The setting of the resort is very scenic and inviting. Looking out to the surrounding of the resort in the morning with a cup of coffee sets a very positive tone for the day. The golf is challenging, but great.

The staff is great too overall. The only thing that could be better is the daily room service. We did not get new towels for 3 day at all although we were okay with it since we played 36 holes every day. that said, it would be nice to come back to the room to have fresh towels.

Decided to stay here for 3 nights, paid for an upgraded room wasn't told or advertised at the time of booking that there was no turn down service. Upon arrival was instructed for our 3 nights, there would be no turn down service for the room because of covid and anything we needed we were instructed to call housekeeping. The next day after check in, called the housekeeping number and left a voice mail for more coffee and shampoo, as instructed. Nothing arrived that day or night, the next day I ended up going down to the front desk to see what was going on. The front desk staff didn't seemed surprised nothing showed, no apology just handed me towels and the other items and sent me on my way, after seeming disgusted like I had asked them for something I wasn't entitled to. Oglebay is using covid as an excuse to not provide quality service you pay for. While the resort is nice, I would recommend staying someplace else that provides better service.

We just got back from an October weekend trip to Oglebay Resort and were very disappointed with the cleanliness of our room and the service from the staff. The facilities are a little outdated, but still very nice and it was a beautiful weekend. We started our trip at the Garden Bistro and our elderly waitress was very nice and professional. That was the end of the good service we received. Check in and Check Out staff were two young women who really did not care if we were there or not. Our room was in the Byrd wing and we knew that it was small and in the older part of the resort. We booked late so no problem. The problems began when we notice how dirty the sinks and counters were and that housekeeping had left us with 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper. The pool entrance was a maze to get to and the hot tub looked like it had been open since last year. It wasn't very enjoyable or relaxing. Dinner at Ihlenfeld"s was also a big let down. My crab cake dinner came out cold and tasted more like a spread and our waiter was just plain horrible. He took our order, tried to talk us into dessert and took our check like he didn't even want to be there! The next morning we tried Ihlenfeld's again for breakfast. We told the host that we DID NOT have a breakfast package and we're seated. After twenty minutes with out any contact from the waitstaff we got up and left. We have traveled to Florida, Washington, Oregon, and Colorado during this Pandemic year and this was BY FAR the worst experience we have had at any resort. Everyone we have met in our travels this year have gone out of their way to makes us feel welcome and have appreciated our business. Not Oglebay!

We checked into our room in the Lakeside section of the hotel. When we entered the room, the bench at the end of the bed had two long pullout drawers. The top drawer was open. I tried to close it, but it kept coming out. This would clearly pose a danger tripping over it at night. The fridge was not cold and the back wall was completely frozen over. I called the front desk to advise them of these problems. When I went to call the desk clerk about these issues, the phone and nightstand were covered in dust. The shower had a used piece of soap in the soap holder and shower tile floor was sticky. It was obvious that housekeeping didn’t clean the shower. I knew then that I made a mistake in booking a room at this hotel. The desk clerk told me that maintenance had already gone home, so they would send up someone from housekeeping. Someone did come. He placed a ripped rag cloth in the drawer. See picture attached. He told me someone from maintenance would come back the next day to fix the drawer. When we came back to our room later in the afternoon, the ripped rag was just sitting on the bench and the drawer stuck open. I went down to the front desk and told the desk clerk of my dissatisfaction of the way they handled the broken drawer and the complete lack of housekeeping in my room that I was paying over $170.00 a night for. She said there was nothing she could do, and that I could speak to the manager the next day. I asked her to please have the manager call me the next day. Never got a call. The furniture was banged up, there were no plugs by the nightstands, broken balcony chairs. So outdated! My reservation confirmation letter stated: “Our staff is committed to making your stay memorable, and we trust that every detail will exceed your expectations”. Well it was memorable! And not in a good way. The only good thing in our room was the fireplace.

We purchased the adult New Year's Eve package which included driving through the lights, an over night stay on New Year's Eve, a dinner buffet, a breakfast buffet, an open bar from 7 pm to after midnight, a glass of champagne at midnight, and small new year's eve tokens. It cost us $500 for the night which was very steep for what we actually got.
When we checked in at 3:30 new year's eve it was crazy in the front lobby with people and children everywhere. At the time there were two staff members trying to check people in and then they had a third person show up to help. It was chaotic and people were nasty because people, like us, headed for the shorter line and the people in the longer line were saying we were cutting in front of them. The lines needed to be separated by something to avoid fights amongst guests. The same thing happened when we checked out. I was not appreciative of someone getting in my face and getting nasty because she thought I was jumping in front of her. I told her she had a choice to move to the shorter line if she wanted!
Breakfast was ten times worse! They were understaffed and people were waiting an hour to an hour and a half to get seated and if you wanted an omelet you were waiting forever. There were kids everywhere touching the food. This was a very poor planned event when you had all of the adults and then you also had the new year's eve package with all the kids. Too many people with not enough staff to keep up.
We've stayed here before and the breakfast buffet is normally fantastic but with this many people it was terrible. The buffet we had in the banquet room was not good at all, very bland and a lot of the food was cold by the time we were able to get up to get our food.

