At Sorrel River Ranch Resort and Spa, the breathtaking location is a highlight for guests, who also enjoy the variety of amenities and outdoor activities available. However, there's a consensus that the value doesn't align with the high costs, especially given the overpriced services. The rooms offer comfort and views but receive mixed feedback on cleanliness and decor.
The rustic atmosphere is appreciated, but some believe it falls short of expectations for the price. Service quality varies, with reports of both warm interactions and frustrating service delays.

Detailed Reviews
While located in a scenic valley with almost 365 degree views, Sorrel River Ranch is not a luxury property so please don't be fooled by pictures and marketing. It is on a truly gorgeous winding stretch of highway along the Colorado River but be aware it is 30+ minutes to Moab (or 40 minutes to Arches Nat'l Park) and would not recommend driving back late after dinner.
Accommodations are not to 4+-5 star scale from a furnishings nor amenities perspective. While the room would be considered 'clean', a lot of small missed maintenance and upkeep items are reflected in my rating. Doors did not latch properly, dust and insects in the window sills behind blinds, plugs that didn't work, etc. Also concerning, exterior porches and public areas were not kept to luxury standards - obviously hadn't been blown or swept off, stray service items in shrubs along outdoor seating. The pool area COULD have been a big sell as view was really nice and convenient to all cabins ... but the exterior walls of the lodge and the area surrounding towel stands and water station were infested with spiders and their webs. Further, the pool did not have a rotating service/support person and used towels and trash were not removed over 4+ hour period.
Food quality was above average and portion sizes good though menu was not particularly expansive; however, prices were in line with expectations based on its distance from supply chain. You can order from the lunch menu until 5pm for
a late lunch/early supper which set us up to enjoy drinks and snacks on a blanket for sunset.

Dear Kristil L, Thank you for your review and choosing Sorrel River Ranch and Spa on your most recent visit to Moab. We are thrilled you got to enjoy the beautiful view of the buttes, mesas and the Colorado River! The drive into the ranch is breathtaking and it is one of my favorite drives in the area. We are very sorry to hear that we did not meet the level of expectation as you mentioned in your review and we are sharing this feedback with our team to ensure we improve in all areas. Overall we had a nice stay at Sorrel River Ranch. It is well located to all of the various amazing activities available in Moab, Utah. The food leaves a lot to be desired. It is a limited menu and never changes. Breakfast is the best meal offered at the ranch. Chef Tom was incredibly rude when we asked for him to ensure that his cooking and waitstaff wear and use their face masks while making and serving the food. His unacceptable response was that if we are so worried about wearing masks than why are we traveling? We explained it is a basic respectful requirement to wear a mask nowadays due to Coronavirus. Often the food took a very long time to arrive too. I will say Floyd the server and Eric the bartender went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The beauty of the surroundings is breathtaking. Bottom line the service is incredibly lacking, though the front desk did the best they could do. We won’t be going back.

The location of this resort is hard to beat. Anna was super helpful with arranging tours and accommodating my last minute request. Andrew led an amazing sunset hike in Arches. The only reason for not giving it a 5 star review was that they are clearly transitioning and could use a little updating. The restaurant and staff did great but if I had stayed for longer I think I would have found the menu limiting. Finally contrary to a previous review during my stay the staff were all masked and there were hand sanitizing stations readily available. I think they are on their way to 5 stars.

