Detailed Reviews
The staff was exceptionally kind and welcoming. I was especially impressed with the professionalism of the young man that checked me in! After a long flight, it was refreshing to see a smiling face that efficiently got my family checked in.
I was a mother traveling alone with 3 little children and felt I made such a great choice of staying here. I wanted a place that was easy to find and a simple drive from the airport. I also wanted a little further away from Garapan for a more relaxing stay. The location was ideal for me. Honestly, Saipan is very tiny that any location is fine. It was clean, safe, and my kids could simply walk outside and be at the beach. A delicious bakery and restaurant are on-site.
You could tell that a lot of thought and pride went into the upgraded rooms. The beds and linens were awesome. Having a mini-fridge and microwave was a feature I did not see in other hotels in this price range. This was especially useful for traveling with small children. Also, my daughters smiled that housekeeping was sure to arrange their beloved stuffed animals nicely on the bed after making them.
The only small complaint is the slamming door on the second floor that leads to the outside stairs. I'd highly consider locking this door at a certain point in the evening, or fixing how loudly it slams shut. It startled us a few times while sleeping.
I've been recommending this place to all the US military looking for a nice beach vacation in beautiful Saipan. Go here!

My husband and I traveled to Saipan two weeks ago for a week, to visit family. Surf Rider was recently re done, and everything is brand new. We were so impressed with Surf Rider Hotel. They let us check in early, their staff was the cleanest and kindest staff I have truly ever encountered. They have a very nice gym, free and clean laundry room, a business center, access to ice machines, cold and fresh water with lemon in the lobby, current newspapers, a vending machine room with food and also a machine filled with any traveling necessities you may need or forgot at home. As well as an amazing lobby. The room cleaning staff did a great job every single day, they were very thoughtful in cleaning our rooms and replacing towels and sheets. We were so impressed with our entire stay at Surf Rider. We will DEFINITELY be staying here again when we come next year. I do see that some of their older reviews may not be the best, but they have completely redone their hotel and I would recommend them over and over. There is a nice restaurant right behind the hotel with the most gorgeous beach. As well as a breakfast and lunch spot next door. Parking is very convenient. 10/10 stay here!

Absolutely the best hotel in Saipan. The beds are so comfy, the staff are amazing and the food is fantastic. The hotel is nicely appointed and feels like the beach home you have always wanted. It's just steps from their fantastic beach front restaurant and has a sugar sand beach (the largest beach we found on the island) with water so blue you could opt out of a mask if you wanted to. We highly recommend a visit, we can't wait to go back.

The rooms were very clean, spacious and had black out curtains. The staff was lovely, helpful and very professional. Beds were comfortable. The gym seemed new and had water bottles for guests.
Location is right at the beach . I highly recommend the hotel.

My partner and I stayed at the Surfrider for two nights and we were completely surprised because the photos of the room online differed significantly to how it looked in person - and this was a good thing! It turns out just a few days before we arrived, the hotel had just celebrated the grand opening of its new wing.
The hotel is small. The new wing, from our count, has a total of 18 oceanfront rooms spread over three floors. Our room was large, comfortable and stylishly furnished. Same goes for the bathroom - modern, clean, with lovely citrus-scented toiletries. I am surprised we managed to book the hotel for only $98/per night. They could totally get away with charging $100-$120 per night in the new wing as it would still be a great value compared to the likes of the more centrally located Hyatt and Fiesta.
The location isn't an issue. Although it's a bit farther from Garapan (~20min drive), Saipan isn't that big of an island so if you are renting a car you should be fine. Plus, even if you are staying in one of the more centrally located hotels in Garapan, we highly suggest renting a car to get around anyway.
There is a great bakery/cafe nearby called 'Great Harvest' which has some really good breakfast/granola bars and decent coffee. Beach front is nice and the hotel has a on-site restaurant which is good but lacked seafood options.
Giving the hotel 4 out of 5 because the hotel staff did not offer to help us carry our luggage. We had a ton of luggage as we were on business and brought over merchandise for our Saipan-based customers. When we asked for a luggage cart, they simply handed it to us and left us to do the rest. This wasn't a deal breaker for us though but it is worth noting.

