Everyone was friendly. Good customer service. Quick service food was good and good variety. The Kalahari is dear to my heart. I have been going there for many years, this was one of the best trips. Water slides fun. Outdoor/indoor pools relaxing. It was a little hard mid day to get an inner tube. But it was manageable. There is some construction going on but all the slides were open, including master blaster!

I was looking for a quick 2 day getaway for my family of 3.
I'm in MN and Great wolf lodge Bloomington wouldve been convenient but it was WAY overpriced, I saved $100/night choosing Kalahari, the complex is Immense! upon check-in we had a VERY sweet young lady who was very polite and helpful in navigating this large complex. We stayed in the Sands building so we drove to our building and chose to walk the complex instead of driving to the waterpark and Tom Foolerys, this makes sense if you look at the site map on thier website. Its a lot of walking, not saying its a bad thing but something to think about with younger kids or older adults.
We ate at the property for our first dinner and first breakfast (ivory coast) it wasnt busy but he food was delicious and it was presented beautifully, is it pricey? a little $$ but theres the conveneince of not leaving the hotel. they have numerous food opitons, room service will cost you 3% of the bill plus a 20% gratutity, it seemed popular as i saw hosts running around with red hot bags to go deliver food.
every staff member i encountered smiled and said hello to me.
the waterpark was nice, i wasn't blown away by it or anything, but it was nice, we went our first night, then again when it opened, left in the afternoon and went back in the evening, that was perfect, the afternoon gets really busy which is to be expected. I thought they were well staffed, and the staff all seemed to be doing thier job, as a parent it is your resposibility to watch your own kids, so whenever parents complain about the lifeguards, I often wonder if they just dont want to watch them themselves and expect someone else too, mind you I've witnessed bad lifeguarding , I did not see that here.
the waterpark towels remained stocked (which is impressive) and staff was constantly walking around picking up wet towels that people were too lazy to put in the bin themselves.
in Tom Foolerys, it was clean, on more than 1 occasion I saw staff refilling tickets, cleaning game windows, picking up debris, i was so impressed, I watched housekeeping staff turn over rooms, working in teams, wiping down fitness machines top to botttom. . . just a very clean establishment.
when I read bad reviews I think its easy to be mad and write the bad, but I believe you need to allow staff to rectify an issue before you write some skathing review.
I could go on and on about this place, the atmospehere, the service, the amenities.
food is pricey, but your paying for a convenience, plus your in a tourist town, Tom foolerys games gave out good ticket amounts, i saw numerous kids winning jackpots, thier redemption prizes are a par above the norm.

I hope to visit again when the outdoor park is open, Kalahari you have won over my family, Thank you!

So after months of being quarantined during the pandemic we decided to plan a short stay at Kalahari. Overall I have to say that the resort did a good job with sanitizer stations, wipes, and postings all over the park on how they are doing their part. The big issue I noticed Was that no one was implementing the rules. Elevators are supposed to have only a family yet I continually had to have people come into our elevator and tell them that one family per elevator so it was not really Kalahari’s fault but more of the guests. Our first room in the Sands building reeked of smoke, so not sure how their sanitizing is going. We did get a better room immediately. Water park was busy, guests not really distancing themselves, not much oversight from the resort on mitigating this. Employees all had masks on, and were clearly doing their part. All in all the family had a good time, no complaints..we are living during a pandemic and are able to get out and enjoy ourselves.

We arrived at the resort around 4pm and the check in line was insane. I waited 30-45 minutes only to be told my room wasn't ready yet. I asked if I needed to wait in THIS line again but they said no. It would have made more sense to give a key and activate it when ready and text the room number. Because of the wait, they gave me free vouchers for Tom Foolery. We sent over there while waiting for the room and stood in that REALLY long and slow line to get the wristbands. Once we got those and walked around a bit, I texted the number to see when our room would be ready. About 5 minutes later I received a text saying the room was ready. I probably waited about 10 minutes to get the room keys. We grabbed out baggage and went to our room. They gave us a free upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite with fireplace and waterpark view. (I had booked a basic 4 person room in the main building.) The rooms and bathrooms were clean, the hot water was a bit temperamental but it worked once you figured it out. I didn't see an tissues in the room but otherwise it was good. Being that it is covid season, the rooms weren't cleaned daily but they were prompt to bring more towels when needed. The beds were quite firm and were the pillows.

