From the moment we checked in we were treated like royalty. The room was perfect. The beds were very comfortable. The food was delish and it’s so centrally located especially for the Old Town Trolley pick up and drop off. The promenade walkway will take you all the way down to Seaport Village. Our only complaint about our entire two day stay was that we could never find parking in the Gaslamp District and the walk from the hotel was a bit far for 70 yr olds. Thank you Hilton Bayfront. Looking forward to a return stay.

Hotel's Favourite
We are Hilton Diamond members. The Bayfront is primarily a convention hotel but because of the location close to Petco and downtown (walkable) we decided to try it out. Petco Park is directly across the street from the hotel and the walk to downtown restaurants was maybe 15 minutes (does not require a car). The hotel is across the street from a Trolley stop which makes access very easy. The view on the bay is excellent with boats of all sizes going back and forth all day. The hotel offers a free hourly shuttle to Coronado Island and drops you off at the Hotel Del Coronado. The lobby is attractive and the rooms very adequate. Because it was our anniversary the hotel was king enough to upgrade us to a corner King with great water views. They also delivered a bottle of Prosecco and finger desserts to our room to celebrate our anniversary. The best part of our stay was the staff! Oscar checked in and was very friendly and professional. Gary the Bellman was the star of the show. He was so friendly welcoming and genuinely happy to see you. Shelly assisted with our room upgrade and was was just terrific to work with. Our housekeeper Grizelda was wonderful and did a great job each day making up our room. We had such a positive experience that we would not hesitate to return again. We were made to feel very welcome during our entire stay.

I had hoped I would not have to write this review but having had no response after almost a week from the General Manager I am very disappointed. We arrived after a long flight and were instantly concerned about the hotel. There were minimal Covid 19 protocols in place. I was shocked that over 50% of the Reception staff were not wearing masks, not to mention the guests. We did not receive a warm Diamond Member greeting and instantly felt concerned. The hotel is very large and in need of refurbishment, reception is very busy. As a positive it is in a good location . Upon arrival in our room we were shocked. A broken light, a strange smell. An old refrigerator in the corner. The bathroom was dusty and when I went to use the phone that was dirty as well. We called the front desk and spoke to Lauren, the Front Desk Manager, who was very helpful. We went back to reception and waited and was given a new room, This was slightly cleaner, although I still wouldn’t want to walk barefoot on the carpet. Still the same old refrigerator in the corner. We decided to change hotels. Lauren was very polite. We moved to the Hilton Curio Carte which we loved. I spoke to the Hilton Diamond Desk about my issues. After almost a week I have not heard from the General Manager of the Hotel or had my points returned. I am very disappointed by the Hotel and Hilton.

DO NOT STAY-The Hilton Bayfront was by far the worst place I’ve ever stayed. The line at check-in took 40 minutes to make it through, a cockroach ran across the floor and under the mini fridge area and as we all know where you see one cockroach there are probably a million which is absolutely disgusting, we were unaware of the pool reservations until we booked this hotel but we made a reservation for the following day and when we arrived there were no available chairs for the three of us. The pool staff was downright rude and unhelpful, they just shrugged their shoulders although I’d let them know that from our room I could see that the same people had been at the pool for hours, therefore no enforcement of their own rules. I then tried to contact the front desk staff to share our experience and basically nothing was done, I also received an email from Hilton asking about our experience which I replied to and no one even took the time to acknowledge the issue. Clearly they have a major customer service issue and I will be sure to never stay at this location again, as well as, tell everyone I know to stay away. There are plenty of nice hotels in downtown SD.

Also, we were dismayed by your report of a cockroach, and so we called in third-party experts today. They are investigating the matter and we can assure you this would certainly be an isolated incident. Naturally, the pool is very popular and so time slots are created in accordance with our Covid-19 protocol. It is certainly regrettable if this was not monitored. The frustrating situations that you detailed are uncharacteristic of our team and we are sorry that you had to experience this discrepancy. It’s truly saddening to hear about these poor interactions, and I certainly understand how these have made for a negative experience. Since one of the main purposes of online reviews is to highlight areas for improvement, we are pleased that your feedback allows us to do so. We always check in later in the evening due to our work schedules this time it felt like a huge inconvenience to the front desk staff. We told her that we had requested a specific room and She said, you should of requested that on your reservation. I replied with I have noted that on my reservation and I called to confirm before flying here from Sacramento. She replied with oh well then the other front staff did not do their job! Her manager was not interested on listening to us either. To them is just a stupid request. For me was more than that. I was there to celebrate birthday and they were not willing to help or make things right for us. We were there July 3rd through 8 after being in Hawaii for a week and has an amazing experience and this is why the same day we were flying back to Sacramento my boyfriend booked our flights and the room for my birthday weekend. And to be honest my birthday was ruined the second we got the hotel. We asked for them to put us on a higher floor and her response was that only had room 1527 available and no changes were allowed. We asked if this was something new and if things changed with the hotel that changes cannot be made and her respond was. Nope nothing changed someone just did not do their job properly. When we finally got into the room, the housekeeping was really bad including a bathroom that clearly hadn't been properly cleaned. Next thing the TV was not working in the room and the thermostat was not working property. We called the Front Desk and 2 ½ hours later they came to the room to fix it. At this time was 2:30am and after us calling multiple time. I typically like the Hilton brands, but this operation is being run very poorly. I hope someone from Hilton reads this. My overall feeling is that this is a generic huge convention hotel that treats it's guests like numbers and nothing else. There are many other better options in Downtown San Diego. Just in July along we had stayed at 3 different Hiltons properties in 3 different States and we were very interested on purchasing a time share because we love to travel and we were loyal customers of the Hilton brands. However, after this experience we will not be staying at any of your properties and we will make sure to let everyone know in social media about your poor customer service. Would not stay at this location in the future, would probably go to the Hyatt or Marriott which are close to this venue. I’m also requesting a full refund of $1,981.22 that we paid for a room that we didn’t want. I will be sharing this with the office of the CEO to let them know that this operation is being run very poorly.