Surfrider-Ride right past
Im a nurse who came to vaccinate Saipan for a 4 week contract working 6/7 days 10 hour shifts- Having a clean comfortable hotel is a necessity- picturesque ocean access a BIG plus. Surf rider is a small building with a Great harvest bakery on the grounds and ocean front dining. For the 1st week it was lovely (other than a broken ice machine and someone’s clothing left in the closet) .I was told at check in I could stay on the 4th floor until a special event for 4 days and I would have to move to another wing until the wedding festivities were over. I was moved to another wing which seemed unused and hot. The 1st room I was given after the move had bugs on the bed and desk and I was moved down the hall- with a view facing a wall and tank. Either the staff made an error, or it was supposed to be some sort of concelation prize-a fruit basket appeared in my room and when I opened it the fruit was rotting- the oranges were moldy blue and the scent of rotting fruit very powerful.(see attached)
Heres the thing- I travel a lot and its not unusual for things to go wrong- its what the business does to correct the wrong that makes the difference between a 2 and a 5 rating. I asked the manager to contact me when the insect problem arose, and they never did- NO one is going to sleep in a bed with bugs on the covers! I spent 17 nights in a place where I was treated as a version of second-class- the ocean view rooms appeared unused after the wedding( turns out it was Bob the owners nuptials) . I asked specifically for a bathtub room and that was only present in the ocean facing rooms-there was no explanation why I couldn’t move back to the 4th floor and working 10 hour shifts with every Sunday off didn’t give me a lot of time to chat. Surf Rider has the potential to be unique -but I am disappointed not to be able to recommend it.

I was in Saipan presenting a seminar at the Pacific Islands Club. The plan was to fly out to Guam after the seminar but the flight was cancelled. A friend was able to get me a room at the Surfrider Resort Hotel. I did not arrive until after dark and left at 6 am the next morning so this is really a partial review.
The room was excellent--newly remodeled with a very nice with a shower bathroom (no tub). It was small to average sized room with no chairs but perfect for me. There is a coffee/sandwich bar "next door" for breakfast and lunch that the locals say is excellent.
The only drawback is that there is no elevator and my luggage was large.
Good news....if the rest of the hotel is as nice as what I experienced, would definitely stay again. Great value especially for the price.

Spent 4 nights at Surfrider and really enjoyed it. The room was very comfortable: nice bed, good AC, modern furnishings, decent TV channels, nice bathroom supplies, safe, and fridge. The reception staff were very nice and friendly. Washer and dryer for use. The Surf Club is very close by. The beach behind the building is lovely and has sand like powder--good place to watch sunsets. Only small downsides are the bit of traffic noise you hear during the day--at night it's quiet. They're working on a Chinese restaurant and bakery on first floor. All rooms are on 2nd floor and require climbing stairs. No elevator.

Front desk staff is very helpful and friendly. Most especially Gwen. She gave us a lot of helpful information about how to get around and where to eat and shop for necessities. Housekeeping staff also very friendly and helpful. Rooms look new and clean. Housekeeping gave 2 water bottles every day-this is a must in Saipan as you should not drink from the tap. this is the first time I have found a hotel that give bottle water every day! Hotel is near the airport. It's easy to get around. I liked the location because its away from the touristy part (Garapan) where there is a lot of foot traffic and limited parking. Hotel parking is limited but adequate. the hotel was fully booked but we never had problem with finding parking. Downside to this hotel: there is an additional fee if you want guaranteed early checking in. There is no elevator and all the rooms are on the second floor.
I would definitely stay here again. They are going to open a bakery downstairs in the next few months. And they are expanding so next visit should be even better.
