Nestled in a tranquil, scenic spot, Aston Mahana at Kaanapali boasts a serene and inviting atmosphere, with many guests commending its convenient access to local attractions and beautiful ocean views. While opinions on service and value show some inconsistency, with reports of both friendly staff and instances of unhelpfulness, travelers consistently praise the hotel's room amenities and the stunning vistas they offer, including whale sightings.
However, some have noted that the decor could use refreshing and have raised concerns about cleanliness. Amenities like well-equipped kitchens add to the appeal, making it a popular choice among visitors seeking both comfort and a prime location.

We had a wonderful stay in Mahana 1107. The views cannot be beat!!! We saw turtles from our lanai every day and the sunsets were gorgeous.
The Mahana isn’t a resort and is probably more suited to adults than young children, but as a result it is quiet and was perfect for a couples escape. We cannot imagine staying anywhere else in Maui and are anxious to return next year.
There are two ways to stay at the Mahana – book through Aston/Costco/Expedia and get assigned a unit at check in or book through VRBO/Airbnb/property manager and choose your own unit ahead of time. Each unit is individually owned so there is great variation in the furnishings and style of each unit. There are upsides and downsides to each approach, but we prefer being able to choose a unit with the specific amenities we want and knowing if we will get an updated unit. The potential downside to renting a specific unit is that if something goes wrong, Aston Mahana cannot just move you into a different unit. Travel insurance is extra important if booking a specific unit.
If you will be traveling to the Mahana in 2024 or 2025 please be aware of the construction project going on (roofing and HVAC). We were in the Molokai tower (not the one currently being worked on) and did not experience any construction noise or problems from the project currently happening in the Lanai tower. That is not a guarantee that there won't be noise or dust in the coming weeks as the project moves along, but we heard nothing over 10 days, so it certainly isn't a constant. I would recommend avoiding the Lanai tower (units ending in 11-19) until the AC is functional again and no more hot water interruptions. They are scheduled to do the same repairs to the Molokai tower (units ending in 01-09) next year so if you are booking a specific unit do your homework and find out if you will be impacted before your stay.
Finally, our unit was very clean and we had no pest issues. We did take the garbage out each night as recommended (and our unit included enough garbage bags to do so) and made sure not to leave out food and clean up any spills promptly. I was a little concerned given recent reviews but I am happy to report I did not see any bugs during our 10 day stay.

Aston Mahana was a beautiful place to stay! It was refreshing to wake up to the ocean view or relax on the lanai, watching sunsets or stargazing. Loved that the beach was accessible and there was a walking path that connects to the resorts. It was easy to get to stores and restaurants. Pleasant staff & comfortable accommodations made it an exceptional vacation. It was an enjoyable place where we were able to relax and soak in the Aloha spirit. Simply memorable. Mahalo!

Wonder of wonders the apartment is beautiful in Japanese style , the kitchen has every utensil servant and perhaps more has washer and dryer and the overcomfortable bed (two very useful bathrooms) overlooking the garden with a breathtaking ocean view with magnificent sunsets. Certainly for the rest would need a serious Restailing given also the amount paid , fairly ridiculous pool non-existent services and cleaning not included . Beautiful sea with endless beach and turtles included. Convenient market and parking ditto.

We arrived in the evening, when we discovered our studio, we were disappointed (studio 303 on the 3rd floor). It was like an American set in the '70s. Carpeted floor, old furniture, bed that rises vertically in a wardrobe... not to mention cleanliness! A layer of dust was present in several places. Having paid 400€/night (we stayed there 3 nights) we returned to the reception showing the dirt and explaining that the photos on the internet did not reflect reality. The friendly receptionist offered to visit another studio (903 on the 9th floor), this one was less worse. Less dirty, less old, tiled floor and real king size bed. It is not a super modern studio but everything is there (fridge, ice cubes, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, stove, microwave, tv, wifi and again this typical American capsule coffee machine that works 1x2). We believe these are private apartments, with personal belongings in them, put up for rent. The next day when we woke up, it’s true that all our little worries the day before were forgotten when we saw the view from the balcony on the 9th floor! AMAZING, breathtaking! It even shows turtles swimming in the sea. The rest of the establishment is ok, the pool functional but small, with jacuzzi, toilet, showers... very convenient when you fly back at the end of the day. We had a late check out (1pm). Located in a quiet area of the island, some beautiful hotels nearby and a super nice square filled with food trucks, easy on foot but a car is essential to move around. Finally, it is not really possible to settle on the beach right in front of the Pension but a few meters away, the beach is beautiful where snorkeling is inevitable, a real aquarium. In short, you clearly pay for the view and the surrounding beach.

