Detailed Reviews
The staff are all extremely friendly, attentive and knowledgeable - exceptionally so!! We are BonVoy members so maybe some of the positive experience can be attributed to that. Such as they offer extra amenities (like early checkin or late checkout) without being asked. They provided food credit using the required $40 destination fee, and also the use of their in house car and driver for evening ride service to and from our restaurant choices within the city proximal to the hotel. We booked the Club lounge rooms and it was so very convenient for morning & mid day meals as well as late night lounging access after dinner. This is our 3rd time staying at the SF Ritz and we will stay again whenever we have the opportunity to be in the City. There were many who assisted us but I remember a couple names: Theresa at the checkin desk, Landon who showed us our room, the concierges at the Club lounge, all the staff in the lounge food area, and Joel at the car arrival and departure entrance. Thank you all for a wonderful stay in our favorite City.

We experienced great service. Thank you....

Glad they gave us two bars of soap, one for the sink and one for the shower (I prefer bar to liquid soap) . Toiletries included jumbo sized (not individual packages) of shampoo, conditioner, moisturizer, and liquid soap: Philoykos brand. (The French trend continued with Dammann tea in the dining room). In room amenities included robes, slippers, mouthwash, Nespresso coffee maker/coffee, organic tea, bottled water, etc.
Our room was large, comfortable, and clean. I especially liked that the large bathroom with two sinks included a toilet behind another door (water closet?). There were only two minor things I didn't like. (1) The tv was restricted - you can't connect any devices; you can sign into Netflix, but not most other streaming services. (2) You must step into the tub to take a shower, at least it's low tub/small step.
Our room included a $64 credit for breakfast for two; note that this is the cost of breakfast for one: pancakes, bacon, orange juice, and tea/coffee. We had an additional credit that we used at the bar, but should have saved for breakfast!
Breakfast is served in the dining room and lunch/dinner is available at the bar. The food was excellent and very attractively presented - the cauliflower appetizer is a perfect example. My only complaint is that I wanted more, more cauliflower and more of the black sesame sauce.
99% of the staff wore masks; Masks are optional for guests and most did not wear them, even in the elevators. There is no outdoor dining.

Great stay at the San Francisco Ritz Carlton!
We had a lovely stay at the Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco.
The building is beautiful and unlike the Fairmont and Top of the Mark (also on Nob Hill) it is much less crowded at the holiday time. The decorations were very tasteful and the bar service was amazing. It was our 25th anniversary and my husband and I were upgraded to an executive suite with a full living room and vestibule plus very large bedroom and lovely bathroom.
The pros:
The Marriott Bonvoy Chat app had wonderful responsiveness and very polite people.
We were given complimentary champagne and strawberries with a lovely note when we got back from our evening.
The hotel was quiet and unlike the crazy hustle and bustle of the other hotels on Knob Hill that we walked into.
The bellman and valets were exceptionally polite and remembered our names and catered to every little need, even umbrellas as we walked out.
Our teens were in a different room but also lovely and felt special and festive at the holiday.
The cons:
Having Platinum status for life doesn't mean anything here. The gentleman who welcomed us wasn't particularly welcoming. He didn't know of any of the conversations that had been had with the concierge or on the app and didn't give us any sort of welcome, including the daily events that would have let us know there was a martini bar for free from 3 to 4 while I was paying for a martini at exactly the same time.
There is no breakfast included with Platinum status.
There is a Club Lounge but not for Platinum members (only for those who "belong to the club" - the response when we asked about upgrading to the Club level.
Still a lovely visit in a gorgeous section of San Francisco. We have a fabulous steak dinner at Osso which is a delightful walk from the hotel.

This is one of the worst Ritz Carlton that we have ever been too, we are ambassador status with Marriott. Horrible upper management staff, do not cater to their customers needs, Ritz kids is a joke, It’s a coloring book and some crayons. Those who stay here beware they will Charge you for items you did not purchase or valet you did not use or for a room you did not stay in Or for nights, you did not stay there.

Our first visit to San Francisco and it was a special family holiday so we wanted to stay somewhere special. The location of the Ritz-Carlton is excellent and gave us walking access to most of San Francisco - the views are obscured by the rest of the building but this was not an issue for us.
We had booked a couple of club rooms and the rooms were well apportioned with good facilities and great beds. The club room was excellent and a real high point for us - the team looked after us/everyone really well and we had breakfast, afternoon snacks/drinks and then evening drinks daily in the club lounge.
The team in the club lounge were also great help when booking some excursions - we had already booked a visit to Alcatraz and a baseball game, but we wanted to go across the bridges etc. and they helped sort this for us and the result was brilliant!
We used the restaurant downstairs as well and whilst the menu was a bit limited it was good quality and again good service.
Everyone who looked after us where great and we very much enjoyed our stay and when we come back to San Francisco we will happily stay at the Ritz-Carlton again!

