I chose Ocean Tower because the rooms I saw on the website looked nice. I came to find out that those rooms are not available to be booked even on a cash reservation but they couldn’t explain why they’d be on the booking website. The room we were booked for on the package during the first 5 nights of our stay was part of a timeshare presentation package and was dirty (my Lysol wipes came away dirty after wiping the room) and smelled like rotting wet towels. This smell did not go away despite spraying Lysol each day. The room had not seen a renovation since the 70’s at least. This is not at all reflective of what is shown on the website. I was unable to get my room switched because they were at 100% capacity. I was hoping the last two days of my stay, which was a separate cash reservation after our timeshare package booking ended would be better. We checked out of the rotting smelly towels room so we could check in to the next reservation. I had booked an Ocean view room directly from the HIlton Waikoloa website. When I walked into the next room reservation I saw there was no ocean view from the room they assigned me. The pictures on the website show an ocean view. I was placed into another dated ugly room with a pool and lagoon view. I went down to the front desk and politely explained this was not what I booked or paid for. The front desk claimed that any high floor room assignment is considered an ocean view room even if you can’t see the ocean. Seriously. I was told that there were no rooms available that actually had an ocean view because they were at capacity. I had booked my ocean view room months ago. Then, I showed them other pictures of what was on the website and asked to be moved to one of those newer looking rooms. I was told those rooms don’t exist except for the timeshare owners. Yet, they are in the hotel side picture gallery. The entire website is deceiving. The front desk clerk said she'd have to get a manager to talk to me in order to resolve anything at all. I said that was fine. Please note at no point did I go all "Karen" on anyone. I remained, courteous, polite and soft spoken. After all, it's not the front desk clerk's fault the first room was disgusting and smelly and the booking information, photos and descriptions on the website and hotel policy is basically bait and switch. The manager could not be bothered to come out. So clearly, guest feedback, service and resolution of issues is not at all a concern for them. The desk clerk moved me to a 1 bedroom with a pool and lagoon view which was the only room available. Still not what I paid for. I wanted to have an ocean view during my final two days. They credited me the resort fee instead which still didn't give me the experience that I paid for on our Hawaii vacation. . I sent feedback regarding the first filthy smelly room and the booking for an ocean view room that I paid for and did not get. I received a note back from the manager below. Absolute joke of a response. Dear Terridiz: Aloha. Thank you for choosing Ocean Tower and for taking the time to share your recent experience, your opinions and comments are very valuable to us. We apologize for the issues you encountered during your stay. All Ocean Tower rooms are scheduled for a complete renovation soon, we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to a newly renovated in the future. Mahalo. Sincerely, TJ Hwang Front Office Manager Hilton Grand Vacation

Beautiful property to relax by the pool or use as a base to explore the sights of the Big Island. Ocean Tower provides it all! The pleasant staff goes out of their way to make sure all your needs are met. The grounds are lush and well maintained. The pinnacle of each day is watching the big Hawaiian sun set over the ocean and all you have to do is walk out to Buddha point and admire that sight! Ocean Tower exceeded our expectations. Give it a try!

Once we got passed all the negative reviews on TripAdvisor about the resort, particularly the VERY accurate description of the mile long hike from the parking lot, we wanted to truly give this place a shot. The apartment we had was STUNNING with a spectacular view! So we went from like a 6 to an 8. We had a busy day in store, so we dropped our stuff and took off. When we returned, reminded of the parking hike and the slow monorail, we began putting our groceries away, only to learn the ice machine wasn’t working. Back to a 6. We called down to advise them and the response was quick, but the maintenance man wasn’t able to do much til the next day and suggested walking another half mile clear across the floor to the ice machine. Following day, we left for our adventures only to return to no ice. Additionally, we learned that the extremely fancy looking bidet in the master bathroom wasn’t working either. We notified front desk again, via text. Day 3 - still no ice, no working bidet, long hikes, decided walking vs taking the monorail and boom! new issue… we tried washing our clothes and the laundry machine held our clothes hostage! The lid suddenly would not unlock and even after calling front desk that night and staying up til midnight waiting, no one showed up. Following day, we headed out. While on our day’s activities, we followed up via text and were told maintenance had been to the unit around noon and the matter “should” be resolved. Arrived that evening, the night before we were leaving and after our clothes sitting wet for 24 hours, to a still broken washer. We were finally able to get the clothes out, but the broken machine would not start and we were too afraid to try to get it to lock, in case it wouldn’t unlock again. The front desks only solution? Walk over to the public laundry room and rewash our clothes there - where, of course, there was no detergent! The young lady WAS very helpful and quickly rushed a few packets up to us, though. So at the end of it all, while the room, view and property were stunning. my family&I agree we absolutely did NOT get the value of what we spent on points. The pleasures of having in-room luxuries were practically non-existent.

It’s clear there is a pandemic because everything has not opened back up yet. The hotel did a great job with all they offered in amenities and service. There was plenty to see and do at the Hilton. The staff treated us nicely and everything was clean. We look forward to returning post pandemic to experience Hawaii at 100%. It seems to be about 75% now. You can’t take a boat to your room but the train is running. It’s obviously there were beautiful flowers and special touches before Covid. After a year of being closed and only open just over a month, Hilton is working hard to bring it all back. Our family and friends were more than happy!!

Wait until Hawaii reopens. No rental cars, no Uber or Lyft, hotel understaffed, disgruntle over works employees, and no amenities or adventures. Just wait! Best part was getting off property. We had to, just to be able to get fed. To ice the cake, disgruntled employees and complaining guests
