stayed here for a week with my family. the condo was beautiful and such great attention to detail with the interior design. our balcony was a lovely place to sit where we had a fabulous view of the ocean. had a few struggles with getting in with the key but overall a wonderful experience. the pool area was also always quiet so if you like peace and alone time it’s the place to be.

I did a lot of research before booking at Kulakane. I wanted a small, quiet vacation renal complex, right on the beach with a full kitchen because I wanted to be able to cook meals. This fit the bill in every way without breaking the bank. I wasn't looking for luxury accommodations or resort amenities.
I stayed in unit 207 and couldn't have been happier with the accommodations. I had a full ocean view and my rental was literally steps from the beach so I was lulled to sleep every night by the sound of the waves. In the morning, after waking up to the sound of a rooster announcing the beginning of a new day, I ate breakfast on the lanai as I watched rainbows appear over the ocean. For me, it was the epitome of paradise. The location is convenient for exploring the island, but getting a rental car is a good idea.
There was no AC but that didn't bother me. Fans kept it very comfortable. I don't usually stay at the same location twice, but I would definitely stay here again.

Unit 209 at The Kulakane. What a lovely spacious place. It is a great location with fabulous views of the ocean. Being on the second floor was great for letting in the sounds of the ocean yet still having privacy. It appears the unit has been mostly remodeled. Everything looks fresh, clean and modern. The queen bed was very comfortable plus there was a murphy bed in the family room for extra guests or for sleeping close to the ocean. The walk-in shower was wonderful. It was nice to have chairs to use at the numerous beaches close by. Nick and Ashley made great recommendations of things to do and places to eat. Debbie was very welcoming and helpful if we needed anything. Toni was spot on keeping the place nice looking all the time. We will definitely stay here again.

We have stayed in unit 307 many times. The views are beyond belief! You can see whales, dolphin, turtles, and an occasional ray all while sitting on your private lanai! It close to ABC stores, and a grocery store. Food trucks, and our favorite "Bad Ass Coffee". We are headed back in a few weeks and know the complex is under construction. We were sent notices before booking. It won't be the same, but we'll still love being there and can't wait to see it completed for our next visit. Last visit was May of 2021 and as always the place is clean and comfortable, well stocked. This is a third floor unit and has amazing views of Molokai and Lanaii. I can't wait to get back! We booked through Maui Paradise Properties and they were great to work with. We liked being able to check ourselves in with all the Covid worries.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful condo, The Kulakane #310. The ocean views are breathtaking. Mornings, lounging with coffee in the open air lanai at the surfboard, whale watching, with Hawaiian music, set the tone each day. The panoramic view, enjoying cocktails at sunset cannot be beat. The amenities are plentiful, the bedding superb, and the fans moved the air, keeping the space comfortable. The shopping and restaurants are plentiful in the area, within a mile or two. It’s incredible what the owners have done here. Love, Love, Love It!! We can’t wait to return.

This is my wife and I’s first time in Maui, and we are absolutely loving it. Our stay at Kulakane makes this even more spectacular. This condo is clean and comfortable, and having bbq our New Years dinner here left us with an experience we will cherish. While cooking we were greeted by so many “Happy New Years” and visited with some amazing people also staying here while cooking their own dinner. To top it off we have coffee and breakfast every morning in our balcony, and enjoyed watching whales swim by New Year’s Eve. After editing this pic a bit I sent it to some friends, and I enjoyed their banter about how I’m just back home in Canada sending google pics to convince them I’m here. I highly recommend this location as a great home base for your vacation. Aloha!

Positives: the view, the view, and the view. The sound of the ocean and location.
Negatives: there are too many negatives in this unit to even leave a list. I don’t consider myself an expert, but we have rented many places inside the US as well as abroad. This is not someone’s beloved home that they are sharing with you. This is someone’s Cash cow—do as little as possible, just enough to rent it out. The kitchen is so poorly equipped, It is even difficult to put together a simple meal. It is a mishmash of pots and pans and utensils many of which are not even useful. Any improvements since it was built have been kept to a bare minimum. You pay a cleaning fee but it is not clean. There are nice units for rent in this complex, but this is not one of them. Keep looking.

Response from sassygirl2011, Public Relations Manager at Kulakane
Responded 26 Feb 2020
We are so glad you enjoyed the Kulakane property but are sad to hear about your experience with Unit 304. Unlike most of our condos, this unit is independently managed. Guests who book through us can view each of our units in advance, and be assured that they are well furnished and well equipped. Please do come back and stay in another unit in the future!

Have stayed in 309 and 209 and loved our amazing views from the lanai being right on the ocean. We watched whales from our lanai in January and sea turtles swim just past the seawall everyday. Each unit is individually owned so some are really updated and modern just got to pick the right units. Love the feel of the property. Good mix of owners, repeat guests, and new guests make the pool and common areas a real melting pot. Lots of new people coming to kulakane and it’s more family friendly then before. There is a small pool, lots of chairs and loungers to lay out and small beaches on each side of property. Great beach just down the road. Grocery store, restaurants and coffee shop within 1/4 mile. On site Managers Tony and Debbie are the best. These units Do not have ac but you don’t need it being ocean front with all the sliders and windows open 24/7 I wanted to feel the ocean breeze, lots of indoor / outdoor space from the living room to the lanai. Nothing like falling asleep to the sound of the ocean 40 feet away. Washer and dryers down stairs, free parking and high speed Internet. Feels safe and comfortable here for me and my family.

Went out and spent a week with my family at the Kulakane #209. The staff was so friendly with my kids and really made them feel at home the second we got there. I could not believe the views. The unit is just steps to the beach. Great look at the sunset from the patio every night. The unit itself was 2 units wide and the whole one side of the unit is all windows to take in all the views. The inside of the unit had been remodeled and felt so clean and comfortable. We would go back in a second! We had the time of our lives!

The unit is not managed by the resort, but by Maui Paradise Properties . It has a beautiful- spectacular- view , but the afternoon sun and it’s glare can make the lanai uncomfortable. There were no cutting boards in the kitchen, but three were delivered the next day, after a phone call. No response from the managers for a broken screen door , a broken toaster, or for a change of towels during a 12 day trip. No washer/dryer in unit . Coin-op at office. No dining table in unit, although one was shown in the promotional photos, which made the unit look nicer than it is. No lighting on the lanai . TINY pool . Very good supply of coffee filters . As always, our family had a wonderful time in Hawaii.

Congrats you will love Maui (I think it is better than Oahu, IMHO).
Although the shore line is not typical beach (rocky) you will see lots of folks enjoying the ocean (snorkeling, paddle boarding, floating in the waves) along the Kulakane's ocean front and neighboring properties. Snorkeling is probably the most popular thing to do along the ocean front. There are plenty of turtles that live just off shore. There is ocean gear rental very close so that should not be a problem.
Beaches abound in Maui so I doubt you will have a difficult time finding one that suits you if the condos ocean front doesn't meet your liking. Any decent travel book will help you locate them.
As far as local attractions you are very close to just about everything in West Maui like Kaanapali, Kapalua, and Lahaina attractions. The location of the condo should not inhibit you from enjoying any attraction on Maui. If we are planning a trip to Haleakala, the R2H, or just about anything else on the other side of the island we always plan to give ourselves a few extra minutes of travel time.
Enjoy your time in Maui. Aloha!

Hi Edward, it really depends on what is important to you! First floor units have direct access to the pool and ocean from the condo lanai. They also stay a bit cooler during the warmest months. The second and third floor units have more privacy ,and the view looks down over the ocean. Either way, you will love it!
There are more places to choose from in the Lahaina area.