Overall it's a dated property with the most condescending front desk service (including the front desk manager) that I've experienced at any Marriott property before.
The hotel attempted to charge us for an extra night by stating that we never requested a late check-out of 4PM (guaranteed by my Titanium status) when I did confirm the evening before as well as the morning of my checkout day. The front desk manager argued with me for approximately 20 minutes and would not budget on removing this charge until he agreed to "make an exception this time". How ridiculous of him and embarrassing for any Marriott property let alone at what is supposed to be their flagship brand.
The location of the property is the only thing you'd stay here for as it's in a relatively calm area of the city. The food and drinks on-site are mediocre at best.

Dear jp65467, Thank you for choosing to stay at the Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco and providing your honest feedback. For the Ladies & Gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton, the genuine care and comfort of our guests is our highest mission! I sincerely apologize for falling short of your expectations regarding your recent stay with us and with regards to the late check-out request. Member benefits vary, depending on brand (i.e. may be applicable at a Marriott, but not a Ritz-Carlton) and availability. At The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco check out is 11am. (Late check-out requests are based on availability on the day of departure, and after 12noon they are extended at a fee, up until 4pm. After 4pm, a full-day rate is charged). I'm happy that the Front Desk manager was able to make an exception this time and meet your request. Your comments have been forwarded to our Leadership Team as a means to improve the service we provide. I hope you choose to stay with us again when your travels bring you back to the area as I look forward to the opportunity of restoring your confidence in The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco. I recognize your time is valuable and appreciate the feedback you have taken the time to provide. Warm regards, The Ladies and Gentlemen of The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco

We were between staying at the Fairmont and the Ritz Carlton for our visit to San Fransisco, and we are very glad we went with the Ritz. The historic Nob Hill building was beautifully renovated a few years ago, wonderfully catching the grandeur of the establishment. The Ritz Carlton’s central location in Nob Hill provides easy access to the rest of the city. In addition, the in-room breakfast was spectacular, and always delivered on time. Every single employee was kind and accommodating, especially Patrick who proactively assisted us when we had issues with our Turo rental. This Ritz Carlton certainly lives up to its name, and we will certainly return when our travels bring us back to San Fransisco.

The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco is a high-end hotel located in the city’s well-known landmarks, as it is only a few blocks away from the active Chinatown neighborhood and restaurants and shopping in like Union Square. This historical hotel is known to embody a beautiful combination of cut sup modernity and sophistication offset by classical qualities of beauty and style.
The cream of the crop service is provided whereby the guests should not have to do much, all the fine details are considered and room for improvement is almost non-existent. Another highlight of the premises is the hotel’s wine bar which is small but tastefully decorated and offers a selection of fine French wines, which is just what is needed after a long day. If you are taking a business trip or even a staycation, staying at The Ritz Carlton, San Francisco is an experience you will never forget. Great and friendly staff. Love the location! You get to experience the San Francisco hills.

There are some fantastic hotels in the world. There are hotels (although fewer and fewer) with outstanding service from the moment the car door is opened until you, dear guest, wistfully depart at the end of your stay. There are hotel stays that, years later, you dreamily remember – the flavors of your food, the laughs you shared with the loved ones with you, the particular kindnesses that were shown to you by staff - with the certain memory that it was one of your best.
And then, dear guests, then there is the San Francisco Ritz Carlton. And specifically its CLUB and those amazing staff members and the enveloping stellar service they provide . And there…there at the SF Ritz you will have a stay that unites the most fantastic hotel (…the architecture, the location, the flowers greeting you in the lobby, the front desk staff, the concierge, the fortune cookies, the glorious scent!), a level of service from _every_ staff member that surely is peerless in the hospitality world today (kudos to you, GM Mr. McDermott, for setting the pace, to Rose and Aaron for the incredible service they provided, and to your entire amazing team for their commitment and delivery), and every element for a memorable stay, one that you will cherish for years, if not decades, to come.
Thank you to all of the Ladies and Gentlemen of the SF Ritz, and its Club, who helped me introduce my youthful granddaughters to their first taste of Ritz (and it was, thanks to you, a joyous bite…so big, I had to apologize to their parents for raising the bar so high!) and celebrate my friend’s birthday and engagement.
We will all remember that special weekend with such fondness - and probably even a tear or two of joy as years go by – and look forward to any time we are fortunate enough to return.

Truly a fantastic hotel in a great location of the city. I stayed in September 2021, a time when many hotels were not offering most of their usual services, yet this hotel had twice daily housekeeping and room service.
The staff were exceptional. We ordered room service for breakfast each day and most evenings and the room service attendants knew what we liked and anticipated our requests after the first day. I commented how amazing their homemade ketchup was and when returning to the room later that day we found a personalized note with the recipe and two jars of the ketchup to take back home.