The waterparks were clean, outside seemed to be more crowded than inside. All staff were wearing face shields, some lifeguards were but that's understandable because they need to blow whistles and get wet. The wave pool didn't have big waves on all weekend.

Covid related - barely any guests wore masks, staff did at the main desk and restaurants, lots of hand sanitizer around, markings on the floor for social distancing. The breakfast buffet was no longer a self serve but it was good and the servers were attentive.

When I got home and received my electronic copy of my bill, I noticed the free Tom Foolery was billed to my account. We also accidentally left a nice water bottle there but I never followed up on that.

Overall, an enjoyable stay and we would stay there again.

My family has stayed at Kalahari prior and after pandemic. While they're changes...this place makes you feel like "everything is normal" again! Kalahari gives you a clean room, same comprehensive serives, while still running tons of virus safety measures in the background. The staff all wear masks, but still communicate that your stay/business is welcome & appreciated. Love it!!!

We bought day passes for the Kalahari water-park, after reading on their website that extra precautions were being taken regarding corona-virus. Well you never would've known that Covid is even a thing upon entering the Kalahari. When we got there, hardly anybody was wearing masks and social distancing was not being practiced. There were no markings in the lines for where to stand in regards to distancing, including in the lines at the food market, Starbucks, etc. People standing in line at the food market weren't even wearing masks while getting their food!! Everyone in the lines were on top of each other. Also, there were employees, including the one where we got our wristbands at the water park entry from, not wearing masks!! There was hair braiding being done right next to the line for the water park entry with the girl who was having her hair braided not wearing a mask and the employee standing practically right on top of the girl! The hair salons don't even allow their clients to be near each other! The only reason we stayed is because the actual water-parks themselves were not overly crowded and we were able to keep our distance from others. I have a 1 year old son and he loves all the different kiddie area, as do I because not many places have so many options for his age. So I'll definitely come back after Covid subsides, but in the meantime, if an establishment is advertising all over that they are taking extra precautions but not enforcing anything, then all it is is lies!

Our group of 5, 2 adults & 3 kids aged 8-10 years old, stayed in a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom living room suite over Thanksgiving week. The cost was double what we usually pay to stay in the Dells and I am typically not comfortable paying $500 + night to stay at a waterpark. That being said my kids had a BLAST. They absolutely loved their first visit to the Kalahari and Tom Foolery’s was their favorite part of the trip. We spent our time alternating waterpark, eat/rest & Tom Foolery’s every couple of hours for 3.5 days. If you utilize the facilities starting at 10am on check in day and stay a good chunk of your check out day, it makes things much more cost effective. We ate ALL but one meal in our room even though we only had a microwave and mini fridge. This alone saved a ton of money, which was necessary since we spent so much on the room and unlimited wristbands for Tom Foolery’s (well worth it). We had zero complaints regarding staff, check in, cleanliness, our room, noise level (a bit loud above us) safety (don’t go if you are not comfortable around unmasked people) etc… All in all my kids enjoyed trying out a new waterpark in the Dells! We typically stay at the Wilderness and will likely alternate between the two each year per my kids request.

