The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka'anapali, is often celebrated for its impeccable cleanliness and vibrant atmosphere, featuring live music and inviting fire pits. While the hotel boasts a prime beachfront location near Whalers Village, some guests find the rooms smaller than expected and have had mixed experiences with service. The amenities, including various pools and easy beach access, are popular, though opinions on value suggest that some travelers find the costs for extras and services to be high.

Nice hotel, but not quite the luxury experience they project from the website. We had a 1 br suite in the Hokupa’a tower. We got a corner room on the Whalers Village side of the building. Do not - repeat - DO NOT accept a room on that side. It is loud, cooking smells from the restaurants come into the room, and the delivery trucks at 4:30 am just are not it. Unpleasant to sit on the very nice balcony, damn near impossible if the restaurant next door is grilling - whew! The room itself is fine, but there were no pillows or blankets for the sofa bed, which we needed. They were delivered by housekeeping pretty quickly, though. Speaking of housekeeping, my teen daughter was taking a shower in the room alone with the do not disturb sign on the door. Despite this, housekeeping just walked in anyway. She was able to grab a robe and tell the staff member to please come back later. That’s pretty unacceptable.

Restaurants were okay - tourist food. Drinks are decent. Prices are high, but that’s everywhere. Pool/beach services are very good - the attendants are right there when needed and they’re so pleasant. The Lanai lounge was fair. Very dark, very few available snacks, and they appear to get everything from Costco. Again, staff is great.

The hotel is okay, but you definitely do not get what you pay for. Stay at the Hyatt instead - much nicer for the same money.

The view was great from our room in the 9th floor. We enjoyed the balcony.
However the pools areNOT heated except for the adult hot pools. Very few people even using the regular pools bc they are so cold.
But our biggest struggle is the lack of accessibility. You cannot get to the upper pools in a wheelchair with out going in the elevator and exiting on the 2nd floor. The lower pools one only has a lift and no stairs to walk in and to get to the other 2 larger pools you have to go up a steep incline which takes some muscle to push someone up and to leave you have to back down to be safe. Only one place to get towels which means if you are on the upper level you have to take the elevator down to the towel shack and then Back up to the upper pools. My husband had been dreaming of this trip for 2 years and all the magical pools and In The end found it very difficult to enjoy and honestly I am exhausted from pushing the chair.

Not sure how I feel about our trip with our family of seven. We got to the resort super late because we had 2 delayed flights. My husband is a Platinum-soon to be Titanium- Marriott Bonvoy Elite member. We had requested 2 connected rooms or at least close”. We got rooms on the 7th and 11th. Typically we get nice upgrades like a Partial or Full ocean view room-but nope, they don’t do that here. At check-in, I asked if there’s a lounge with coffee/etc. like other Marriott properties and she insisted that they don’t have that here. Typically we get access to a lounge with quick bites, but nope I was told they don’t have that here. They told me to keep coming back and trying. I was relentless and kept coming back to ask for a better room. Finally 2 days later we were able to snag an ocean view room (should be called half/partial ocean view) in the Ho’okupa tower (for a hefty difference in price) which is the only tower that has access to the Lanai lounge that I had no idea about. The Lanai lounge has small bites for breakfast and dinner and snacks/coffee/drinks throughout the day. I’m kind of annoyed by the treatment we got at this resort. Since we had 2 rooms, some of us were excluded from the Lanai because we didn’t have the other room in the Ho’okupa tower.
This is not what we are used to at all. I understand the hotel was at capacity but we reserved back in September. Treatment was completely unfair and not typical for Marriott Bonvoy. They sometimes made us feel completely inadequate. As far as the hotel itself, it’s okay. Rooms are nice, not the best we’ve stayed at. There’s a Mahele Market for coffee and breakfast items. Whaler’s village is next door which has tons of shops, some restaurants, and nice to walk at night. We have also stayed at the Maui Ocean Na’nea villas and I’d say that this resort has more dining options nearby and better pools. Not sure I’d stay here again after the treatment we received. Next time we will stay somewhere in Wailea!

Unfortunately we had a terrible experience and it hasn’t even been a full day yet.

I had emailed the resort a couple months prior to my trip to let them know that I will be coming with my two kids and husband to celebrate my daughter’s first birthday and if they do anything special for it (which every hotel I’ve stayed at has always done something nice). They emailed back saying that they have acknowledged it and noted both of our kids names down. We also requested for an updated room since it seems like they were going through renovations and what not and they said they will make note of that! We are also Marriott bonvoy members and booked through them! We were hoping to get a decent service at least!

When we got there - We asked for a possible upgrade but they said that they don’t have any available at the moment so we let that go. The kids were irritated from the long travel and we were hungry.

