The PUBLIC Hotel emerges as a stylish urban retreat praised for its vibrant atmosphere and sleek modern amenities, including a rooftop with breathtaking views and distinctive igloos. Guests have applauded the establishment for impeccable cleanliness and its prime location, which affords easy access to the city's attractions. While the rooms' chic design and comfort are acknowledged, some visitors have pointed out noise disturbances and a scarcity of in-room amenities. The staff's warm and attentive service often receives compliments, yet there are occasional mentions of inconsistency. Despite these commendations, several guests question the hotel's value, citing high costs and unexpected additional fees.

Stay here for my second time 1st weekend in December,I stayed here for my second time 1st weekend of December ‘24 with my teenage son (from LA). We loved how close the hotel is to all the hip places, soho, LES, convenient subway entrances close by. The first time I stayed here was with my work team mates for a weeklong meeting, Zach really took care of us as a big group last year and this past December with my kid. Everything is much better with great hospitality.

The rooms where very comfortable and much like the rest of the hotel, they have air of modern chic design, it feels like a place to chill and turn up later.
There are modern details in the rooms: when walking in the drapery automatically raises, the touches of natural wood raw cement and clean lines, the lighting is cool and the room controls aren’t the standard western switches, very Japanese in vibe with the controls.

The hotel grounds are dynamic and match the modern chic look, the escalator with gold mirrors is the highlight, but the big rotating doors and the lighting in the entrance are the start of the details, the rooftop club also follow suit aesthetically and have great views, the Artspace club in the basement is a whole different vibe emotive of dancing and guaranteed good times with the disco balls floor to ceiling.

A great place, 10-10!

Dear Magneto465, Thank you for returning to stay with us and for sharing such a thoughtful and detailed review of your experiences! We’re thrilled to hear that your second visit was as memorable as your first and that you enjoyed exploring the neighborhood with your son. Being located near SoHo, the Lower East Side, and convenient subway entrances truly makes us a perfect home base for city adventures. It’s wonderful to know that Zach left such a positive impression on both your group visit and your stay with your son. Providing exceptional hospitality is what we strive for, and it’s always rewarding to hear that it resonates with our guests. Your appreciation for our modern chic design and thoughtful details, from the drapery to the room controls, means so much to us. We aim to create a space where guests can relax, recharge, and enjoy a touch of luxury, and it’s clear these elements contributed to your stay. We’re also delighted you enjoyed the dynamic atmosphere throughout the hotel, from the golden escalator and rotating doors to the rooftop views and the vibrant Artspace club. We designed every space to spark unique moments, and it’s great to hear they made an impact on your visit. Thank you again for your kind words and your perfect rating! I love this hotel. It's setting is remarkable for NYC--set back from the street with a park-like area in its front yard. The interior spaces are large and welcoming. You can sit on a couch in the lobby area and not be required to order something. There are work spaces with power outlets for people's laptops. I loved that there is a guests' only lounge with free coffee and fruit. What initially drew me to this hotel was the roof top bar--and it met and exceeded all my expectations. The views were amazing--no tall buildings were blocking the 360 degree views. My room was cleverly laid out to maximize space. The bed was in the window with a TV at the foot of the bed. There was even a couch and a table across from the bed giving me space for zoom calls. It has a very young vibe, which was fun for me as an elderly woman. It was a lovely 4-day stay.

Whether it's your first time in New York or you're a regular traveller, Public Hotel is situated in one of the best locations.

Trendy neighbourhoods, great restaurants, public transport and tourist highlights are all in walking distance. Meaning if you want to grab breakfast at Russ & Daughters in the morning, cross the Williamsburg Bridge in the afternoon to grab a slice at Finis, head to Little Italy for dinner and grab a late night comedy show at New Yorks infamous Comedy Club, you can!

As for the hotel itself, it is definitely cool inside, with a Peruvian restaurant, multiple bars including one on the roof and lots of 'instragram' spots.

We chose to book a 'Loft' room as we were staying for 7 nights over New Year and wanted the extra space. The room was modern and warmly decorated with plenty of outlets for charging every device. We certainly felt comfortable and well catered for. Unfortunately we were on a lower floor, so we got interrupted each morning by a garbage truck.

