The Wayfarer San Diego garners appreciation for its modern beach aesthetic and is often commended for its cleanliness and serene ambiance, although a few guests find certain rooms a bit outdated and noisy. Staff at the hotel earn high marks for their welcoming and helpful nature. Its prime location is a hit for its proximity to the beach, dining, and shopping, despite some concerns about noise. The comfortable rooms with ocean views are popular, as are the amenities, including a pool and bike rentals, though opinions on value vary.

We recently stayed at The Wayfarer in Pacific Beach in a king suite with an ocean view. The hotel from the outside is okay but the interior and room were wonderful. The staff and front desk reception team were super friendly and communication with the team via text message was so convenient. We had an issue with our AC in the bedroom and it was very warm, they sent out a team who couldn’t initially fix it and then they immediately had an outside company come in to resolve the issue. The suite was two rooms and each had a bathroom and also had a bar area countertop with sink which was great for washing bottles and baby toys. Being right on the beach, at beach level, I was nervous that it would be noisy but I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t hear very much outside noise except for the occasional music if someone passing by was playing it loudly.

The location was perfect for us because we were able to walk places easily with the stroller. Woody’s right nearby was the perfect spot for morning coffee and their breakfast (scrambled and pancakes) were delicious. Also it’s nice to wake up and be able to go for a morning walk/run and there are tons of people out in the morning and early evenings running, walking, roller blading, and biking. We easily had a car parked in the parking lot for one night. Overall highly recommend staying at The Wayfarer if traveling to PB!

Spring break 5 night stay for family of 4. Chose this hotel because it was right on the beach and kids wanted to learn to surf. Pacific Beach surf school does lessons right on beach outside the gate. Beautiful pool area with glass wall looking out at beach and ocean. Kids do not want to leave. Great find, will be back.

I enjoyed staying at the Wayfarer Hotel because it is next to the boardwalk and the Pacific Ocean. The hotel is in a U shape with a wonderful swimming pool and a warm hot tub facing out towards the ocean. One can go through a convenient gate down to the boardwalk from the pool area and walk across the street to an excellent restaurant called the World Famous for all your meals. The hotel also has a coffee shop and breakfast bar inside the lobby for convenience. Every room I had has some kind of a view of the ocean and you can sit on the deck from your room and enjoy the peacefulness of the waves hitting the beach at all times of the day and night. I’ve come here many times in the past because it is such a relaxing convenient place to enjoy the ocean because it’s so close. I like to rent a bike and ride on the boardwalk down past Mission Beach and back to Pacific Beach. The hotel even has bikes to rent for $10 an hour. This hotel is very convenient to all my beach experience needs.

Great location, and views,if you book certain rooms.first time last year i booked front ocean view room which perfect! this 2nd time around i booked partial ocean view room which was nice, but our specfic room(room 120) had cons. We requested a ground room, and at first we were very delighted with the location which was pool/jacuzzi side, litrally steps away, with ocean view right outside, but the cons was allot of traffic, meaning people constantly passing thru our patio area, due to an exit door to the walkway/beach being located at the end of our room/patio area. Then ground rooms near the pool have thier own patio furniture and table, and since we were near the jacuzzi, people using the jacuzzi would help themselves to our furniture,i would say people didnt respect that it belonged to us.And with that said, we lacked privacy.staying there for 4 days/nights seemed nice at first, but got annoying with all the people passing through, being loud in the jacuzzi, and using our patio with no regard for us. So we would just close the sliding doors when it got loud or leave for a walk. Next stay if possible i'd book full ocean view rooms as those are more private and quiet with spectacular view of the ocean.Staff was great, this Hotel is great with the exception of ground rooms lacking privacy.

It was amazing! The hotel is right on the Beach, so you can walk straight out to the ocean, plus it’s super close to great restaurants and shops. The rooms are clean, bright, and have a cool, beachy vibe that makes you feel like you’re on vacation the second you walk in. I stayed in a room with a balcony that had the most incredible ocean view—I could hear the waves all night, which was so relaxing. The pool area is awesome, with a glass wall overlooking the beach, and they even have bikes you can rent to cruise along the boardwalk.

The staff are super helpful! They were so friendly and made sure I had everything I needed to feel at home. You can tell they genuinely care about making guests happy, which is rare these days. With its great location, comfy rooms, and fantastic service my family has been coming here for years, it used to be called the Blue Sea Beach Hotel... but they upgraded the experience. The Wayfarer is hands down one of the best places I’ve ever stayed. If you’re planning a beach trip to San Diego THIS IS THE PLACE!

