This is a super cool, old building with lots of character - you don't see this anymore in the new hotels. We loved walking around and looking at all of it. We chose it because it was close to the Santa Fe train depot and fairly affordable. The staff was pleasant and helpful. They upgraded our room to a suite because we were members, without us having to ask. The room was really clean, nice and newly updated! It's within walking distance of the waterfront and monument, as well as a ton of food and drinks. The negatives are, although we felt ok walking around with our (young adult) kids during the day for lunch, by 5pm it was scary (and this is in May so it's still fully light at 5pm). There were numerous obviously drunk, high, or mentally ill people walking around yelling at themselves and others. It didn't stop us, but it wasn't comfortable at all. We were definitely wary. Also, upon checkout they immediately charged us $54 for parking even though we didn't bring a vehicle. Good thing we noticed it, and when we brought it to the desk staff's attention, it did get removed right away.…
We are Marriott member, stay at the chain hotel often. This one is unique, it was a bank built in 1928, beautiful historic building. The painted ceiling, grand marble columns around the lobby…. details are just stunning! The old heavy vaults in the basement are very interesting too. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Food is good. Room is neat and good. There are a lot of restaurants around. Fun “Little Italy” and “Seaport Village” by the harbor are within 20 minutes walking distance. Only two things are not good. They charge $54 parking daily, valet. (Great valet service though). They don’t have parking lot. Apparently parking in San Diego downtown is tough and expensive. The other downside is, there are a lot of homeless people around, some walking around talking to themselves and shouting. It bothers us.…
Excellent hotel, beautiful property and great Customer Service! Rooms are clean and nicely renovated. Rooms were quite and housekeeping in the hallways were very respectful of guests. My only criticism is that Hotels of this magnitude cannot do more to completely blackout windows for guests to sleep? I would definitely recommend this property to anyone staying in Downtown San Diego!
Management (Bess Miller) and staff went the extra mile to help me and make my stay as comfortable as possible. Travelling can be an adventure (not always the good kind) and the Courtyard San Diego did everything they could to assist. My whole experience was great - ate at the restaurant several times (fast, friendly service), really cool architecture, friendly staff (valet parking, front desk). Really good experience for me. I am platinum elite Marriot member and I look forward to my next stay.
Extremely rude and unprofessional front desk agent told a gold member to not stay at the Marriott. I won’t ever stay here again. The workers now after COVID is something else. I’m staying here but checking out early from this place. Saved your time and money and check in right across the street to a BETTER hotel!