We are checking out tomorrow after a wonderful stay at Aston mahana! So many positives; let me list them all!
First, I would 100% recommend requesting and paying the small amount extra for an ocean view room. We are staying in room 703 and have the most incredible view of the ocean which includes almost constant sightings of the humpback whales (who will shortly be making their way back up north) and the turtles who are right below our window. It’s magical watching them.
The rooms are so well equipped and meant we saved money here as we didn’t need to eat out for every meal. A huge fridge freezer, great cooking facilities and lots of crockery/utensils etc.
The hotel is in a really quiet location but within walking distance to a few of the other hotel bars so meant we were never disturbed by noise.
The pool is great, as is the hot tub and there is a supermarket as well as quite a few other shops across the road so you can stock up on anything you need.
The beds are really comfy, there is a washing machine and dryer as well as supplied washing powder (which was great as this was the 3rd leg of our trip so we did need to do some washing)
The only thing I would say is that our balcony didn’t have an outside light which would have made sitting out later into the evening easier. So maybe bring a small camping light with you if like us, you like to sit out on the balcony on an evening.
Thank you for a wonderful stay

We were informed on the website that we booked on (Expedia) that there is "Housekeeping (on request)." We travel at least once a month outside of the city, and we frequently see this language being used at various motels/hotels. What this means is that when Housekeeping is requested, it is provided. That is NOT the case as the Aston Mahana. We landed on a Wednesday, and we went straight to the beach. Hey, what else do you do in Maui? For a two bedroom, two bathroom Oceanfront suite that sleeps at least 4-6 people, with a full kitchen and deck to space--we'd think here would be more thought into housekeeping services. We asked during Check In to have the room cleaned daily, and were were flatly refused because "they don't have housekeeping." We showed them the language on the website, and they indicated they do not have enough staff to do housekeeping, so they require 24 hour notice to plan housekeeping. Well, we called Thursday for Friday. And Friday for Saturday. In a period of 7 days, 6 nights, we were able to get service done ONLY ONCE.
The services at the hotel were so bad, that when the toilet got clogged in suite, we decided to only use the kid's bathroom.
If I wanted zero service, I would have booked at the Air BnB or VRBO. This is strictly false advertising, and we expect to get our money back for poor to not service. To add to the injury, they insisted on charging us a "resort fee" for amenities. Which amenities...???? I would hope they use the extra resort funding to procure staff and provide housekeeping like they've falsely advertised.

This place (unit 717) has a great view of the ocean as soon as you walk in; with large windows in the family room facing the ocean. The lanai allows you to have a fabulous meal facing and hearing the ocean waves. The king bed is very comfy with wonderful cooling sheets on the bed (the bedroom connects to the lanai so you can hear the ocean while laying in bed - a wonderful experience). The kitchen really is fully stocked with pots, pans, seasonings, etc. There is a clothes washer and dryer in the unit, so you can bring less clothes and do your laundry there. There is a nice step-in shower (no bathtub), and the rooms have wonderful ceiling fans (there is also heating and A/C). The owners are just a text or phone call away and they answered our questions very promptly. Just a wonderful unit to rent.

Wow, what an amazing resort for my family to enjoy the New Year. We recently stayed over the New Year week with our kids and found this was an excellent place to land. The rooms were well decorated, comfortable and clean. We would spend our early mornings with the coffee provided, enjoying the splashing of whales on the horizon and turtles in the reef in front of the resort. Each morning we were met with rainbows day after day. The Aston Mahana had everything we needed and more. It was steps away from food trucks, shops and restaurants which made the location very helpful to grab something quickly if needed. We were able to meander down the beach in the evenings and in the afternoons enjoyed reading on chase lounges hearing the waves crashing on the shore. We stayed in rooms 613 and 614, which made it convenient to be with our adult daughters but gave us all the space we needed. The accommodations made this a special trip for our family and we appreciate the helpful staff and beautiful place to relax, unwind and make memories.

Excellent staff, the best views from every single room ( floor to cieling windows). Beds and bedding need upgrading Our unit seemed to have been renovated but not very modern. The finishings are done cheaply unfortunately There was construction when we were there so made for noisy mornings ( 8 or 8:30am very very loud noises making it impossible to sleep in) Thankfully we made it a routine to take walks at that time given sleeping-in wasn't an option Room cleanliness was average and they only service the rooms every 4 days. No biggie but good to know. They gave you anything you needed in between(soaps, towels..etc) We keep going back because of the views but the prices are starting to become ridiculously high for the quality of the room and lack of hotel amenities. In fairness, that could just be Hawaii or Maui in particular I wish they had a nicer pool/pool area. Also you can't use the beach in front of the hotel but the beach in front of the Westin (about a 5min walk on the boardwalk) is excellent. We were lucky that our unit had some old beach chairs we could bring to the beach but I hear you can rent some excellent ones somewhere in Lahaina for about 4$/day

We had another wonderful experience at the Mahana on this trip. We stayed here back in 2020 at one of the two bedroom premium condos, and on this trip in 2024 booked one of the standard one bedroom condos. Both condos were wonderful, although the two bedroom condo was really great (which is to be expected). We love this location with the views of the ocean, and the lush green vegetation and palm trees throughout the grounds. We will for sure be staying here again on our next vacation to Maui.

Aloha Malini! We stayed at the Aston Mahana a few months ago and construction was occurring at the time of our visit. However, we did not hear anything the whole 12 days we were there and although construction equipment was evident around the building, there was ZERO inconvenience from it. It is a beautiful property with spectacular ocean views, so enjoy your trip! You won’t be disappointed.
In July it was minimal and front side only. We never had any issues with noise in the condo, lanai, or grass area. And we spent a lot of time outside.
It’s a great condo and the front staff were excellent- I’m sure they can help you plan around any heavy construction times.
There are more places to choose from in the Lahaina area.
