My husband and I can honestly say this is the best accommodation/bed and breakfast we have ever stayed out throughout our lifetime of travels. We would choose to stay here over any 5-star hotel and we will definitely come back and book here again when we are back in Queenstown. The accommodation is gorgeous with great attention to detail with the decor. Smells divine and clean. We were welcomed with the fire burning, homemade treats, and fruitful conversations and the daily breakfasts were a work of art! Thank you so much Dan and Mitzi. It was an unforgettable stay!

Everything about The Old Ferry Hotel B&B is delightful. Firstly the welcome is genuine as if you have known Mitzi and Dan for years, they truely invite you into their place. The room and bathroom was lovely decorated with an extremely comfortable bed and spacious bathroom. The shared living area is inviting and homely especially when the wood fire is burning. The breakfast is just something else, like you are at a beautiful cafe with own waiter and chef that runs like clockwork. The location is perfectly hidden away from the main drag and the town centre with an easy distance to everything but away from the hustle and bustle. Loved our stay here!

We stayed in The Ferry for the night of my birthday a few days ago, Dan and Mitzi were fabulous hosts! The stay made my birthday extra special. The B&B is absolutely stunning, we were in a little cabin just behind the actual building and it was immaculate, so warm and cosy. The location is perfect too, it’s right opposite the historic Shotover bridge and the walk underneath the B&B itself follows the river which was amazing. They even let us walk their gorgeous little dog - Mavis! Beautiful B&B and amazing location. Would totally recommend.

What a fantastic stay! This was one of our favorite places. Mitzi & Dan, the hosts, were super accommodating, but also let us be, having the house to ourselves along with the other few guests to prepare meals, explore the property. They made a delicious breakfast made to order, and on a day leaving very early they packed us a sack breakfast the night before. Extremely thoughtful and courteous hosts. The location is outside of Queenstown but is an easy drive to get there, and they will give you the best way to go to avoid the traffic. We were there for three days but could have easily stayed longer.

It had been a dream of ours to holiday in the South Island NZ but work and travel elsewhere had intervened. Upon retirement, why not begin with a stay at The Old Ferry Hotel! Just a hunch but this place looked like a home away from well, home. And so it was. Hosts Dan and Mitzi treated us to a memorable weekend in their charming retreat high above the Shotover river, Queenstown. The Old Ferry is low key, non corporate, and ticks all the boxes if, like us, you tire of hotels that could be just anywhere on the planet. We began with tea and biscuits in the farmhouse kitchen, marvelled at the well appointed room with ensuite and at day's end slept comfortably. Breakfast was a revelation (thankyou Mitzi ) with home made traditional choices and no stinting on portions. It was hard to leave The Old Ferry to explore the town beyond. We so appreciated Dan's advice on local attractions and found an excellent pub serving the best Guinness. The Old Ferry and its wonderful hosts provided this couple with simply the best weekend getaway, ever. We will return!

We’ve traveled all over the world, and we will be back to the ferry!!
Seamless changing of reservation details prior to arrival, walked in the door to a roaring fire, home baking, bread in the bread maker and a friendly but non intrusive host, perfect
This feels like a peaceful home, beautiful beds, lovely and warm with everything you need. Spotlessly clean, beautifully appointed. We loved every minute of it, it’s the perfect Qtown stop on our family tour ♥️ thanks Mitzi, Dan and whānau for taking such great care of ours

B & B’s are best represented by the hosts who run the property. Dan and Mitzi have found their calling with this property. They are the kind of people you could easily sit down with for the evening and chat the night away. The property itself is spotless and the rooms are exactly as depicted on their website and booking sites. There were many extra touches that impressed us. We received excellent travel suggestions, daily baked treats were welcoming us on return to the house, chocolates on our refreshed room, lush bath robes. The list could go on and on.
Breakfast is served in the main dining room and was as much a part of our daily enjoyment as our travels.
Individually prepared cooked breakfast was supplemented with additional, yogurt, cereal, toast, jams, coffee and juice.
We had an early morning flight so Mitzi prepared us a takeaway meal for the airport
Communication was prompt and the English gardens were in full bloom..
There is nothing I would change, EVERYTHING was perfect.
Thank you for being such great hosts and nice people.

A great B&B with history in a beautifil location situated conveniently between Queenstown and Arrowtown both accesible by public transport.

Lovely hosts and a fantastic choice for breakfast beautifully cooked. A lovely touch were the afternoon cakes/biscuuits freshly baked each day.

Great walks too from the hotel along and around the river.

One of our best stays in a trip across New Zealand.

As we approached this Bed and Breakfast it had the feeling of being cosy. We were not disappointed. Dan made us so welcome with a cup of tea and Mitzi had baked cookies for us and the other guests to share. Our room was in keeping with the age of the building but had all the modern necessities. The bed was comfortable and there was always hot water. Breakfast was taken in the communal dining area around a single table so the conversation flowed freely. There is a choice of hot breakfasts and a great range of cereals together with preserves a plenty to eat with your home baked bread. They offered excellent advice as to what to do and where to go. A most enjoyable 3 days and to be thoroughly recommended. We did however, miss the ability to make an early morning cup of tea in our room, this was available in the kitchen, but we would have to dress to do so.

From the blooming roses that greet you at the front door to the home made afternoon treats every day this place was perfection. What a lovingly restored old building and a charming couple who looked after our every need. Good local tips and amazing breakfasts. Wood fire on cold evenings and central heating at other times. And the place is full of history. Mitzi and Dan are the sort of hosts you can normally only dream of. We spent three nights here and on the one day I had to leave early Mitzi arranged a packed breakfast for me to have before I left. We were able to use the washing machine and dryer as well as store food in the fridge and we could have cooked in the well appointed kitchen if we had wanted to. There are great walks along the Shotover River starting 100 metres from the front door and Mitzi told us about a walking path through the fields to the local shops. A gem.

Hi Jane, There is all day parking on Gray Street in Frankton which is adjacent to the Bus Hub. We can advise in more detail and about logistics for your day trip when you arrive. We usually like to sit down and welcome all of our guests to help them make the most of their time here. Hope that helps, we look forward to hosting you next month. Kind regards Dan & Mitzi

There is a bus service which operates from Quail Rise on the other side of the historic bridge every hour. However we recommend our guests to have their own transport to make it more convenient. Having your own transport lets you access many more of the areas, walks, attractions that the area has on offer.

Hi is there air-conditioning and heater in the hotel?
Answer from MitziandDan
Queenstown, New Zealand11 contributions2 helpful votes
Our rooms don’t have cooling air conditioning as it generally isn’t needed in our climate. At night temperatures usually drop, and occasionally we may still need to light the fire in December. Our property has a large veranda which also provides shade and cooling for the front room and lounge. For the winter months and colder nights we have plenty of heating including the log burner, heat pump, central heating, heat transfer system, heated towel rails and electric blankets so our guests keep cosy and warm whatever the conditions outside.
