Hotel Via defines the modern “boutique hotel” experience in San Francisco. The booking process on-line was efficient and intuitive. When I had questions about my accommodations, I was able to reach a live person on the phone at the hotel lobby desk within seconds of calling. Loading and unloading were simple, as the main entrance is located on a side street off the Embarcadero. Generally speaking, the space is able to create a warm feel with a modern design and color scheme. The hotel staff are universally friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The rooms are super clean, exceptionally quiet, and have all the modern amenities. The rooftop bar, Rooftop at Via, with sweeping views of downtown San Francisco, San Francisco Bay, and Oracle Park (home of the San Francisco Giants), is spectacular. The gym is spacious and functional. Bar Via offers a relaxed atmosphere and plenty of food and drink offerings. The location offers easy access to many of San Francisco’s most popular sights and destinations. I will surely be back and recommend Hotel Via to anybody!

Great hotel located directly in front of Oracle Park. Rooms are modern and simple. A little on the small side. Bathroom has a nice tiled walk in shower. Only complaint is that the “barn door” to the bathroom doesn’t fully cover the door so the person in the second bed can see in the bathroom. The staff was very nice and helpful. Rooms are very clean. Love the kiosk and the ability to ask for things without calling. Rooftop bar is nice. Very good location. Parking is a bit expensive at $62 per night but they take good care of your car. We really enjoyed our stay.

We stayed in an Embarcadero queen room for 2 nights and were quite disappointed. First, the lighting cannot be dimmed. You can have bright glaring light all over the room or night reading lights, nothing in between. This is not only unfriendly to paying guests, but environmentally irresponsible. Second, there is no place whatsoever to store folding clothing - no drawers or shelves, only your suitcases (which barely fit in the room). The nightstand between the bed had no drawers and the console under the tv doesn't either. Third, the sliding door to the bathroom has a large frosted glass panel that allows all the light through when your partner gets up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and the door does not completely cover the opening. There is no nightlight. (Why do so called "hip" hotels think that bathroom privacy is not desirable?) Climate control is only through the in-room ipad app. The style of the hotel is lost when guests do not have the most basic needs planned for. What the rooms have in style they completely lack in the designer's understanding of the guest experience. Unfortunately, in this part of SF there is little choice, with the Hyatt not being much better.

I recently stayed here on a business trip. The room was very spacious, modern and clean! Walk in shower was great with its high temperature and pressure capability.

The in room coffee machine was a life line every morning at 5am (jet lag just wouldn’t shift)

The hotel itself was well insulated from busy city sounds meaning a sleep was always easy in its large comfy beds.

I really liked how everything can be controlled by in room tablet. Everything from air conditioning, lights, setting a cleaning schedule and requesting more pillows and coffee. No more awkward moments with the maid walking into you snoring when sleeping in late.

Breakfast was good and changed daily. Plenty of options hot and cold.

Great hotel and would stay here again!

From the moment we walked into the tiny poorly designed lobby to the moment we checked out and asked for an extended checkout, it became clear that this ownership and management group do not understand the big H - Hospitality. No acknowledgement while we waited in line to check in and no waivering on what we were told was: "Our policy is absolutely no late checkouts". Really? These guys are in the wrong business, and should get out if they don't understand how to take care of guests. Also, the design of the rooms and the rooftop lounge are mediocre at best. You've got much better options in SF -- stay away from VIA.

Asked for a room with a view put us in 1204 across from the ballpark and could see a slice of the Bay and the bay Bridge. Clean comfortable room and a Great staff. Thought parking was a bit steep per nite but for convenience and peace of mind can't moan too much. Would stay again and recommend to friends and family.

Entire rooftop bar closed to hotel guests on a game day! :-[
(Reserved for private party.)

The pre and post-game rooftop bar experience and location are the only reasons we stay here on game days. (We live in Sacramento, so close enough to easily drive home.)
It is a convenient location, very friendly staff, but expensive ($500+) for one night of parking and just a simple room. We could stay elsewhere (or home!) if all we needed was a spot to sleep after the game.

We probably aren't the only ones who stay here for the rooftop experience.
So for all of you out there, be forewarned that you may not have access to the roof. Call first to see...wish we had.

This was the absolute worst hotel experience I have had in my life. The staff was incredibly rude and accosting upon check in because they could not "find" our reservation. When they eventually found it they acted like it was our fault and half heartedly gave us a key and said goodluck. The hotel was absolutely empty, which should have told us how horrible of a situation we were getting ourselves in to. Apparently there was a problem with our third party Expedia reservation so the hotel manager accosted us in our room and kept giving us ultimatums if we did not call Expedia and figure it out. I had already given them my credit card and I did not care if I was charged twice. When I refused to figure out the situation that night they immediately got aggressive and started following us around the hotel and waiting outside our door. When I finally went to talk to them, instead of enjoying my saturday night, the manager was incredibly rude. The only nice individual we encountered was the trainee behind the desk. He actually apologized for the rude demeanor of the manager when he walked away. After emailing the general manager, Barbara Perzigian, I knew that this rude demeanor was a common theme throughout. She was harsh, cold, unfriendly, and literally told me that I was lying about my experience. I have never had a worse interaction with the general manager of an establishment. This is the absolute WORST hotel in San Francisco and you should stay away at all costs. The room wasn't even that nice, our view was of the brick building next-door that was 3ft away from us.

Response from Jerry Leap, Marketing at Hotel VIA
Responded 27 Jan 2022
Cole, I'm sorry that you found your experience to be less than satisfactory. I understand that you think that you should have been allowed to check into a room that did not have your name on the reservation but this is a standard safety policy to ensure the security of all of our guests and is common practice in our industry. I'm also sorry that you didn't understand that we could not change, nor refund, a reservation that was made and paid for through a third party (Expedia) and wasn't in your name nor paid for by you. I'm sorry that you got so angry with my staff as they were trying to explain this to you that you didn't understand these policies. My manager tried to accommodate you as best as possible even though you had no reservation and were insisting that he do things that would violate all safety and security protocols. We do our best to make all of our guests feel welcome and comfortable but there are regulations that protect our guests that we will not bend.

This hotel is very nice. Top end amenities, clean and comfortable.

I loved the convenience of the Valet and the ease to enjoy a baseball game then simply cross the street to my beautifully appointed room.

The rooftop bartender was very kind and attentive. The views are OK, but it is a very comfortable setting with cabanas and heaters.

The staff throughout were fantastic and efficient.

The only ding I might consider is that the area is a little isolated from many restaurants etc., but I will plead some ignorance as I am not familiar with the area. I did find some decent bars/food options not far, but not many.

No...I have stayed there a couple of time and to the best of my knowledge, none of the rooms have balconies. But the top floor is an incredible open air lounge / bar, which looks out at AT&T Park, the Embarcadero, the city and the bay. Incredible views at night, and a great place to hang out.

Yes, they can park your car for you. The cost is $55 per night and you have in and out privileges. Or you can self park because there are parking lots next to the hotel and behind the hotel.

Thanks for your interest in Hotel VIA! We are very excited to bring a new brand of hospitality to South Beach, San Francisco. Unfortunately we will not have any roll away beds on property at Hotel VIA. We do have adjoining rooms that have one king bed and two queen size beds, or a South Beach Suite that has a king size bed and a pull out sofa bed. If you have any further questions or if there is anything else I can assist you with at this time please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Best Regards, Jerry Leap
