We traveled from Kona to attend a work training. Checking in was easy, accessible, friendly and ready. The new hotel look was beautiful, the hotel presence was welcoming and inviting, the new colors gave a healthy and bright environment. The room provided was clean, spacious and inviting for our stay. The staff was very warm, welcoming and provided much with their smile and Aloha. Our room made us feel right at home. Much Mahalo for our great stay at your hotel.
The staff, the location and the aloha is impeccable at SCP Hilo Hotel! I highly encourage anyone staying in Hilo to stay here...the location is perfect and close to everything. We will return and I will be making sure my family and friends stay here too!
We stayed at the SCP HIlo Hotel because it was the highest rated in the Hilo area and we wanted a room close to Volcanoes National Park. The office area and front of the hotel were very well decorated. The rooms themselves though left a lot to be desired. The rooms are basically 50+ year old rooms that have been updated as much as the old building will allow. Box A/C unit and louvered windows. The room and bathroom was very clean. Walking in from the parking area, the view is the ugly back side of the building (rooms). You get a sense of how old the building is. It was OK for the night, but if I had to do it again, I would have made the 2.5 hour drive back to Waikoloa late at night instead. It's a 2* hotel at best with a 2.5* being your typical Holiday Inn Express, Hampton Inn or Courtyard.…
We traveled from Kona to Hilo for our sons baseball tournament and SCP was the perfect hotel to choose for an on island stay! Our family definitely recommends this hotel! Great staff (they have a welcoming atmosphere), very clean and updated rooms, nice pool with a shaded lounge area (convenient and relaxing area for me to watch my children play in the pool), close to town, very open and airy grounds, beautiful landscape.
Hotel on the water and waterfront park, 1 mile from town Large airy lobby with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff, 24-hour coffee/tea/kombucha (on tap!) and water, very comfortable pool with shaded seats and tables. Rooms are very comfortable and have different layouts; mine had small refrigerator and extra sink/cabinets but no kitchen supplies Clean, comfortable, quiet, daily maid service Liquid soap/shampoo instead of individually wrapped soaps All rooms face inner court; unless you have noisy neighbors, the only sounds you will hear are the frogs at night and early morning airplanes
Pool is charming. My poor review is due to our experience in the night. The people in the room above us started blaring music and shouting at each other after midnight. We asked the front desk for help. The guy called. The people turned down the music for fifteen minutes and then started up again. We again asked for help. He said he could only call because he could not leave his post. But then apparently he was able to speak to them in person because he called us at 1 a.m. to report that he had done so, thereby waking up the only one of our children who had been able to sleep through the rest of the chaos. No one could sleep after that. Really poor judgment.
Fun weekend getaway for a football tournament. Clean comfortable room. Can’t wait to come back and stay at this beautiful property! The staff was friendly and check in was super easy. Thank you for having us!
SCP hotel is centrally located to all the sites and eateries in Hilo. The front desk and hotel service staff are friendly and helpful. The lobby is a great gathering place with computer access, coffee and water 24 hours a day. We were able to get a room with three beds which accommodated our family of 5. The pool offered a great place to rest and cool off from the hot and muggy Hilo summer day. The ice pond is located directly across the hotel, which is a popular swimming hole for locals. Parking was plentiful and free. Hotel is in walking distance from Popular Kens Pancake House and Ponds Restaurant.
I’m not exactly sure how to describe this hotel. And I am not sure if that’s good or bad ;) The pros- it’s a beautiful updated hotel with nice features and a trendy style. The employees were super accommodating, available and friendly. It’s near the water and close to the action in Hilo. We walked along the inlet in the bay and we saw sea turtles, people swimming, fishing, etc. They have paddle boards you can use and they create a really nice little oasis- within their property and some surrounding space. The cons- it’s a remodeled hotel and it’s definitely from a different era. The layout is not modern (my opinion) and the rooms lack some common amenities/conveniences - a roomy shower, a TV, breakfast, strong A/C. It’s close to the airport (which did not actually make it noisy from our room) and in a very industrial area. (I would not feel comfortable taking a stroll in the neighborhood) Although there is nice outdoor space close by, between the neighborhood and the vibe inside, it feels a bit off… But it was priced well and that made those “cons” almost expected. So… {shrug} We had a great 1 night stay- it felt like we got what we paid for. It really was an ascetically pleasing place to stay- so my best description is that it’s a 2 star hotel with a 4 star feel. If you’re good with that- this is the place for you!…
Overall, we respectfully the philosophy and goals of this hotel however it did fall short of our expectation somewhat. The reception area is great - nice lighting, furniture and water/coffee/tea available. Live music for happy hour on Friday was nice ... but you need to bring your own cocktail - the only bar service is in the adjoining restaurant. We were disappointed with the room and balcony. The entry way door is really your first impression to the room - and despite a new lock, it lacks lustre and looks dingy. The bathroom looks like a new paint job but otherwise, it has a feel of just paint on poor craft work or very old bath furnishings. The fridge in the room is useful but along with the older AC unit, with both running at night it felt like we were sleeping in an industrial park with the noise. First night we slept with ear plugs, and the second night turned both off and opened the windows. That might have been fine except the walls are very thing and we could hear the guest in the adjacent room talking on the phone and even bathroom activity; we had to resort to ear plugs again. Our door keys stopped working each day and had to be reset regularly. On a positive note, the staff are quite friendly and the location is great. It's within walking distance to some restaurants, the beach and the park. Again, we like what you are trying to do here, but some constructive feedback might help ... some little things do matter.…
