Detailed Reviews
I rented fisherman’s cabin 24. The cabin was very large, and could hold a lot of people. So if you are going with a group there’s plenty of room. The room itself seemed relatively old. There was low pressure in all of the sinks and the shower. The shower curtain had mold all over it. There was no shampoo. The bed was comfortable. Overall, the quality of the room was a 2.
While I was there in winter, I could not enjoy the back patio overlooking the river. I noticed another commenter mention the road noise. I didn’t find it to be an issue, but the cars go by pretty quickly out front. So it might be a problem for light sleepers. I always carry ear plugs.
I think the most important issue to be aware of is that there is no Internet. In fact, if you want to have Internet you have to go to the general store in town, which is perhaps half a mile away. And they close at seven or 8 o’clock at night. So expect to have no connectivity while you are in this town. I had no mobile service on Verizon.
I gave it 3 stars because given the size of the cabin I think it is a decent value.

Overall, we liked the stay, if not for the person, who lives in "The general store". Our Teepee was next to it. He was drunk on the night we were there. Loud, obnoxious and he had a gun on his hip, what for, who knows. His group was partying half in the night, with VERY loud music. It was impossible to sleep. Other, than that, the price was worth the stay and so close to Seneca Rocks.

My wife and I stayed two nights at Yokum’s in one of the "new" cabins - Cabin 2.
On the plus side -- great view of Seneca Rocks, picturesque cabin, clean, comfortable bed, outdoor Jacuzzi, picnic table and charcoal grill.
On the minus side -- DOA heating and cooling, smoky fireplace, do-it-yourself fire fixings, shoddy maintenance, staff with attitude, heavy daytime truck noise from highway, indoor pool heater busted, very few cable channels.
Really, at first blush this looked like a very nice rental. But there were issues...
The issues started when we went to the office to pick up the key. The girl there failed to check which cabin we had reserved. She tried to put us in Cabin 1, when I had specifically reserved Cabin 2 (I thought my wife would appreciate the rustic staircase.)
Once we got that fixed she told us the heater in the indoor pool at the lodge was not working and that the water was cold. She told us the heater was new. When I diplomatically said, "That's disappointing", her reaction was, "Tell me about it." That was as close as we got to an apology. A discount? Get real…
When we got to the cabin we were impressed. It looked very nice. It was clean inside and well equipped – full-size refrigerator/freezer, full-size electric range/oven, over-the-range microwave. But no dishwasher or garbage disposal. Okay, not a biggie.
When I checked the thermostat I found we had both central heat and air-conditioning. But when I tested the heat I found the blower made a racket – like the fan was hitting its housing. I almost decided to go back to the office and complain, but decided we could get by without either heat or A/C for two nights (and we did, no problem.)
There are one and a half baths. The downstairs bath has a regular bathtub with shower. But the toilet seat was a padded, vinyl-covered unit that had passed its use-by date. Cracked and sagging. Another aw-heck-we’ll-live-with-it item.
The upstairs half-bath looked okay, but we never used it.
We had two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed. Both bedrooms were bare-minimum size for one bed and a second-hand dresser. There were no nightstands, no chairs. We only used one bed and that proved to be comfortable.
The upstairs loft had another five beds, mostly singles, one double. So in total the cabin could have slept 10 people, if you had a couple upstairs that were willing to share a bed without any privacy. But ten people in that cabin would have been tripping all over each other downstairs. Just not enough room.
The kitchen had a drawer with the end ripped off. Said end was stored inside the broken drawer. The paper towel rack was also broken. Eh, okay. We’ll live with it.
I also found there were several lightbulbs burned out. And the layout of the light switches was strange. It wasn’t until the second night that I found one of the main light switches – hidden behind the refrigerator.
The real disappointment came when we decided to make a fire in the fireplace. That is something I know how to do. I checked that the flue was open. We made use of firewood apparently left by the previous tenant. I found out why. As soon as I got the fire going the cabin began to fill with smoke. I had to open the upstairs windows and door to clear the air. After a while – fifteen or twenty minutes – the chimney warmed up enough that it started to draw the smoke, and we could finally enjoy the fire.
The next night, same drill. We bought firewood from folks who stopped by in a pickup, selling us a good load of wood for $5.00. But when I got the fire going the cabin started to fill up with smoke again. No fun.
The staff’s reaction to hearing about the smoke-you-out fireplace was, “Did you open the flue? Yes? Well, huh.” Not that I expected more, but I thought I’d mention it and see if I was doing something wrong.
That does explain why the previous tenant had left their firewood for us.
The staff did say the chimney had been swept by the local fire department recently. So bad maintenance may not be the issue. It may simply be bad design. (Actually that's worse. Bad maintenance can be fixed with good maintenance. Bad design you have to do heavy repair, minimum.)
Setting aside the smoke problem, Yokum's provided nothing for a romantic evening by the fire except a few cheap fire tools. No wood. No lighter or matches. No fire starters. They didn't even have them for sale at the lodge. You had to go out and buy your own at their general store in town or (better) at the outfitters across the street.
Another corner cut to save a couple bucks and take a little more of the romance out of the weekend. Not appropriate for what we were paying.
The one night we decided to watch television was a bust. There were maybe six cable channels. We found one showing a movie, but it was so chopped up with endless strings of commercials that we finally got tired of it and went to bed.
No, I don't go on vacation to watch television. And maybe I can't blame Yokum's for the sparse cable service. But for some people TV is the background of their lives. Don't go to Yokum's if you need that fix.
Now the outdoor Jacuzzi was a definite winner. The cover was big and heavy. We decided to leave it half-on and half-off. The controls were cryptic. But once we got it open, turned on and heated up, oh honey! Very, very nice. That almost made up for all the disappointments! We made good use of the Jacuzzi.
All in all, not a horrible weekend, but well short of what I’d hoped for.
There may be better places to rent cabins. The cabins near Smoke Hole Caverns, a few miles up the road, could be better. But they are smaller, and the layout is more like a trailer park for cabins. Yokum’s wins for picturesque.
For simple comfort and convenience a Holiday Inn Express would have Yokum’s beat all hollow. And definitely cheaper. But if you’re willing to put up with some serious disappointments, and pay heavily for the privilege, Yokum’s might suit.