My wife and I and another couple recently went to Oglebay for a getaway and to see the Festival of Lights. The rooms in the Wilson Lodge are very nice. Spacious, updated and clean. The Lodge has many different amenities under one roof that are good for all ages. The indoor pool and game room were frequented by many kids who were well behaved(Nice). The gathering room had Hot Chocolate urns and board games for all ages to enjoy, We also ate in both the Grill and the Restaurant. Both locations were nice. Staff at both were very friendly and attentive. The pub has a nice selection of local craft brews and the wine list is solid. Food was good. The Festival of Lights trolley was just long enough and a nice little break. Many displays my wife and the kids on the trolley really enjoyed. It's a little slow for my speed but it's not that long. Lastly, had a 50 minute massage in the West Spa. Very nice. The accommodations and service were excellent. That topped of the trip. There are other things to do there to fill a weekend(Golf, Glass Museum, Mansion, Zoo) but were not there too long.

We stayed in the Spiedel standard cottage this fast weekend. We had 2 family’s (4 adults, 4 children) in a cabin that was supposed to fit 16. For the amount of money we paid for this “cottage” was absurd for the lack of quality and cleanliness we experienced. IT WAS DISGUSTING. This should be totally unacceptable, especially during COVID times. The floors were so dirty it appeared they hadn’t been cleaned in months. We took a wipe to the floor and with one swipe the entire wipe was black. We also had to wipe down every horizontal surface with disinfectant wipes and were surprised to find that many of the common surfaces in the kitchen and bedrooms were dirty and black as well. We found bits of bacon and crumbs on the dining room table. It was obvious they didn’t clean the cottage before we came. I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone, let alone families looking for a place with small children. We spent most of our vacation disinfecting pacifiers, sippy cups, and toys that the kids let fall on the floor. The furniture was old and uncomfortable, and the beds were lumpy and at least 15 years old.

If you’re looking to have a bunch of people in a cabin for a bachelor party to drink and pass out, this might be a good place for you.

We did inform the front desk of that state of our “cottage” and we’re told “sorry” and that’s about it.

We won’t be staying again!

There was an ozone generator laying right outside our door when we arrived. This indicated to me that it was used right before we arrived to mask the smell of smoke. Hotel rooms should be vacant for a period of time after these machines are used. Also, as soon as we arrived at about 5, we called and asked for a rolling bed and the person who answered said there is no way that housekeeping could get anything there that night- they were too understaffed. We had to pull 2 chairs together for our 5 year old to sleep on. Terrible customer service. Interestingly enough, as soon as I mentioned the machine, they IMMEDIATELY came and removed it, yet they never brought the bed I asked for.

1st let me say we drove 2.5 hours for our trip for spring break. The room was ready early which was a plus and the grounds were great and beautiful and the staff is friendly for the most part. Saturday there were tons of activities, pool, movies, games, etc. then on Sunday there were no family activities. The pool was closed due to filter issues and then half of the game room games was non operational. We went to dinner and the staff only had two folks working and they were complaining to us although they were smiling the whole time. The room we had was dirty hair on floor, ice bucket not emptied trash on floor. The worst part when I went to the front desk to tell them these issues I was told sorry nothing I can do. I find this unacceptable for any where you stay especially a resort like this will not return and will not recommend based on how my complaints were brushed off or even ignored.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, Walter. While we are delighted to hear you enjoyed the scenery, friendly staff, and weekend activities Oglebay, we sincerely apologize for the remainder of your experience. We've taken note of your feedback on the lack of programming on Sunday and are pleased to say we will be incorporating plenty of Sunday activities into our schedule moving forward. We are terribly sorry to have had to close the indoor pool for unexpected maintenance and certainly regret that this was an added inconvenience to your stay. We do our best to prevent these issues through our annual scheduled pool closures, but unfortunately, we were unable to prepare for this particular malfunction. In regard to the housekeeping and customer service issues, please know this is not the experience we strive to provide at Oglebay, and we are currently taking necessary measures to ensure these issues are prevented in the future. We appreciate the opportunity to improve and hope you will consider visiting us again soon.

Checked in to a completely unclean room. Hair everywhere, food in the carpet, bed just remade, toothpaste and spit everywhere. The room was marked as clean and inspected, also being signed off on. The cleaning person even tried to put a seal on the toilet to show cleaned and pass it off. Absolutely horrifying and disgusting. The furniture needs thrown out and the carpet is just as bad.
