Although the small parking lot is your first impression of the place, don't let that deter you. The entire staff is friendly and helpful and ready to make your stay the best! It's a cute little funky boutique hotel with beautiful grounds, including a artsy pool as the main courtyard focal point. The rooms are clean, cozy and has all your basic needs. If you need something not there, just call the office! They are ready to help and get you what you need. My friends had their wedding there. It was well supported by the staff and a perfect place for the guests to have their rooms to go sit and rest in between the wedding events. It's in the perfect location, near Little Saigon and Great American Music Hall and other great places to eat and listen to music.
For my Covid B-day I wanted to do something....but I wanted to stay close to home and I wanted to get into a fricking POOL. It's not my1st time at the Phoenix. I've been coming and staying for Pool parties since WET was hosted here. So I KNOW they have one of the only outdoor heated pools in the city. And I wanted THAT. And I wanted to be able to eat and drink without to much walking. The Phoenix checked ALL those boxes plus they have beds that don't send me home with backpain. That's always a plus!! We were there for Friday and Sat Night. We checked and had dinner at Chambers which was serving outdoors in courtyard with heat lamps, the wind walls and a DJ. It was very Supperclubish and the ALL the food and alll the drinks were on point! And our server was lovely. We went into the pool after dinner on Friday night, After soul food from Brenda's around the corner for Brunch the next day and Sunday morning before we checked out. We enjoyed the music that the DJ played on Sat night in the courtyard even though we were eating Chinese takeout from the Richmond. The atmosphere was lovely all weekend. Because let's face it-EVERY THING is better when there is a Good DJ!!! I tip my Tiara and my glass to the whole experience. And am seriously considering doing an expanded version for my B-day next year. …
I really wanted a place where I could spend some of my visit just lounging, and Phoenix nailed it. Even with weather in the low 60s, their poolside was where it's at. Excellent staff - very warm people. There are also some great restaurants in walking distance, including late night eats. The only caveat - some people may find the neighborhood a bit rough.
The 1950s mod layout of the hotel was everything, from the minute you walk in from the gruff streets of the tenderloin you walk into an amazing oasis with mature magnolia trees and their iconic pool with. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and the overall atmosphere is a delight. The staff is lovely and made for an even more enjoyable stay. Parking is available for a fee.
The Phoenix is a very cool and comfortable hotel. Beds were cozy, pool was the perfect temp and the staff were beyond friendly/helpful. The neighborhood does have some grit to it, but that’s all part of the full city experience and we felt very safe in the hotel and walking around the area. Will definitely be returning.
The hotel is a hidden gem in the city. Onsite parking, Outside pool, and an awesome staff. I packed my jewelry in my bag. Left my bag in the lobby while I attended a graduation in the city. When I returned to the hotel I looked in the bag for my jewelry. I couldn't find my earrings or bracelet. The manager reviewed all of the footage from the camera in the lobby. Nobody touched my bags. I went back through my bags and found my jewelry. I would be more than happy for a return trip. Very kind and thoughtful staff working in a killer throwback hotel.
We stayed one night, a Sunday, and were so pleased with the hotel. This hotel is adorable and clean. The staff were welcoming and extremely accommodating. I was a bit nervous about the area of the city, however, but I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again. A slight disappointment was that food and drink service was not open Sunday afternoon and evening.
Staff is awesome, pool is heated, paid parking onsite. The rooms are clean, the beds and linens are okay, lots of details to make you feel like they put a lot of effort into curating the experience. The neighborhood is terrible, but overall centrally located enough so that you can get where you need to go. The fact that this hotel is in the TL is not the hotel’s fault, they are doing everything they can to make it a welcoming environment once you are through the gates. We had a room right next to the housekeeping closet that made it difficult to sleep past 7am, but if we stay here again we’ll request a different area of the hotel.
The Phoenix is a jewel of San Francisco, fusing vintage vibes with a modern, cosmopolitan cool. The staff are all super great to even just chat with, the pool is heated, the rooms are funky and comfortable, the radio stays on 89.5 KPOO, the wifi is fast and be sure to hit Saigon Sandwich across the street for the best Bahn Mi in all of SF!
Excellent time at the rock n' roll hotel!!! A wonderfully hip experience on the edge of the Tenderloin district. I great throwback room with cool amenities and superior bar/restaurant. If you are in SF, check it out!!!!
