for 2 people, folding desk could barely fit a MacBook Pro and some notepads, highly uncomfortable folding chair for working, no closet. Forget about using the room as an office. Hotel room itself was generally clean, with some slight wear and tear. Bed was surprisingly comfortable, pillows not so great. King rooms are RV Kings (ya the ones you buy for a mobile home) they’re 4 in. in width smaller than standard king. Sure, is it cool place to grab drinks a few nights, play skeeball and basketball, ya, but it’s really a club like atmosphere which seems more attractive to those looking to party than to work. Gym is bare bones, there’s no bench for back/chest exercises, no cable system but you do get Peleton and treadmills. Hotel staff are actually more friendly than described in reviews and the way I see it is these poor souls are over worked and over stretched running around trying to mend the shortcomings from Marriott/corporate under investing in this hotel. Example, right after jumping in the shower the fire alarm goes off and NYFD came. Smoke billowing through the small lobby. Turns out oil was spilling everywhere in the elevator engine room — complete negligence and shows how things like routine maintenance inspections are overlooked at this hotel. Hotel seems like a selfie millennial money grab (ironically I’m a millennial) that cuts corners to save money, you have to ask for turn down service, robs of basic amenities like a hot water kettle, no options for q-tips, shower caps, etc and moisturizer and no proper office desk, ignores core principles of hospitality and the focus is on maximizing capitalism and OpEx than comfort and business users.

Had a great experience staying at the Moxy NYC Downtown. Upon my arrival, I was immediately welcomed by team members working the front desk and door. Later utilized the restaurant/lounge to get some work done where they played some of my favorite jams, had entertaining games such as shuffleboard, oversized tic tac toe, skeeball, as well as a basketball court and foosball in a room on the other end. A visit to their gym included several Pelotons, treadmills and free weights. The food was average but they made up for it with excellent team members like Majed (server), Tyra (server) and Laura (hostess) who regularly check up on guests and made their best efforts to make sure their guests were well taken care of and even engaged in conversation. Definitely will revisit in the future and hope to be welcomed and see the outstanding team members Majed, Tyra and Laura that I was able to meet during my quick trip to Manhattan! Anthony (team lead/manager), your team was outstanding and look forward to see you all in the near future!

Great stay at this hotel. I was visiting Pace University with my daughter. We've stayed in several Moxy's by now and, as with all the others, this property is just flat-out cool. Cleverly designed common spaces, modern yet comfy rooms, really nice and capable staff. A couple hours after checking out, I realized I didn't have my sunglasses. The manager Zhan gave me a new room key and welcomed me to go ahead back up to the room to look for them. When I returned to the front desk bc that room key wouldn't work, Zhan started to issue me yet another new key. Then he stopped himself and said he would just take me up himself. I appreciated his consideration. No sunglasses, but an enjoyable conversation about NYC and how good Moxy is as an employer. Zhan the manager was great, the bar/food staff were friendly and greeted us like we were old friends by the second day. We go to NYC from time to time and we'll be for a lot more if my daughter chooses Pace U. We'll definitely be staying at this Moxy again.

This is my second time staying at the Moxy downtown. As a New Yorker enduring the winter here I like to get creative and do a “staycation” in a different area of manhattan and love choosing FiDi/Seaport. The Moxy is by far the best deal if you’re visiting from out of town and want to be steps from every major subway line, near all of the major destinations and have a plethora of wonderful dining options within two blocks. The hotel itself is high on design making NYC standard sized rooms creative and livable. The 3rd floor is massive and fun with a live DJ on the weekends, great bar, Basketball court, air hockey etc etc. great space to have friends come and join. The hotel staff from Justin at check-in to food and bev and crew go above and beyond! All were accommodating and lovely to me and my service dog. If you’re coming to NYC and want the absolute best value while still staying in a chic hotel that’s safe, convenient and views for days forget staying in midtown and come here

DAYUSE = NO USE - This has been an absolute disaster!! A wasted 90 dollar ride into nyc from the airport to get to this hotel who didn’t have my reservation ready!! I booked 10-4 pm as need to leave 4pm and go back to airport! Wasted an expensive taxi ride to get there at 10.45 just for them to say they don’t have a room for my reservation ready, do I wanna wait??? So what is going on!??? 6hr time booking and you want me to wait. I came here to sleep and booked it to do that! Not wait till a room is ready!! Am I supposed to wait and still pay full price for less hrs sleep ?? Yes apparently This was booked thru DAYUSE, and now I have no where to sleep for the few hrs I need and paid for taxi 90 dollars to get to this stupid hotel. What is going on!? Wasting my time and money !!! Worst of all you shouldn’t be selling rooms that you don’t have! And least of all your staff just said … do you wanna try find yourself somewhere other hotel! Wasted taxi fare to this awful place!

My mom and I recently stayed here for a little getaway. Every single staff member that we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. Very good location, with a nearby subway entrance and walking distance to many attractions including Wall Street, 9/11 Memorial and the Statue of Liberty. The hotel is great, but the staff is what really puts it over the top!

The check in and stay were actually great. The front desk staff at check in was extremely helpful (Corday?). Room was very small but fine for my one night stay. I got a pre-bill emailed to me before I checked out and it wasn’t right. I booked the room on the hotel tonight app so room and tax were paid for. I was prepared to pay the ‘destination charge’ of $28 directly to the hotel. When I mentioned this at the FD at checkout I was flippantly told that the pre-bill was wrong and it would be fixed in the final bill. I got the final bill after I left the property and it was still wrong. I tried to call the hotel 6 times. Two of the times I waited on hold for close to 30 min. I hung up both times and tried to call back. The person answering the phone wouldn’t let me expalain that I had been waiting on hold for over an hour combined. They just kept answering and immediately putting the call on hold so that I couldn’t get a word in. There should be a way to talk to someone at the hotel without waiting on hold for that long. Or maybe provide an email address so that the request can be sent electronically and dealt with when there is time. Terrible customer service and that has ruined the entire stay for me and I still don’t have resolution for the over billing.

I understand that Newyork is know worldwide for being a tourist trap where they just want to scam your money away, but this is ridiculous. Arrived on the 22nd after 8 hours flight, rooms are unbelievably small with no closet, literally two little stools where to put clothes. No even complimentary water (you will be charged 6$ if you happen to be thirsty after 8 hours flight). THIS IS NOT THE WORST PART After couple of days we asked to get our room cleaned the next day and , after being out for like all day, we came back and the room was left exactly how it was. We had to call at 11pm to get fresh towel to have a shower!! The reception didn't have an explanation for that and luckily they managed to clean it next room. THE WORST STILL HAVE TO COME I work in hospitality and I can tell, this is ABSOLUTELY WORST TABLE /BAR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO PUT IT SERVICE. DON'T GET BREAKFAST IN THE HOTEL IF YOU HAVE PLANS FOR THE MORNING!! Very rude and stressed waiters, breakfast absolutely overcharged and with minimum waiting time of 30/40 MINS for a sandwich!! I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FRONT OF HOUSE SERVICE SO BAD.. It is a shame this being from same Mariott brand since it really lower the name of it. The worst part is that is classified as 4 STAR HOTEL!!! THIS SHOULD BE BARELY AN HOSTEL, THE FACT IS SUPPOSED TO BE 4 STARS IS UNBELIEVABLE... Location is good but it's the only part, for everything else is absolutely OVERPRICED AND UNDERTRAINED/RUDE/DON'T CARE STAFF. Definitely NOT RECOMMEND
