Detailed Reviews
The rooms are adequate and clean but dated and minimalist in terms of size and decor. The A/C was functioning well during the July heat. My singular objection to the property is its description as "pet friendly" when that entails paying $25/dog/night. Traveling with two dogs, that added $50 for the one night stay, a 25% upcharge for the privilege of bringing our dogs into the room for the night. There are no carpets on the floors, bed covers were dated and machine washable. Hard to comprehend the need for a $50 fee.

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback! It is important to us and to our guests that we continue to offer pet friendly options as fewer properties in Cody will take pets. The pet fee is there for us to ensure that we can pay housekeeping for their outstanding efforts in keeping our pet friendly rooms just as clean as a non-pet room. Thank you for staying with the Big Bear, we hope to have you with us again someday if ever you are passing through!

This motel has a nostalgic old fashioned feel to it. It offers very basic amenities, but the room was clean, and beds were comfortable. The room was fairly small, but had everything that we needed for our 1 night stay. Their are wooden chairs outside of each room to enjoy the evening and on the evening we stayed there was a gentlemen that set up just outside the office and played and sang. Also a couple brought their buggy with two beautiful horses and were giving free buggy rides. We enjoyed our stay and the 'Old West" feel.

We were extremely pleased with our choice of Big Bear Motel in Cody, WY, as we visited Yellowstone for 3 days. The rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable! Our hosts were helpful beyond what was expected, even going out and searching the parking lot and our room for a missing wallet when they got our frantic call from Yellowstone! (Yes, it was found.) Complimentary treats, fresh coffee, and cold water were available in the office all day. We'll be sure to stay here again on our next trip west!

What a great AMERICAN owned motel. We arrived at 10AM and were beat. They were full up the night before so there were no rooms for early check in. They told us to go eat breakfast and they would get 2 rooms cleaned for us. We came back 90 mins later and we had rooms, and they were CLEAN!! Beds were comfortable water pressure was great and the view of the mountains while drinking a cold beer on the deck was wonderful.

This is a great old style motel. It doesn’t have any frills, but the rooms are large, clean, and comfortable. We stayed in a single queen on the ground floor, and the room had great views of the mountains. There was a table and chairs, which was great for eating the take out BBQ we got from down the road. Air conditioning worked well and wasn’t noisy. Room came with a fridge that had a small freezer that was prefect for keeping our drinks cold. Pretty sure there was also a microwave, but we didn’t need one so I’m not positive. They have an ice maker for complementary ice, plus they sell bagged ice. They also provide complementary shampoo and soap. There isn’t a coffee maker in the room, but they provide coffee in the lobby starting at 7ish. The staff we dealt with were incredibly friendly and helpful, truly felt like they wanted us to have a wonderful experience. There is a restaurant across the road that opens for breakfast at 6, everything we tried was tasty. Easy walking distance to the rodeo and other attractions, easy driving to many more. We enjoyed our stay here, and if we every found ourselves in Cody again, we would not hesitate to stay here again.

We stayed at the Big Bear motel for 4 days while visiting the town of Cody and Yellowstone National park. Room was clean with a comfortable bed. Much to our surprise the room was cleaned everyday, at other hotels you have to request this service.

How does this motel have these positive ratings? In Cody, it’s the lowest of the low end!
Tiny room in a drive up to the door on gravel; furniture Goodwill would reject (not kidding); AC an old noisy window unit stuck through the wall above the bed; etc., etc.
We wound up here because almost all the good motels in Cody are either not pet friendly or take advantage by almost doubling the one night room charge when you have a pet.
Two positives: 1. the room was clean, and 2. it’s better than sleeping in the car, but not by much.

We are sorry that you were so disappointed with your stay at the Big Bear. We charge pet fees to ensure that we can pay our housekeepers to do an amazing job cleaning our rooms (as it takes more care to clean up rooms occupied by animals). You obviously did not have a good time while at the Big Bear, and we would like to make it up to you the next time you are in Cody by offering a more accommodating stay in a better equipped room. Our guests love this place, which is where our positive ratings come from. Big Bear is a fun, clean, comfortable, vibrant place to stay at especially in the summer months when we offer pony rides every evening and live entertainment on select nights. We have the largest seasonal outdoor pool in Cody, and are walking distance to several attractions. Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

We’ve stayed at the Big Bear several times, and never been disappointed. Priced very competitively, the Big Bear is an older hotel that’s been updated. During the summer season, they have live music and horse rides each evening—weather permitting. We enjoyed the entertainment, especially the music and watching the Shetland pony, Cookie, ride in the golf cart! Due to Covid, most hotels aren’t cleaning daily, but our room at the Big Bear was stocked with plenty of soap, tp, shampoo, etc. We definitely were made to feel welcome to ask for anything we needed. Staff was super friendly, and took time to mingle with the guests during the evening entertainment. We would recommend Big Bear to families, singles, couples, really anyone looking for a simple, clean room in Cody!!

We booked this motel on very short notice, the Friday of Memorial weekend. We were taking a road trip to see Yellowstone over the long weekend. When I called and spoke with Bill at the reservation desk he was very pleasant and helpful. We drove most of the night and arrived around 11:00 a.m. on the Saturday of Memorial weekend, they were very accommodating and let us check in when we arrived because the room was ready. This is not a normal practice for motels so we really appreciated it! The drive to Yellowstone park is about an hour away with a nice drive. Our room on the second floor was very clean and the beds were comfortable. They did not have room service at the time probably due to Covid so we did not get any clean towels on our second day. Time did not allow us to try the pool but it did look very inviting and on a summer time trip I bet it would be perfect.

It’s very close - 5 to 10 minutes walk but a fair bit of that is across the Rodeo car park so you would need to walk that even if you drove!
Outside heated pool
We do have some pet friendly rooms so we ask to let us know or call direct to avoid confusion 307 587 3117 thanks Bill
