We absolutely love Maui Kai. It has the best view possible for a reasonable price( on Maui). There is only a sidewalk/sea wall separating the building from the ocean. This year we noticed both sides of the sea wall now have access to the beach beyond. So there is little beach directly in front, but just to the sides. We rented through vrbo that was represented by another service. My perfect stays. Using these services was $900 more in fees and cleaning than if we had rented direct from Maui Kai. The room we wanted was already booked so in desperation we went to vrbo. The view was stunning, but our unit had no closet space, but 4 hangers in a hall closet. No safe. No luggage rack. Lots of utensils including several weird ones that made us quite curious. One of our party has cooked in restaurants so we aren’t naive. It looked as if an estate sale drawer had been left there. The stays service did respond immediately and brought us hangers which we appreciated. The furnishings were lovely. But being a condo rental there is NO service. Not even towels. They did have 2 beach towels. Lots of notes up about taking care of things and being sure to report breakage. Perhaps they have been burned. But I’m sitting in a Napili condo right now and see none of that- just wash your sand off. Oh and exchange your beach towels daily if you want. We tried to speak to the M K front desk about renting next year and a woman rudely cut me off and told me to go to the web site. When I did call the woman i spoke to was in the office. Apparently not the rude one as she was sweet and even called the owners of the unit we were hoping for to secure it for us! Rating 4 because the value wasn’t there. We have stayed here before And will again, but not through vrbo. The highlight- a monk seal on the beach right next to us!

Easy check-in, we used AirBnB and the code was provided in advance, the unit (1004) has electronic locks and good heavy duty locks on the door with a double door entry so the wind is controlled.
The deck from the tenth floor has stunning views. The bed was very comfortable with a great open kitchen and dining / living space.
The doors to the Lanai open up nearly the whole wall!
The office staff are helpful and friendly and it has direct beach access. You can see sea Turtles all the time.
I've rented three long term condos in Kona, Hilo and Lahaina and this is my favorite. Though the others had private jaccuzis and in one case a pool the walk on beach and view makes this tips.
Just two of us on this trip but you could easily bunk a kid or two in the living room on the couch.
We are in our 50's and all the guests we bumped into were carer age and very friendly. The whole place was nice and quiet and observes a quiet window between 22:00 and 08:00, it's also a non-smoking property.
Mix of owner and vacation rentals in the building.

We stayed in 101, the two-bed unit on the breakwall. You cannot find a better location: Your lanai is literally beachside, perfect for listening to the waves, plus watching sunset and sunrise. You can walk onto the beach in few steps and from there explore miles of beach or stick to the boardwalk which runs 1.5 miles before winding through a complex. Across the street from Maui Kai is a path leading to groceries, coffee, little restaurants, and a few other stores. You are a 10-minute drive from downtown Lahaina, 50 minutes from Kahului airport or Wailea, and an hour from the road to Hana. The unit is more spacious than photos suggest, with two good bedroome, each with private bath. The kitchen is well-stocked with cooking/dining tools and we ate in (or out, actually, on the lani) several nights. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

I honestly don't know why people are giving this place more than 3 stars except for maybe the location. But, you can put a prison overlooking the beach and it would be beautiful. This place is OLD, outdated, dirty, felt like a roadside motel. Dingy halls, construction barricades/tape/cones/tarp on the front doors that was never removed which shows work was not actually being done. No grass or grounds at all. Sure, it's literally on the ocean, but that's all that is good about it. The room was dirty, no broom or dustpan in sight, no lock on the sliding door to the lanai, LOUD door to the strange vestibule that didn't shut properly, so the neighbors slammed it at all hours of the day and night. The least the property managers could do is fix that door. I don't know that this place can be updated without literally tearing it down and starting over.

Everything was great until we checked out and went home. We received an email that said we did damage to the door which was fireproof. They also charged out credit card $3000 for this damage on our credit card……. By some higher power i took a video the first thing when we walked in and had time stamped dated posted on Facebook text to a friend proof that the damage was there before we arrived! If it wasn’t for that we would’ve been out $3000 because we had proof. I’m not sure if this is some kind of scam but the odd of me taking that video was all of Jesus himself! Whenever staying at any rental property take a video of the place right when you enter, take a picture of the door, front door, closet inside doors everywhere for proof. we did send the video to the owners and we did get our money back but if it wasn’t for that video we would’ve been screwed $3000 Beware!!

Aloha Rachel, THIS IS NOT OUR UNIT. Some of the units at the Maui Kai are owned and operated by others. The Maui Kai Rental Program (Club Maui Kai) operates most of the units. Unfortunately, you didn't rent from us. We would not do this. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Call us next time and we'll make sure that nothing like this doesn't happen to you. Mahalo.

We stayed in room 505, family of 4. Apparently the units are individually owned, but centrally managed? So, this review is for this condo unit only and the common grounds. The view from the lanai is spectacular. Fantastic to sit there in late afternoon sun and watch the sunset. Had a large round table and 4 chairs outside, so we got takeout food and ate there quite a few times, whether it was breakfast, lunch or dinner. Can't leave window open all night the ocean is so close it's very loud, but the central air worked well, so we were comfortable. The condo itself and it's contents showed it's age and had some issues. The toilet in the one tiny bathroom is so close to the vanity you have to sit side saddle! The stove only had one working burner, the others got warm but not hot. The beds were horrible, no other way to say it. Master bedroom had an old mattress with a memory foam thrown on top. The bed frame was being held together with tie straps. The pull out couch was even worse. They are never great it seems but this one was very bad. the mattress had springs that you could see and feel. they brought us a memory foam on day 2 to help with that. Staff were great, very accommodating, but beds responsibility of the owners. We all had sore backs; this had a very negative effect on our experience. We like that neighbourhood, quick access to highway and Lahaina, Kapalua etc. Good eateries across street, easily walked to. Grocery store as well. With good beds, and a little TLC this condo could be excellent. They also need new beach chairs, umbrella in the condo. Pool, hot tub, BBQs and clubhouse area is great, albeit not on the ocean side of the building.

