Nestled in a scenic spot, San Diego Mission Bay Resort offers travelers clean and modern accommodations praised for their spotlessness and maintenance. While the hotel's atmosphere is generally lauded for its vibrant music and inviting spaces, some guests have flagged inconsistencies in room quality and soundproofing. The staff's service garners acclaim for its attentiveness, though there have been occasional reports of less responsive interactions. Although the amenities are family-friendly, visitors have mentioned limited dining options and have been vocal about the resort's value, criticizing hidden fees and the high cost of certain services.

My family and I had such a great stay at San Diego Mission Bay Resort! Everything was perfect from start to finish and the room service was always delivered so quickly! One of the best parts was the welcome that Aricelo at the front desk gave us! He was so humorous yet professional and set the tone for a great stay!!! He offered suggestions for things to do and let me know of all the fun activities available on site. Would definitely come back!

Rooms smelled of smoke upon arrival. People also smoking weed in building and infiltrated rooms. Dining and bar closed early so you couldn’t enjoy food and beverage until pool closed. They should be open until same
Times. Menu was very overpriced for what you get and very limited selections. $10 for child’s peanut butter sandwich!!! That’s robbery! They had to send us away for seafood and the place they sent us to for seafood was very unprofessional and our food was cold by the time we got it back to the hotel, also... how are you supposed to eat crab without shell tools? If covewood was actually serving a decent Californian menu selection and had more reasonable prices this place would have been better. Also, they advertise a heated pool but the pool was freezing cold. when you are charging a guest $15 for a cocktail it better come in a real glass for gosh sakes. Not plastic! Very poor ambiance for the cost of this “resort”. Lastly, most of the amenities offered normally are closed for covid so there’s next to nothing to do. For the price of the place they should keep amenities open and do a good job of covid cleaning practices.

Our family stayed here for 6 nights and overall really enjoyed this property.

We stayed in a standard room with 2 queen beds on the second (and top) floor of their lowrise buildings. There is also a tower, but I'm not sure what the difference in rooms is. Our room had a balcony with a view of a grassy courtyard and the bay in the disance, sitting chairs and table. We had an empty minifridge, a huge TV, safe, one chair and sidetable for a sitting area and a high celing which made the space seem more airy. There are baskets and a few small drawers for clothes storage. Lots of USB ports and outlets. The bathroom was reasonably sized with a shower and shampoo/conditioner/body & hand soap & lotion. There was carpet in the bed/living area and cheap laminate in the bathroom/hall (it was bubbling up). The bathroom had chips of paint missing and could have used a deep clean, with some gunk in the corners of showers and discolored caulking.

The grounds are beautiful but there are birds that chirp through the night. Or maybe there was a nest near our room. A clear, consistent chirp every 10 sec that made me first think it was some sort of alarm. Heard it as early as 2am, definitely at 4am... bring earplugs.

The pool deck was great, we had sunny days so spent time on the loungers and in the pool. Lots of kids having a good time. The pool service was exceptionally slow, waitng 1 hr for our order of food/drinks. But I can understand that the service industry is generally stretched, and their staff was super friendly.

We ate at Covewood twice, for dinner and breakfast. Food was ok... quite pricy, my halibut was overcooked and food was again slow to come out. But breakfast was faster.

We didn't really participate in any of their other activities as we were out & about most days and missed them. There was a Friday night movie but no one running the popcorn machine. The fitness centre water dispenser was out for several days even after advising staff 3x . But the bartenders were willing to fill up waterbottles.

There's really nothing else in the area, no other restaurants but we preferred this location vs a downtown hotel as it made us feel more "on vacation". I would highly recommend for those looking for a relaxing hotel with great pool deck.