This one is going to be a rough one. I will start with the pros; the staff was friendly, I enjoyed being able to text requests or questions and got a fast response. On to the cons. My biggest complaint is the lack of enforcement of wearing masks and no capacity limits in water parks. I have gotten many emails and texts from the resort reminding me to wear and mask throughout resort everywhere except when eating and actively using water park which was good and had me feeling like my family and I would be safe. The problem is those rules were not enforced by any or the staff. The second I walked in I saw many people in check in line with no masks. Almost everywhere I turned no matter where in the resort we were at I spotted people with no masks. I even witnessed those people interacting with staff either at restaurants or shops and I never once heard staff enforce masks. There was no social distancing being enforced either. There were plenty of signs and markers but it was not being enforced whatsoever. I have several pics that I attached as proof to the non mask wearers. I was also very unhappy to see zero capacity limits in the water park. Great wolf lodge is not only limiting capacity but they are also doing temperature checks and actively sanitizing equipment which I saw nothing being sanitized such as the life vests and water floats. The resort overall was also very short staffed especially in the Tom Foolery area. My kids didn’t get to go on several rides because the workers were running multiple attractions, what a waste of money on the wrist bands. In addition, there was a guest who pulled the fire alarm at midnight during our stay which scared my kids especially my 3 year old. I did appreciate the offering of 50 bucks off my next visit but you couldn’t pay me to go to this place again. There will be no next time for us, this place is not worth the hype and 3 hour drive from Chicago. Overall I felt very deceived with the COVID precautions not being enforced. To get many text reminders of the mask policy en route to immediately walking in and seeing so many people not wearing masks was a huge letdown and I do feel that we were deceived. The evening of the first night, my husband and I agreed that if we knew what we were walking into we never ever would have booked here. We will not be forever great wolf lodge goers.

Well with Covid I understand that things are difficult and tried to give as much leeway as I could. Signs everywhere stated a commitment to cleanliness, however this was not the case. With many kids I always assume there will some messiness. But I'll say the worst was our stairs leading to our room were covered in french fries and popper fireworks.the day we arrived (Monday) they were still there only more smashed and spread out when we left (Friday) the Tom Fooleries staff for the most part had nothing to do with anyone. My kids always say thank you after a ride and with the exception of a very few times my kids were treated with a blank stare as in why are you talking to me. one employee was watching something inappropriate on his phone behind the counter at the 4d shooter. He made everyone heard in a pile in front of his desk and ignore the social distancing spots on the floor so no one could see behind the counter to see what he was doing. Also I stayed around long enough to see non of the guns or glasses that were part of the ride were sanitized between groups. We've stayed at Kalahari Sandusky many times and always have a great time. And while this is a nice resort the staff is lacking or complacent for the most part. I will say the resort did a fine job of having many self dispense hand sanitizers available

We just returned from this resort and we were underwhelmed based on what we paid. The room was not bad, but far from everything and it was not particularly pedestrian friendly to walk outside through a parking lot to the lobby and main public areas. The water park was absolutely overcrowded and dirty. I think they must have exceeded fire code limits, let alone Covid-safe capacity, with no one but employees wearing masks anywhere and people absolutely packed in the wave pool and hot tubs. The kids enjoyed the slides and kids play structure, but it’s hard to turn small children loose in this park and keep them in your line of vision. The only rules I saw enforced were about where you could stand and hold an alcoholic drink. Employees are not super friendly overall. I got chewed out by a lady in Guest Services when I inquired about Cabanas. Communication in general is poor.

As for Tomfoolerys, it was okay but the lines were ridiculously long for any attractions (no social distancing, no mask requirements) and they seemed understaffed for a weekend night. Basically you had to wait for an attraction while an employee went on break. There was trash everywhere on the floor: chip wrappers, empty bottles, etc. We were charged $7 to have the passes in our room when we arrived, but they were not present and we had to wait in a 30 minute line to pick up the passes, with no refund. We had a better time at Knuckleheads across the road and felt it was larger with better “traffic flow”.

At the end of the day, it is possible to make money and be Covid-safe. Security theater and cleaning surfaces is huge at Kalahari, but by this point we know the virus spreads through close contact and airborne droplets. For example, wearing plastic gloves while serving yourself at the breakfast buffet is nice, but it won’t do a thing when you’re packing in tables and not requiring masks anywhere. The only reason we went to a water park resort is because close friends we hadn’t seen in a while wanted to go, and we are vaccinated. However, I worried for the children who clearly aren’t.

All in all, we decided we won’t be back, pandemic or not. We felt nickel and dimed and that the value just wasn’t there compared to what we paid and how packed and dirty everything was, and with how surly many of the employees were. It just isn’t for us.