This is our 2nd stay, and we booked both through Art and Sophie Nickel. They were extremely accommodating about letting us change our reservations twice, due to Covid restrictions. They were very understanding when we got a bit of cold feet. However, it was so relaxing at our condo, and we had no worries at all when we arrived. It was contactless arrival, and if we needed anything, we only had to call (but we didn't need anything). It is a very short walk to the Boardwalk, and from there you can pick a perfect spot on the beach. Or just stay in our lanai and watch the waves, and enjoy the sunset. Even caught a couple of rainbows. Our room was a one bedroom, and it gave us more than plenty of room. The kitchen was nice, and since restaurant reservations were hard to get, it was nice to be able to fix breakfast and lunch there. There is a grill by the pool, so you are able to cook/grill. A perfect stay.

Here’s the thing- we love the view from Maui Kai during whale season. Our binoculars stay out on the lanai and we watch with coffee at Breakfast until we’ll after sunset. Today we watched a baby whale practice breaching while an adult near was vigorously tail slapping. So cool. Our condo this time is a corner unit on the south side. It’s comfortable and has everything we need from a properly stocked kitchen to snorkel gear and binoculars. Of course each condo is privately owned and may have different things available, but we have found this seems normal for Maui Kai condos. It’s quiet here except for the ocean which you are right next to so if you don’t enjoy being in the water this won’t work for you! There is a small pool and hot tub, pay washer and dryer a soda machine ( detergent available in office- we brought our own) It’s at the north end of kaanipali and the kaanipali beach walk. The Times grocery store is across the street. It’s tucked between Seeger buildings but feels private and quiet. This is not a hotel or resort. Don’t expect that. We don’t and we love it here. If you want to sit right next to the Pacifc ocean on your lanai balcony this is for you.

Aloha, We appreciate you taking the time to review the property. All the units are ocean front, They have exceptional views that are hard to beat. And whale watching from the lanai is a big plus to our guest as you mentioned The property is low key with a home away from home feel. The pool is a gated area and we do our best to make it feel tropical. It is a private and quiet property. We have two Jenair bbq's in the cabana area by the pool with a full kitchen located next to it. Every unit also has a full kitchen. We are happy you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to hosting you again sometime soon. Mahalo

I never did get to stay here. The omicron surge hit during the time I was booked to go and as someone who cares about my community, I made the decision to not travel during the worst of the global pandemic. Two other hotels (one in Hana and one near the airport), the place I booked the luau, the whale watching trip, the two airlines I'd reserved ... every single business did the right thing and refunded 100% of my deposits (the Hana hotel charged a fair $25 cancellation fee). Maui Kai Condos said screw you. We're going to keep your $818 deposit and earn double.
Stay away from any business that puts their mercenary attitude before doing what's right for community.

I'm sorry you did not get to stay with us and have the opportunity to experience our oceanfront condos. Although it was your personal choice not to travel, tourism on Maui is active and Hawaii is open to visitors while remaining one of the safest destinations in the US. Unfortunately, when you cancelled just a few days before arriving, we were not able to refund your deposit or rebook the condo for any of the days which you cancelled last minute. Unlike some of the other places you may have booked, we are not a hotel. All our condos are privately owned so cancelling last minute results in the owner losing revenue while expenses such as maintenance fees, property taxes, insurance and other operating costs continue. We hope you do eventually make it to Maui and experience all that the island has to offer including whale watching at our oceanfront condos.

We stayed in Rm 701, and this is everything you want it to be. We appreciate Donna Bender for booking, and helping us get here. This Condo has everything you can ever want or need. When you get this place, you are getting million dollar views. Our Lanai is nearly over the water. The kitchen has everything needed to cook meals, there are stores and places to eat nearby.....within walking in some cases. 15 minute drive to Lahaina. If there was one small disappointment, it is the bedding. For what you pay and get here, I would expect sheets that are worn and stained, that do not fit and a mattress that has seen better days. However, we slept fine....loved it all

They posted an update on their website, indicating they were still open but without internet, cable etc. and that supplies on that side of the island are still sparse. Stock up at walmart or costco on the airport side with food and ice before going to west Maui. The update link is at the top of their page.
Please call Al Pins at (808) 298-3046 or Stan Silva at (925) 381-6207 is what is listed. Try those numbers and hopefully you can get in touch with someone? Hopefully you have figured it out by now, but thought this might help.
Snorkeling is great out front when the water is no choppy. There are numerous beach's and bays in the area within 10 minutes walking or 10 minutes driving. You will find turtles, eels, reef fish and beautiful coral. Water sports in Maui are available nearly year round and all over the island. See you soon.
Yes, not accessible, identical to the beachfront all along this part of Ka’anapali. Drive instead to the DT Fleming Park and Beach adjacent to the Ritz-Carlton, bask in the sun and boogie board to your heart’s content while sipping on Mai Tais from the Ritz’s Burger Shack a 1 minute stroll up from the beach. 🎉🍾Or head east 1/4 mile from the Maui Kai to another small public beach and snorkeling cove.
Hahahaha I just left oct (30th 2019), king bed hahahaha more like a very small queen. If your 65 and older it’s perfect. No kids. I will pass next time