I am currently staying at this overpriced, rundown “resort” and couldn’t be more unhappy. The rooms are TERRIBLE. I paid an average of $650 per night for a double queen “studio,” which adds a two-seater couch and arm chair and tiny glass table. The room vaguely looks like the pictures on the site — in terms of the decor. What the pictures don’t show is the dirty carpet, filthy glass doors leading out to the balcony, and overwhelming stench of cigarette smoke. I was awake half the night trying to get over the smell, but still had the worst night’s sleep — at the cost of roughly $650.00! Our room safe is broken, the hotel only has something like 17 beach chairs to lend and 5 umbrellas (for the entire hotel) and they are all booked, and we need to take bath towels to the beach (not pool towels). I tried requesting enough beach towels and housekeeping showed up with fewer than I asked for and didn’t seem to care when I pointed it out. Also, this “resort” doesn’t have valet and still charges approximately $40 for self park. The building our room is in is so run down and shows so much wear. It’s very obvious they did a minor, cosmetic “renovation” — even the faceplates in the bathroom are old and yellow from the original building. There is no elevator and the rooms are entered “motel style.” The pool area has been redone and looks nice. The staff by the pool in yellow and blue shirts (pool and adventure staff) are nice and try to be helpful. Overall, we’re all extremely disappointed. This hotel bills itself as luxury, but it’s simply not. We routinely stay in Kimpton/IHG hotels that cost roughly $500-600 per night and are significantly nicer and provide true luxurious amenities. This place put all its money into the pool and decided it’s crappy rooms / zero services would be good enough. If we could find another hotel we would lose our money and leave immediately. I dread sleeping through another night of smoke smell. (Note the room is technically “nonsmoking.” ) A day pass at the pool might be fun for kids, but don’t stay here.

They don't have fitted sheets on the beds, when I asked for it, I was told it should have been there, then they checked with the room service and told me that they have it if the patron requests it, but they get it from a sister property so it would come next day, then I got a call saying that they don't use it at all?!? The rooms were not clean, spider webs everywhere, had to kill 4-5 spiders so my family could sleep. Sheets were not clean, asked to get them changed, room service changed it, but the comforters had stains on them. Then I noticed holes at the edges of the comforter cause the fillings were coming out. I called and got a new comforter, but that one had holes as well. At this point it was midnight I didn't want to call again. I booked 2 rooms but arrived with one vehicle they tried to charge parking on both rooms. We are used to staying at Marriott vacation villas and I am pretty sure I paid them much less than this property. Cleanliness is a must and they are not even close. At the check-in they didn't even bothered to tell me about the property or the amenities or nothing. I am not sure what their problem is, but if they don't want to be in business they should just close down. The location is beautiful and I have a feeling people are coming for that, but everything else is pretty much disappointing. I don't usually write reviews especially negative ones, but I feel like staying at this place would be waste of people's hard earned money. This is even after they claim the property is renovated. They put 72 inch Samsung tvs with 50 channels, no Netflix, etc capabilities. Internet connection works sometimes and does not work the other times. The more I think about it the more stuff comes to my mind and makes me mad really...

We arrived last thursday and enjoyed a great few days of a wonderful escape from COVID reality. The rooms were wonderful and the resort did a great job of distancing, using masks, and we enjoyed the property and were able to relax. The resort was only partially open and it seemed like they were doing a great job of making sure they were taking the steps necessary to be responsible during these challenging times. Then on Saturday they opened the tower and booked out the entire thing. The rest of the weekend was a total zoo. Large groups of partiers were acting like COVID didnt exist and began power drinking at 8AM. No masks, no protocol and no social distancing anymore. The resort still only had 1 of 3 restaurants open and the staff we spoke to were unhappy about management's choices to book out the entire resort's rooms while only keeping part of the resorts outdoor spaces open. It was the opposite of our first few days. We only felt safe in our room or just outside our room in the garden areas. It is places like these that value $ over safety that are continuing to drive the disease's numbers higher. Shame on Mission Bay Resort for promoting safety on their website but failing to deliver on that promise to both their staff and their customers.