When we checked in - the room was so underwhelming. Very small rooms and pretty outdated. Did not give us a microwave either when we had requested for it two months ago. We needed it to warm up our kids milk. They are little so it was a must for us when booking a hotel.

When we were unpacking, two of the drawers had clothes in them from previous clients! One had men’s underwear and the other had a bunch of women’s clothing. They obviously did not thoroughly clean the room! We had booked the superior room with high floor and ocean view - the view was breathtaking to say the least. We went down to complain about it and all they offered was for someone to come and claim the clothes. We told them that we wanted a different room that has been properly cleaned and would like an upgraded room as well. They decided to finally move us to the “ luxury” tour but when we looked at the view, it was the view of a parking lot! I originally paid for an ocean view which our old room had and decided to move back to that room and gave up on trying to make them understand since we had a long day of travel of over 12 hours! We originally wanted to order takeout and bring it to the room but we did not want to stay in here hoping they would change the room but the whole process was just terrible so we ended up dining at the restaurant in the hotel with two very tired and cranky kids.

Their website also said they had a supervised kids club which is one of the reasons we booked it but when we got here they no longer had it! I really wish we had booked a different hotel at this point. Our entire moods have been super off because of our experience with them.

I recently stayed at the Westin Maui Resort & Spa for five nights and had an excellent time with my fiancé. The resort is packed with fun and entertaining amenities, convenient restaurants and bars, and a very cool pool area with waterslide. If you are staying in this area of Maui mostly to go to the beach or sit by the pool then you will not be disappointed with the Westin. The location is right on Ka’anapali Beach so you can step directly on the sand. For the price, which is very expensive, I was extremely happy with the beachfront views and interesting pathways and sights. I was happy with the King bedroom I reserved and even though I did not have an ocean view I really enjoyed the garden view that overlooked the nearby golf course and had the mountains in the background. The room was very clean and the bed and bath areas were great. I did think the room was a smidgen too small but it did not negatively effect my trip in the slightest. I really liked the bedding and mattress. My fiancé thought the room could have had better soundproofing because you could hear noises in the hallways easily. The shower in the bathroom was modern and great to use but is loud and might wake people up. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food that we ordered from the Hale Moʻolelo was pretty good both the takeout and dine in. We appreciated that the Hale Mo’olelo was open late. There is often live music and we were very impressed with one of the singers during our dinner meal. I did not get a chance to try the fancier restaurant or their market & eatery. I got drinks from the poolside bar and the Hale Mo’olelo and they were always made great tasting and strong with booze. One of the best parts was the lobby of the resort which had a gigantic coy fish pond with lots of real flamingos just hanging out. There is also three larges cages with parrots and cockatoos for the guests to enjoy viewing. The resort has little events going on all the time. My fiancé was able to have a parrot walk on her head from the animal trainer and often employees would be handing out freshly cut fruit or putting on a free coconut weaving classes. The Westin has a sidewalk the follows the length of the beach past other resorts and is a fantastic walk to start the morning. There is also a shopping mall directly next door in walking distance. Parking was $45 a day for self parking but at least the parking garage was very close and easy to get to quickly. I would definitely recommend this resort to my friends and family. I thought it was worth the expensive price to maximize the experience.

The Westin Maui Resort & Spa on beautiful Ka’anapali beach was amazing. We went here to celebrate my wife’s birthday and we stayed in the Hokupa’a Tower, which was great. Caroline at the Front Desk was very helpful. Caroline went above and beyond to make sure that our check-in experience went very smoothly. We were given wristbands that gave us access to our room and that was much more convenient than carrying around the normal key cards. The room was great, we had a view of the beach and the pools. We could hear the ocean waves as we fell asleep. The beach is beautiful and there are a number of different pools to enjoy. Right next door is Whaler’s Village which has very nice shopping and a lot of very good restaurants that are right on the water – be sure to try the Hula Pie! We definitely recommend the Hale Ho'omalu pool cabana, it is very much worth the extra expense. The Westin’s Luau was also very fun. As Platinum Members, we highly recommend this resort that has something for everyone. The staff and service were exceptional. We can't wait to return.

We spent three nights at the Westin Resort and Spa Kāʻanapali and had a lovely time overall. While it doesn’t quite match the resort experience we had at Wailea Beach Resort (where we stayed for the first half of our trip), it’s still a great place to stay with its own unique charm.

Location and Atmosphere
The location is super convenient, with easy access to the expansive Ka'anapali beaches and dining options. The property itself is beautiful, especially the lobby with the waterfall, seating area, and surrounding resort area. The cozy fire pits dotted around the grounds add a nice touch in the evenings.

