With top notch freediving/snorkeling right out in sharks cove and world class breaks up and down the north shore, the location is unbeatable. Plus there’s a grocery store and several great food trucks next door. Dorm accommodations are modest, don’t appear to get too much love from the staff (especially the showers), but had a great group of people there and loved it. Definitely felt younger than hostels on other islands, would highly recommend to friends (in early/mid 20s)

A budget stay in Hawaii is unheard of but here, that’s what you get. And in a killer location! Loads of options from dorm beds to small private rooms to entire cottages. We stayed in a private room with 4 beds and had access to the communal kitchen and living area. Kitchen was equipped and clean, living area wasn’t used. Check-in was easy even coming in after hours but if you are afraid of the dark or don’t know how to read maps, don’t do that.
Location: across the street from 3 Tables Beach. Not the most gentle waters, but if you’re a good swimmer, a phenomenal place to swim and see cool sea life. Less than a 5 minute walk away, the very calm Shark’s Cove for snorkeling and wading. No need to swim, you can stand with the fishes haha. And a 5 minute walk from a grocery store for restocking on POG juice!
Bonus: they lend you umbrellas, chairs, snorkel equipment, you name it!

This type of accommodation was different for me, but I really wanted this location. The bedroom was small but clean. We enjoyed visiting with the other guests. Our cabin had four private bedrooms with one bathroom. The cabin had a huge deck that was great for listening to the ocean waves. One negative was that the cabin developed an unpleasant smell when it rained. I was also surprised at how busy the road was between the cabin and ocean was.

The owner is a mean woman. They don't allow you to stay for long under the argument that they don't want people to move to Hawaii. One of the guys at the main reception told me that the hostel is for the use of young travelers not for older people. The place is one of the only hostels in the área so there aren't too many choices. The location is nice and I met some nice travelers, but the beds are very uncomfortable and it's kind of like camping. In general, you could crash there for a night or two but wouln't recommend any longer. I wish the administration was less ignorant.

I recently stayed in the newly renovated cabin 9 in the ‘village’ at Backpackers Hostel. I’ve claimed it as my second home and I hope no one has mistreated it since. The hostel is a 5 second walk from 3 tables beach and 5 minutes from the famous Waimea beach. This place is a surfers paradise and as a lad from London who can’t surf to save his life, it’s a paradise for anyone. I made great friends with all the staff and would recommend this place to anyone visiting Oahu/ Hawaii. I planned to stay for 3 night but ended up staying for 12 and that’s credit to the friends I made, the staff, the amazing location and my second home- cabin 9.

Worst experience ever in a Hostel. Me and my friend booked 2 night and when we arrive to cabin we decided to leave it immediately and book another place even with the extra costs. I couldn’t never sleep in a place like that. The cabins are dirty and the kitchen is old and not in good conditions. There are huge gaps in the cabin wood so we saw lots of geckos inside the cabin. There are mosquitoes as well. We only stayed 30min and I got bitten 3 times. If you are looking for a relaxing, clean and friendly environment with the minimum human conditions to stay over night please don’t book this hostel. And the reception office closes at 5pm, no assistance provided after that time.

Stayed here for two weeks, time went too fast, great friendly staff, great view & sound of the surf. Surf was great, some days snorkel with the turtles & beautiful fish, other days enjoy the surf, perfect mix, drinks on the verandah watching the smashing surf & roar of the ocean. Off street parking Close, walk to shops

Immaculate, large room in the Beach House was worth paying extra for. Balcony overlooked fantastic coral reef for snorkeling - besides swimming. Full kitchen was unexpected amenity. Lovely hand painted wall murals and windows on three sides. Never needed fans. Gorgeous Waimea Valley park is nearby for botanical garden and waterfall walk. The neighborhood is quiet. I give it five stars because the website description was honest and it delivered everything it promised. Some people may not like that the decor is outdated, but I absolutely loved it. Cleanliness is what counts for me. The people in the office were wonderful to deal with. Even loaned us flippers for snorkeling. The hostel has different living situations. We stayed in a private room with a private kitchen and bathroom. I can’t review the areas that had shared amenities. Extra info: if you want shops and restaurants, Haleiwa is nearby. We recommend the Beach House restaurant in Haleiwa.

An ahhhmazing place to stay! For a great real Hawaiian, north shore experience, stay here. Incredible! Now, if you want puff and fluff, move on. I recommend to rent the back house, rent the whole 3rd floor! OMG!, I’m smiling as I write this. Yes, Gecos are in n the house, it’s open, soooo what! Walk to best beaches, food trucks, snorkeling etc. It’s clean, hot water, great water pressure. I’ll go back!

Stayed here for 5 nights, 1am check in and 4.30am checkout, no problems! Clean room (backpacker shabby-chic) we stayed across the road from the reception/main building so our balcony was right at the beach. Loved hearing the waves from bed. Didn't enjoy the roosters so much lol! Would look to stay here if we ever get back to Oahu
