We enjoyed our stay here but noticed right away that wearing masks was hit and miss around here. No sign on the door reminded guests to wear masks, so they mostly didn't, and staff would sometimes wear masks, and sometimes not. Front desk clerks are behind plastic, so there is not an issue there, and since we saw several employees behind the desk without masks while interacting with each other, we can only assume (and hope we are right) that they, like us, were vaccinated. Every staff member we did meet was friendly and helpful. The property is an older one that they are modernizing, so don't be put off by the wrinkled wood-looking vinyl floor you'll see on the first floor. All the old dark wood doors have been spruced up with white paint, and our room was squeaky clean with modern furnishings. The bed was wonderful, the pillows the same. We had a suite, so we had a nice, clean sofa to stretch out on. Water pressure was fine. Breakfast was grab-and-go sandwiches to microwave in the breakfast room or your room, or you could select muffins from the breakfast room. Strangely, coffee was behind the desk. Perhaps that was to prevent all the construction workers staying here from filling giant thermoses. Some people have mentioned people hanging around the parking lot that looked suspicious. We noticed a group by the Dumpster several nights, but they were grilling out on a Weber and appeared to be the same construction workers we saw during the morning relaxing at night. The hotel's location is great, and while the street in front can get busy, we didn't hear any noise. You can easily walk to 20th and cross at the light, and then you'll be in the heart of the town for restaurants and museums. We would absolutely stay here again.

Response from Julie Ruud, General Manager at Wingate By Wyndham Los Alamos
Responded 25 Sept 2021
Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We appreciate any and all feedback to help us with what we need to work on and what we are doing correctly. So many of our guests have been here weekly or in the case of the construction workers you mentioned for over a year during the pandemic and yes have to be vaccinated to work on the projects they are on. The floor is going to be one the first items replaced when we start work on the interior of the hotel. It was part of the "renovation" that the prior owner had done and yes, it is very off putting to have such a poor job completed in the lobby of a hotel. Due to the polarizing effect mask mandates have had in this state, I do not feel that my staff needs to be subjected to abuse from our guests by trying to enforce them, the position is hard enough on a normal day. I feel guests should take and be responsible enough on their own to do what is right for the world and their little part of it and for the most part everyone has been. I am glad you looked past our lobby floor to have a comfortable and clean stay with us. We look forward to seeing you again when we hopefully can show off a better renovation. Thank you for staying with us and we hope you have many safe travels.

We experienced a confluence of operational failures, each small in an of itself, but which accumulated to a less-than-satisfactory experience at the Los Alamos Comfort Inn and Suites. Two days of our 4 night stay we returned to our room to find that our key cards did not work, and we had to go back down to the front desk to have the key cards reprogrammed. One of those days it took many minutes walking the facility to find a staff person who could help with our being locked out of our room. We had requested that the room be cleaned after our second night, but the requested room cleaning did not happen that day. The room was cleaned the next day, but that isn’t what we had requested. The coffee maker in the room was broken. We told the front desk, who assured us it would be fixed. It was more than 24 hours later before the broken coffee maker was replaced. The breakfast was reasonable for the hotel category. The room furnishings and décor were comfortable. (We are not fans of the configuration with the sink in the main room rather than in a separate bathroom, but many hotels were built this way in a particular era.) The wall-mounted climate control unit was fairly noisy, but that is also not unusual in this category of hotel.

The big plus point is the location in the center of the city - the sights of the "atomic city" are within walking distance.

The staff was nice, the room was absolutely fine.

The price was pretty steep for Comfort Inn. On the other hand, the far-flung competition would have been even more expensive.

When we were at the Los Alamos visitor center this hotel was recommended. Upon entering the property, Sonia welcomed us with great enthusiasm. She helped us find the best price. The room she suggested was quiet; a corner room.
The room was clean as was the hotel. The staff were pleasant. Sonia was always cheerful and ready to assist as needed. It was also a great location for our travels both in the care and walking in Los Alamos.