As a San Diego native, I know some of the best places/ activities that the city has to offer. Mission Bay is one of my favorite locations because there’s so much to do in the water and on land. Molly Flynn was so accommodating and gave my friend and I the best villa on the water for our staycation. We were able to walk out the patio of our room to the sand and it was a short distance to the resort pool as well! The room was super hygienic when we arrived and everything was contactless during our stay so we were able to isolate away from others the whole time. Thank you again Molly and the rest of the team for a wonderful stay!!

We recently spent a week (Dec 14-21) at Mission Bay Resort, and we were so pleased that we chose this resort for our first family vacation.

The resort was clean and well maintained, which in this day is a bare minimum. The room that we had was spacious enough for us plus the Pack and Play for our daughter, without feeling cramped. We frequently observed the Mission Bay team out and about, tending to the gardens, pools, or other public areas. The restaurant staff was friendly and gracious, helping us feel welcome while also providing some excellent food (for breakfast, the marscapone french toast was amazing, same with the chilaquiles!)

We felt the location was ideal in terms of all the attractions we wanted to see. Being 15 minutes or less from the airport, downtown, Balboa park (zoo), Seaworld, La Jolla, and both Ocean and Pacific Beach meant that we weren't stuck in traffic for any length of time, allowing us to maximize our time.

What really impressed us were the people, specifically Arcelio and Jeffrey. Jeffrey was the first person to greet us as we pulled up, and in a short period of time, he made us feel extremely welcome. We saw Jeffrey sporadically over the remainder of our trip, and he was quick to wave, engage us in conversation, and even took pictures for us of our family.

Once we had parked and started the check in process, Arcelio took over and made us feel like we were home. Him and I got along great from the start, and for a few days, starting my day with a quick conversation with him really set the tone for a great day ahead. Arcelio gave recommendations for things in the area, as well as food options that may not have been commonly known, but were favorites of his.

Retention of these two staff members will go a long way towards repeat visits.

Other little unexpected surprises at the resort were Mrs Claus reading Christmas stories, ducks that landed in the pool, and hummingbirds!

I will say, the downside of the resort is the parking rate. You can park outside the resort (and have a two minute walk) for free, vs the $42/day rate, which adds up in a hurry.

This was our third time staying at the Mission Bay Resort previously Hilton. We like staying here due to the location and amenities. The resort itself was not crowded was handed hand sanitizer and disinfect wipes upon checking. My issue was my rude loud neighbors that were yelling profanities the whole night to each other. Needless to say did not get any sleep at all. We let security know but these guest were not told to leave even though one of the employees heard them arguing. When I spoke to management in the morning I was asked what was being said I told her I could not repeat it since it was just profanities and my kids heard all of it. It was very upsetting that management never offered any type of compensation or further investigated this domestic dispute next to us. Needless to say will not be staying there again. They have no regulations for rowdy guest.

The hotel, amenities, location, rentals, restaurants, pool area, park area and everything else was amazing. The price you are paying is for the location and great resort, it’s not often you have a resort like this on the bay. Some of the rooms are not updated, so be sure to ask for an updated room. They have a texting service where you can text a number and ask for anything you need like towels, coffee, room service, etc. It was so beneficial to our entire family. We had seven rooms and only experienced issues with one of the rooms mini fridge/microwave. Thanks Mission Bay!

Hi, what is the difference between a bay view and traditional water view room?
Answer from VedicVeritas

The Bay View rooms seem to actually be right on the water or beach, the water view rooms means you can see the bay or water but your balcony may not be directly on the path/beach or water. This facility has several buidings and a tall tower, so make sure you book exactly what you want.

I visited over the 4th of July and didn't feel unsafe. Didn't notice a bunch of homeless but there is a public park/bay area next to it so it isn't secluded. The bay front is within walking distance for you to paddleboard. It isn't a beach though, it is a bay area.

It is a very long walk, plus it goes through the older parts of San Diego (not desirable) you can take a cab to the trolleys in downtown old San Diego, very reasonable. Once on the trolley system, you can get off at multiple locations throughout the city and walk around, the trolleys come by every 20mins and stop around 5pm.