I have no problem paying for luxury when the service is reflective of the price. Unfortunately, our stay at Sorrel River Ranch fell short.
Location: 10/10, the scenery is absolutely beautiful and I recommend that anyone going to Moab drive down Utah 128
Food: 7/10, breakfast is by far the best meal so try to plan your day around that. Some of the meals were overpriced for what they were but it was all pretty good.
Cleanliness: 3/10, our room had flies in it upon arrival and it was never addressed after I brought it up to the front desk. When I originally called to book the reservation, I was told that the staff was allowing rooms to sit vacant for 24 hours before the new guests came - my mother is immunocompromised so cleanliness was a factor when deciding where to stay. Upon arrival, we were told that our room wasn't ready and that it was being still being cleaned. There was clearly a disconnect between what I was told prior and what was actually happening with the cleaning. Lastly, this has been brought up in other reviews as well but the pool towels were rarely swapped out once visitors left. Even if we weren't in a covid-era world, that would still be considered uncleanly. From what I could see, it deterred people from lounging at the pool
Service: 2/10, there was no one changing the towels at the pool or taking food/drink orders. When I did go into the bar to get a drink, it took 10+ minutes for two drinks to be made. The coffee machine in the bar was also broken so, unless we wanted black coffee, we were advised to go into town. I saw some other guests who were told that they had to get smoothies in town as well instead of from the resort because they were out of fruit. It should also be noted that Sorrel River Ranch takes a 20% service charge for any excursion booked through their concierge. Most of the activities listed on their website are able to be booked directly through the provider, so you are able to avoid the added fees by cutting the concierge out. I learned this the hard way when I saw my final bill at check out. I would have gladly tipped the concierge for booking our excursion for us, but being charged $100 for having someone make a phone call seems excessive.

Traveling during this time is different to say the least. It is something you think twice about before staying at hotels, flying in planes or or dining in restaurants. Until arriving at Sorrel Ranch, we have been pleasantly surprised and overly comfortable wherever we have stayed. Resort communities in Colorado, to Wyoming and Utah staying at some national parks cabins and 5 star lodging - everyone we have encountered in the service industry has put into place as many precautions as they can to protect their staff and guests from COVID, and to make their guests comfortable traveling during these times. Not Sorrel. The staff do not wear masks. No distancing. Rafts in the pool, lawn games and tennis racquets laying around for guests to use and no disinfecting. Pool chairs lined up next to each other. (At other hotels these things are clearly taken care of and not left to the option of the guest). We were told that the staff will wear a mask if they see guests wearing masks but this does not happen. In fact, we wore our masks throughout dinner (but for eating) at the restaurant on property as our server was not wearing one. Other 5 star hotels are not providing cleaning during your stay - not the case here, which of course is nice if you are comfortable with the cleaner/cleaning. When I entered the hotel gift shop in a mask, 4 employees sitting there not masked. To each their own, but you would think a hotel of this caliber, with guests from all over, would make more of an effort to protect their staff and guests.
Beautiful hotel and location, pleasant staff, dated room and bathroom for price. But big problem if you are looking for COVID safe lodging.

The Sorrel River Ranch boasts a magnificent location, close enough to the town of Moab, but far enough away from the T shirt shops, motels, and traffic of town. The setting is idyllic, and given the rates at the hotel, we were expecting an extremely high end experience. This place isn’t that. The rooms are adequate at best and desperately in need of a redo. The staff s friendly and eager to assist but at this price point you’d expect your needs to be anticipated. There was no bottled water in the rooms, no turndown service. The spa is basic at best. No room service. Quality of sheets and towels not great. Our dinner in the restaurant was good but the menu was a xeroxed sheet of paper. Service was cheerful but very slow. Wine list is lacking. If this place cost $400 a night or less, it would all be fine. At $1000 a night, one expects accommodations and service at the level of a Four Seasons or Ritz. Sorrel River Ranch could be an amazing destination resort in beautiful Moab. There’s much work to do.