Well, first it is in a good location, room wasa good size, bed was comfy. However, it is under renovation. The entire first floor was covered in drywall dust and spray paint filled the air. The elevator (which was very small) had plaster on the floor and smeared on the walls. Our room was on the 3rd floor , so we were out of the mess.
We don't usually require housekepping, we reuse towels and make our own bed.But on the 4th day we asked for fresh towels and to clean the room, for the tub had backed up and the water wouldn't drain. We informed both the housekeeper and the front desk about our request. When we returned later that night, no towels,no freshening up, still backed up drain.
We inquired about a discount, due to the bad conditions, and they said "There are only 200 rooms in this town." Take it or leave it, There are no discounts"When we returned later that day, the person we talked to about the discount was suprised to see us and said"Oh, you came back?"
On the 3rd day they started tearing down the 2nd floor.
The breakfast room (on the first floor) was suprisingly clean, Except for the floor, wich was covered in dust and paint. Food was OK.
On the last day, they started tearing the wall paper off the walls on our floor. I went to the front desk, and asked to speak to the manager. I was told that she doesn't "come down till 9:00." I demanded that my drain in my bathtub be cleared! The lady at the front desk grabbed a plunger and came up. She later said she was sorry about everything, and gave us enough member points to get a free night. We were told that the renovation would be going on for about a year.
The most shocking part?, they charged an extra $80 for The Monday hoilday.(Indidgenous peoples day).
I usually use Choice Hotels for travel, but I will consider others now.
Oh ,yea, The coffee maker in the room did not work. They should have told us the hotel was under renovation. Exercise room was closed.

Kind of a shame, location is great and the room overall initially looked decent, even took my usual pictures until i got to the window and found that on a rainy day water was leaking but from the roof not from the window and has done so over a long period of time. Hotel has major roof issues and the mold in the room makes it uninhabitable. The girl at front desk i could never figure her out because she wasn't interested in actually communicating and seemed to be there by herself. She said there were no other rooms available so we could not move so we found other accommodations and left. I had prepaid so i hoped i would get a refund which she never made clear. I will say they did refund me in a few days for the prepaid stay. I hope they can afford to fix the major issue they have going on there and clearly have for a while. I feel like they are understate though and due to that have an issue with "caring" there. There was also a dirty used hand towel left hanging over the shower head... which short staffed or not is not a welcoming sight when you check in. Overall not a happy incidence and moving everything out and finding another location to stay rather ruined the evening.

I am sorry you had that experience with my afternoon employee it is not at all how I expect my staff to act with my guests. I will be working with her about her presence at the desk. Yes, she was the only one working as most hotels our size do not need an additional person on the afternoon shift. You were correct the leak was from poorly installed windows and when the exterior of the hotel is painted and new stonework put up starting early October, we have a fix to prevent the leaks into the window frames. I was absolutely taken aback when I inspected the room after you unfortunately did not stay with us to also find that washcloth over the shower head. I reminded all of my housekeepers that they need to look on the showerhead and on the curtain rail for terry that may have been left. I will also discuss with her why she did not offer you another room even if it was a different room type. I do expect my staff to care about all of our guests and as I stated I will be dealing with that at my next opportunity. I am very sorry that you had a long day and then had to find other accommodations due to my staff member not taking the initiative to find you another room in our hotel or in the area. I am glad it did not take you long to get your refund after I processed it that night when I was told what had happened. I will work with all my staff so issues like this do not occur again. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We all hope you will give us another chance to provide you with a great experience on a future stay at our hotel.

Our recent plans to visit were cancelled due to an airline problem causing us to cancel our entire vacation. I had non-cancelable reservations with Comfort Inn in Los Alamos. I called and spoke with Sonia and explained my dilemma. She was so helpful and kind to our situation, especially since our reservations were non-refundable. ( I fully knew this and accepted it.) Sonia empathized with our situation and said she would speak with her manager to see what could be done. Shortly after, I received a lovely email from Julie saying that we would receive a full refund due to the airline cancellation. What exceptional customer service from the staff. Thank you so much. I hope one day, we will have another opportunity to make our trip to the area.

Every staff member here is smiley, friendly and helpful.

This hotel has perfect location for exploring Los Alamos. You can literally cross the street and walk around the main tourist spots, as well as access a few major trails. All trailheads are within 10 min drive.

This hotel tries for little touches, like fresh popcorn every afternoon.

Would love to stay again.

Although our bed was comfortable, the comforter made sleeping difficult. Even with the room made quite cold by having to overuse air conditioning under the comforter it was insufferably hot. This has happened in several hotels in the Southwest. It ruined my experience in an otherwise fine hotel.

Few choices for traveler lodging in Los Alamos. This is one. Pretty basic motel across from Ashley Pond. Staff tries their best, but they're short of help. So sometimes the front desk is unattended while that employee is busy tackling other issues. Like helping to clean rooms. Bedding was comfortable and the location seemed pretty good. If you're a simple tourist you can actually walk to many of the town's attractions. At times, the elevator seemed a little iffy. Breakfast was fine. Attendant was on the ball.