As well, for Europeans the room did lack slippers, dressing gowns and tea/coffee facilities, which we felt for a loft room (a premium room) it should have included. As well, the reason for the 4* review was that you could only go to the roof after 5pm, through a hard to find lift. Which is a shame, I think guests should have free rein. I also went in the guests private lounge on a number of occasions and they had ran out of hot water for tea.

I would stay at the hotel again based on its location but for shorter stays, I probably wouldn't go for a loft room and stick to standard.

This is the second time I’ve had the pleasure to stay at the Public. The first time was in October 2021, and I’m happy to say that nothing has changed (except for an upgraded and easy self check in). The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and feature the best lightning and ambiance around. The blackout curtains and sheets (all controlled via remotes) are an excellent touch too. Waterfall shower heads and a larger bathroom than most places I’ve stayed. Each time I’ve stayed on a high floor with an incredible view of the city. And even with a nightclub on the roof, the rooms are well insulated and I always have a great nights (I’m an extremely light sleeper and that hasn’t been the case for me in other nearby hotels).

My partner and I stayed at the hotel for a week while visiting the city to see friends & family. Location was perfect for us to spend time in different areas of the city throughout our stay and we could quickly get around whether walking, biking or using the subway.

The room was gorgeous with floor to ceiling glass windows creating an open and inviting space while spending time in the room. Room also had full blackout shades when mornings when we wanted to sleep in. The hotel also had a rooftop bar with amazing panoramic views of Manhattan that turned into a dance party in later evenings. There was also a full club in the basement of the hotel which we had a great time at. The lobby bar was also a great place to hangout and work during the day when needed and grab drinks.

Big thanks to Zack and Arielle for showing us around and making sure we enjoyed all the amenities the hotel had to offer. Overall a great experience and would highly recommend for anyone visiting the city for work or pleasure. Will definitely be back.

During my recent stay at this hotel, I faced a series of serious issues that left me deeply disappointed and dissatisfied with the overall experience. I feel compelled to share my feedback to ensure potential guests are aware of the shortcomings in service and professionalism that I encountered.

Firstly, the pre-arrival communication process was frustratingly inefficient. I struggled to reach the hotel staff for assistance ahead of my visit, which unnecessarily added stress before even setting foot on the property. A simple inquiry or request should not require constant follow-up, and this left me concerned about how smoothly my stay would proceed.

The issues continued upon arrival. While I was assured that my two separate reservations could be merged into one for convenience, there seemed to have been mismanagement in the handling of my payment records. This led to an unprofessional and highly stressful situation on the night before my stay was set to end.

On the final night, my key card suddenly stopped working when I returned to my room. Although this was rectified at the front desk with a replacement card, I was later subjected to an extremely disturbing incident. At around 12:30 AM, I was abruptly awakened by loud knocking on my door. To my shock, a hotel staff member entered my room without permission, claiming that payment had not been made for my stay. This accusation was completely unfounded, as there were multiple pending charges on my bank account that clearly evidence otherwise. Despite this, I was forced to provide my credit card again in the middle of the night to resolve what was entirely the hotel’s administrative error.

What was most upsetting about this ordeal was the disregard for guest privacy and security. Having someone enter the room unannounced in the middle of the night is not only unprofessional—it is outright unacceptable. Such actions demonstrate a glaring lack of respect for guest comfort and safety, which should be the hotel’s top priority.

Overall, my experience was marked by poor communication, operational mismanagement, and a blatant failure in customer care. The late-night intrusion, coupled with the accusatory tone of the staff member involved, left me feeling disrespected and deeply unsettled. I cannot recommend this hotel based on my experience, and I strongly urge the management to address these issues to prevent similar situations for future guests.

Hip hotel that fails in hospitality. No doorman to help with bags on arrival, check yourself in at kiosk and make your own keys. No welcome from absent front desk. Drag your own bags to your room because there is no bell service. Hallway is a dark and grey carpeted. Rooms have one small sink in the room next to the door. Tiny closet with 4 hangers, frosted glass cubicle with toilet and rain shower in the room. A bed is on a strange platform next to the window with no nightstands. No coffee, water, or minibar, no room service. However there is an essentials closet down the hall with an ice machine and filtered water and extra towels. Reserved a table at the rooftop bar for 5pm and they sent us a text 30 minutes before changing it to 6:30! The basement techno club lets out at 4am with a hoard of gen z exiting the hotel beeping horns.

booked a Loft with a Garden View at PUBLIC Hotel, expecting a luxury stay, but it was disappointing.
The hotel lacks amenities, with a gym missing weights, crowded lobby spaces, and no real front desk for help. Our TV was broken, and when we followed up after our stay, management offered a small discount on that night and 30% off a future stay—not much for an $838 room. They even asked if we called the front desk, which doesn’t exist.
Service was minimal, food overpriced, and guests rely on a filtered water machine instead of bottled water. The rooftop was nice, but staff was unwelcoming. For the price, I wouldn’t stay here again.