We stayed at the Sorrel River Ranch in September 2021, which describes itself as the “best luxury resort in Moab, UT . . . [with] the amenities of a rich and luxurious experience.” Unfortunately it’s neither of those things. With rooms exceeding $1,000 per night they set a very high bar that isn’t cleared. We were very pleased with housekeeping who were right on top of things and very efficient.
Some of our unmet expectations included the following:
Studio rooms that don’t include sitting areas
Bathrooms
Out of date finishes
Plastic tub surrounds
Dirty/discolored shower curtain liners
Kitchen areas
Out of date finishes
Unlit parking lots/roadways
Unlit walkways to cabins
Breakfast (not included) was cold, as was the coffee. The service was very slow (which we might have understood during the pandemic if not for the other disappointing features).
Poor service - we arrived late, one of our group was escorted to their cabin in a golf cart. They were driven to the cabin next to the main lodge and abandoned. Their “guide” literally ran off because she couldn’t read in the dark. Another staff member was asked to help finding their room and was told that “this happens often.”
We had dinner at the Ranch once where they ran out of bread . . . . ???
The location is lovely – overlooking the mountains and the river, but it’s also a 30 minute drive into town. Had we liked the ranch it would have been worth it, but it was a lot of driving for unmet expectations.
Overall we can’t recommend this Ranch. It was very overpriced and were we to return to the area we’d look at the newer hotels in town.

This is really hard to write. I must start by saying my wife and I had the most fantastic trail ride of our life. If you can come here and ride at the ranch with Diane I recommend 100%. The setting and property landscape is beautiful. The ranch and JJ mercantile seem like the glory of this place.
The accommodation was disappointing. When you pay a premium you expect a certain level of service and attention. We paid over $800 a night for our honeymoon for a riverside king. We were placed in one of the few rooms that had upstairs neighbors, we could hear everything and were woken at 3am. Our porch was covered in spiderwebs and moths. It seemed like the room we were in had been forgotten. Other than a welcome plate our honeymoon went unacknowledged.
The kicker is when we asked how much it would be to stay another night, maybe thinking it was worth it. We apparently got a deal with our room and it would have been an extra $300 in addition to our room rate. If you are charging over 1k a night you really expect a luxury level of service that was not there.
We went down the road to red cliffs lodge that was a fraction of the price and was very close to the level of accommodation you will expect from Sorrel.
I do want to say that Mikel who was working as a bellboy was so nice and did so much for us. And again thanks to Diane for the lovely ride.

Dear Arigby, Thank you very much for taking the time to recognize two of our associates. Both Diane and Mikel work so hard to make sure the guests are taken care of and enjoy there time at Sorrel River Ranch Resort and Spa. We have also shared your feedback about the spider webs with our team and we are very sorry about them on the deck. We are glad you chose Sorrel River Ranch to celebrate your honeymoon and we are happy that you enjoyed the beautiful landscaping, trails, and JJ's Mercantile. We hope to see you again. Beautiful location; average rooms and food; terrible service. The location is incredible - one of the best settings of any resort I’ve ever stayed at. But the service could not have been worse. Slow food and drink orders - or forgotten completely. Pool chairs and food not cleaned up; wifi didn’t work. The hotel also doubles prices of their excursions - call the local guides directly. They were also completely irresponsible on masks. Despite signs saying masks were required (by the county) Servers / bartenders / front desk workers often didn’t wear them at all, wore them improperly, or just hung them around their necks. As for the food, it was hit or miss; the resort is 18 miles from Moab, but after our first dinner there, we never ate there again.

You can’t help but feel ripped off when you stay here. For $1000/night one would expect exceptional accommodations and service. This place has neither. The staff is mostly young kids with zero experience. The rooms are poorly appointed and the bathroom is a joke - tiny with a shower that is a plastic insert. We had a much nicer room and bathroom at the Courtyard Marriott in AZ (where we stayed after we left Sorrell) and where we paid less than 1/5 the price.
When you stay at Sorrell you are one half hour from any other restaurant so you are forced to eat mediocre, overpriced food if you don’t want to drive an hour round trip.
They also make you pay in full before you even arrive so you can’t check out and find a better place, which would not be hard to do!
I strongly recommend staying in the town of Moab and staying far away from Sorrell. Wish I had read this review before I booked!

Depends on your reservation and what kind of meal plan is included. For mine, I had breakfast included.
I hav wonky been there in the fall, so I am not sure. They are very friendly - give them a call and they can tell you!
Yes. There is a very large pool next to the main lodge and restaurant.