I absolutely loved my four night stay in room 361. It was just what I had hoped for. The staff is exceptional. I will call out Mike and Fernando Bello. Mike was so friendly and helpful. Fernando is such a hard worker! He was cleaning the salt buildup/rust from the exit gate at the pool that goes to the boardwalk and it was such a tedious task but he never let up! He was constant, consistent and rarely took his eyes off the job. My room refrigerator was coated with ice and was affecting it's performance and who comes to change it within 30 minutes? Fernando! So courteous and a lovely human. Ya'll need to keep these two folks! To be fair, I never encountered any employees that wasn't really great. To be honest, I would return in a heartbeat but I feel like I really lucked out with getting an oceanfront on the 3rd floor and I'm no so sure I'd luck out again like that. Upon returning I have raved about my accommodations but then have to add "but you're not guaranteed where you'll be assigned so you could end up on the ground floor". I would NEVER want to be on the ground floor, ocean front room! #1 I'm a single woman and travel alone much of the time; I just wouldn't feel safe. #2 when I do travel with others, it's other women and we would need two queens but ocean front rooms with two queens aren't plentiful and that just hinders my chances for being on any floor other than the 3rd. #3 the cancellation policy is pretty strict so if I showed up after traveling 1000 miles and was assigned anything but the 3rd floor, I'd be so disappointed. So considering the risk and the all over cost, I would have to find an accommodation on the beach where I knew what I was getting before I arrived. It's disheartening and sad because the location is really perfect and for a hotel where there's sea/salt air 24/7, it's in pretty good shape. Some of the carpet is in poor condition in the halls, but again, I have to consider the circumstance. I have zero regrets with my decision to stay at the Blue Sea Beach Hotel, but am really disheartened that I may never return. It was a lovely stay, fed my soul and rejuvenated me just how I needed to be.

The hotel is right on Pacific Beach boardwalk overlooking the ocean! In my opinion it’s well worth paying more for the oceanfront as the rooms open directly to the ocean and you can sit on the balcony and listen to the waves. There are also very comfortable beds, excellent showers, and huge TV’s. The staff is also extremely friendly and responsive! They have a system where you can communicate through texting and this came in handy! The area is also very fun: a lot of restaurants, a long boardwalk, and a really nice pool area.

Looking for a beachfront hotel in San Diego that’s also close to all the touristy attractions? The Wayfarer is it! We had a second story room that overlooked a public street/parking but it also had a wonderful view of the beach and the ocean. The pool and hot tub were also great and there was a gate out to the boardwalk from the pool area. Best of all was the professional and courteous staff who let us use the hotel amenities (pool, bathrooms) even after check out. I will say that our room could have used some refurbishing/upgrading, especially given the price we paid but other than that, a great beachfront hotel for the family!

Everything on the site was just like the pictures but looked even better in person. Very vibrantly colored throughout the grounds. The wall art on each floor brightened my mood. The pool area is gorgeous! The pool’s set up faces towards the beach perfectly where you’ll see the most beautiful view of the sunsets touch the ocean! They have lounge chairs to sun bath while you watch the sun go down!

The furniture and color schemes throughout the hotel are amazing to the eyes. Very cleanly kept. Literally across the boardwalk is the beach and even the beach is clean with limited sea weed. My room was a partial beach front but I ended up upgrading to a beach view. The hotel’s view of the beach is beautiful to me. You’ll see surfers and planes taking off and I saw a marathon happening! I think that was what it was but it was awesome!

The hotel is conveniently located next to the promenade where you’ll find restaurants and bars and a beautiful walk to get there if you choose too walk the beach side instead of the street side. The staff were friendly and informative. The hotel has a coffee shop as well called Zephyrs. They have bikes for rent and a surf school operating right in front. The hotel offers room service, surf lessons, laundry rooms, and more. It’s also conveniently located to just about everything you want to do in San Diego surrounding areas. I truly enjoyed the hotel!

Thanks to the staff of the Wayfarer! Our experience was outstanding, from "partial" views (great lookout from our balcony over the pool/hot tub to the sunset - don't be fooled by "partial") to a fantastic staff, we will definitely make this our go-to when we return to Pacific Beach next time. As a background, we are a married couple in our fifties with no children along for the ride. That said, with easy and convenient beach access and assorted activities, pool, laundry, and clean and friendly accomodations, we think kids are more than welcome and we heartily recommend The Wayfarer as an outstanding destination.

Hi, there are room types that have a few rooms that are on the first floor that open up to the pool deck. Even if a reservation is made for one of the room types, we are not able to guarantee it will be one of the few rooms that is on the pool deck as we guarantee room types, not room numbers.