Dear Ryan, Thank you for sharing your feedback. I’m sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. To clarify, the rate for your room was not $838, and we made adjustments to your bill to account for the inconvenience you experienced. Additionally, while we understand your frustration, you did not reach out to us during your stay regarding these concerns. Had you informed us while you were on property, we would have been happy to assist and address the issues in real time. Instead, you contacted us only after checkout requesting a full refund. Regarding the gym, I personally checked after your departure, and all of the weights were accounted for. Our team ensures that our amenities are maintained regularly for guest use. We strive to provide a high level of service and to resolve guest concerns as they arise. If you’d like to discuss this further, please feel free to reach out to me directly at pnguyen@publichotels.com. Best regards, Pierre Nguyen PUBLIC Hotel

I've been staying at Public for many years now, probably 30+ times and counting. Unfortunately, the hotel and its management has precipitously gone downhill and I can no longer recommend it.

When you arrive, expect to wait and wait and wait to be checked in since they're chronically understaffed and the automated kiosks are fidgety and unreliable.
Then, once you finalllly check in, be prepared to have your upgraded room category downgraded or being told your room is not available altogether because they oversold rooms. And expect poorly maintained rooms with issues including missing bathroom doors and broken fixtures. It's truly appalling to see how poorly the hotel is run. And if you don't take my word for it - try flying across the country to stay there expecting a nice experience in what looks like an aesthetic hotel online and see for yourself how you feel spending your hard earned dollars for this poor excuse of 'an experience.'

Once you look past the catchy Instagram photos of the escalators (which don't even require you to stay there to access), the reality is this has deteriorated to a one star or two star hotel at best.

If you're in the hospitality industry, one would think you'd receive better service but somehow their corporate team is even worse. I've repeatedly attempted contacting them (Dante, Joshua) and have been waiting over six months for email replies. And when I request a call back I never receive one. It's outrageous. Given Public's partnership with Ian Schrager and his reputation in hospitality, it's amazing to see their business practices up close. The hotel clearly needs new management.

Dear Kyle, Kyle, your actions constitute harassment and are both unethical and legally questionable. You are posting negative reviews solely because we declined to pay you a commission for your own booking—a payment that would be illegal without a valid IATA number. Your continued attempts to pressure us through false and misleading public statements amount to extortion. We take this matter very seriously, and if this behavior continues, we will pursue legal action to protect our business and reputation. Regarding your October reservation, we provided you with a complimentary upgrade from a King Park View to a King Great View. For your November reservation, you originally booked a Standard Queen room. As a courtesy, we intended to upgrade you to a King Great View. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, we could only upgrade you to a King Park View for the first night before moving you to the King Great View on the second night. You did not pay for any of these upgrades. Additionally, the discounted rate you booked with our sales team was an Entertainment Non-Commissionable rate.

We just spent the weekend at Public and Highly recommend it! Its a pretty reasonable price hotel for NY city. I would suggest getting ur room on a higher floor though as we had a lot of street noise to the point it was difficult to sleep. Yes I know it NY city but hotel will have thick noise cancelling glass that helps with street noise except ofcourse sirens. We loved the open seating space wher eyou could park yourself and work if you needed to. The room was small which is expected for a NY city hotel butvery comfortable. The shower had good water pressure and though minimalistic it did the job. They do not provide a body moisturizer so if you are used to staying in hotels that provide that make sure you bring urs with you. All the food is delish!! Whether u get it from Louis which is their cafe or the restaraunts its all yummy! They also have a fresh fruit and smoothie bar. Customer service is also very good. Everyone we interacted with was kind and we never felt rushed. Ellis is a gem and we loved Rachel too! Its about a 7 min walk to the shops in Soho or shopping at Canal st. & you would have to take a train up to midtown or down to battery park. All in all we loved our stay there and it was approved by my very picky bougie teen as well!