Pools and Amenities
The pools are nice overall, but the pool experience we had at our prior resort set a super high bar for us. The semi-warm sand-bottom infinity pool is lovely and has a unique charm, but it’s fairly small and chairs nearby are often full. While the resort has several pools, finding shade was a challenge. There are very few umbrellas, and those that exist aren’t movable. One day, after we finally found an available umbrella, someone came around to close it due to wind—which was frequent during our stay. I’m not sure if it’s always that windy, but it did make lounging by the pool a bit less relaxing at times. The beach access is incredible though. But I might rent yourself a couple beach chairs and an umbrella from a snorkel bob's or something if you don't want to pay the ~$75/day to have the hotel set up loungers and an umbrella for you.

Poolside service was limited, with just one woman walking around for most the days we were there. That said, the bartender went out of his way to make my pregnant wife a fantastic mocktail with her drink coupon from check-in, which I really appreciated.

Rooms
We stayed in a second-floor room with direct pool access, which was super convenient. While it wasn’t a high-floor room with expansive views, we loved the easy pool access. If you value a great view, you might want to consider a higher room.

Dining and Convenience
The food on the property was very good, and there are plenty of nearby dining options, which added to the convenience. We also grabbed a few groceries, which helped keep things simple for breakfasts and snacks.

Overall Experience
The Westin Kāʻanapali is a very nice resort that we enjoyed. It has beautiful grounds, great pools, and solid dining options, but it’s a bit less of a “resort experience” compared to other places we’ve stayed on Maui. If you're traveling around the island a lot and have a lot of activities planned, you'll be happy with this as your home base. If you are planning to post up by the pool or beach for most of your trip, this resort would probably not be my first choice.

Incredible stay. The staff were out of this world and made this trip magical for my family of 3, we can for a little getaway and to celebrate our daughter turning 9. The staff from parking, check in, and dining were OVER THE TOP accommodating and truly want you to enjoy your time. Cai, at the front desk made sure my daughter felt special from the second we stepped foot in the resort, she even arranged an in room surprise for her actual bday, with a hand written postcard. They have activities in the lobby, birds, song/dance performances, and even fish feeding. Kids pool (with two slides) and an adults only side. The beds are comfortable, they even come with lavender spray if you’d like to use it. Tip, they give you two reusable water bottles in your room and they have water filling stations everywhere on property (bring your hydro flask) . Small refrigerator in the room, so plan to eat out every meal or bring non perishable snacks. Every on property eating option we tried were great and had kids options (Wiacoco, Mo Olelo, and Monkey Pod) keep in mind you will be spending a minimum of $120 each meal (2 adults and 1 child) unless of course you have status upgrades with your credit card. Excellent place for a family vacation or adult get away. This property and staff create a special, over the top memorable experience for everyone of its guests. We will be back again and again!

I have actually come to this hotel several times before. Back in the late 90’s to early2010’s it was one of our favorite resorts mainly due to the beautiful views and location. The hotel still has great views, but on our past 3 trips, we have had multiple problems with billing issues and incorrect rooms among other issues. The last time we were here, the customer service manager asked me to reach out to her personally before my stay to insure they took care of us. I am a Titanium member as well and this trip we were only staying one night.

Once again, huge disappointment on checkin. I only asked for a 4pm checkout and an upgrade to a nicer room (both should have been given with my benefits anyway). The person I had emailed confirmed both would be ok a month ago. Upon arriving, they told me I had to check out by noon and that the person I had been speaking with was no longer at the hotel. I escalated to a manager who said the hotel was almost at capacity and he would grant me a 2pm checkout. Since we were only here 1 day, the 4pm was necessary to enjoy the pools and not rush. The manager said another guest was moving into my room so it could not be extended. I pulled up the app and showed him that I could book 10 different room types for the next 2 nights which would insure no one was moving into that room. He said he would be happy to sell me one. As a Titanium guest who stays multiple times a year at Bonvoy hotels, this was very upsetting. Obviously customer service is gone at this hotel.

Excellent staff, beautiful rooms and amazing amenities. This is a five star resort. We made a couples trip to Maui the week prior to Christmas in December 2024.
This was our first time in Maui and we are so grateful that we selected this property. As a Marriott Bonvoy Lifetime gold member we were able to upgrade our room to a premium ocean view and it was worth the additional cost.
We were surprised and very impressed with how friendly the staff were and how accommodating they were to our needs. The poolside bars and restaurant dining facilities were impeccable, and the food and drinks were excellent.
On the last night of our stay, we participated in the luau festival at the Westin, and the show was incredible. It was professionally choreographed and full of adventure. The luau buffet was top-notch as well as the included cocktails.
I hope that we can fit a trip back to the Westin Kaanapali resort and spa again next year.

Yes, but unless you want an absolutely horrible experience, do not accept a room in the Ocean Tower. It is dated and filthy.