My husband and I took our motorhome to Yokum's Vacationland. He had stayed there 20plus years ago. We travel around the US. Stopped here before going to DC. It was so amazing. You pick out your site then go pay. Sam Yokum greeted us at our campsite within minutes of arriving. He asked if he could do anything for us. It is in the valley below Seneca Rocks, WV. The campsites on one side are directly next to a crystal clear river. The back of the motorhome over the river at night was amazing. The sound will put you right to sleep.
There is horseback riding and rock climbing up to Seneca Rocks readily available.
The Yokum's store and Deli are within two minutes of the campground and they have everything you could possibly need. The people that work there are all very kind. Bradley was wonderful as was everyone else.
If you want to get away from phone calls and email you are in the right place. I do think internet will make it there eventually (per Sam and his niece:). We had the opportunity to disconnect and really enjoy each other. Had a lot of fun watching all the campfires and meeting new people. We stayed an extra night.
Hope to make it back soon...Thanks for wonderful memories.

My wife and I did not stay in the hotel, but in one of their fishermen's cabins. From the standpoint of a cabin, it had all the necessities: spacious kitchen area, good bedrooms and living area, and an adequate bathroom. However, as the cabin is not nestled in a cozy, sylvan location but right next to a busy highway, the traffic noise was unbearable. We had a 2-night reservation but left after one night: it was just too loud to sleep!

What a great weekend in WV, Yokums was a big part of it, we started off by getting to cabin N4 and it was just about perfect. Now was this a four star hotel, well no but if that’s what you’re expecting you shouldn’t be renting a cabin in the middle of no where West Virginia, that said I don’t think we could have asked for much more it was clean, comfortable, warm and the views were spectacular.
The kitchen had the basic utensils and pots and pans, toaster, coffee maker with Maxwell house coffee. The whole place was in great shape and the king size bed was very comfortable. The shower and jacuzzi were just as expected and had fresh towels upon arrival.
The store and cafe was just the icing on the cake, after a long day on the trails a quick hot meal that we didn’t have to cook was perfect! The food and service was awesome, I’d recommend that massive cheesesteak sandwich!
Now to the not so good, the cabin we had N4 was really close ( like 12 ft) to the road, we heard traffic most of the night. We had friends in the motel, and some of the other cabins and while the motel is also fairly loud none were quite this close to the road.
The Yokum family has been taking care of travelers for over 100 years and they know what they are doing. We will certainly be back!

My husband and I stayed in Fisherman's Cabin 21 and found it pretty comfortable and clean. When we first arrived and got settled I started making dinner. There was hardly any silverware available and utensils like spatula's weren't there but that was quickly remedied by letting them know at the office that those things were needed. Within a couple of hours they had us stocked up on silverware and utensils and the rest of our stay was uneventful. When we booked we didn't realize just how close to the highway the cabin was and while we were in the main part of the cabin it meant turning up the volume on the tv or the device playing audiobooks while he was out fishing, but once in the bedroom we were able to sleep undisturbed.

I have been visiting Yokums for over 20 years. The staff are always super nice and I have always been satisfied with the different accommodations I've booked. People complaining about the place should have taken the time they wasted writing bad reviews to research the property. This is not a 5 star resort. Its rustic and cute and great for the price. If you want to stay at the Four Seasons, then book your reservation there. The views are awesome and for those who know how to enjoy nature, this place is great. Hiking, rock climbing, fishing and swimming just to name a few. I have another visit booked for August this year and I can't wait to get away from the hustle and bustle. If you're one of "those" who live to play on your phone, this is not the place for you. Go to a holiday inn express with free wifi. You wont find that nonsense here and it's quite refreshing!

I’d ready some negative reviews so I wanted to add my own. We rented this because we needed to work on our own camp and was afraid we couldn’t sleep there.
Super clean and it really fit the bill. It’s tough finding a place in this area that’s affordable. This cabin doesn’t have all the bells and whistles which is why it so affordable. So remember that!

We decided to splurge a little and stay in the Couple's Retreat cabin. We loved it! It was spacious, had a well-equipped kitchen, grill fire pit, places to sit outside, a TV, recliner couches, 2-person jacuzzi tub, and a beautiful view of Seneca Rocks. We were able to sit outside in the evening without any bug issues. The cabin was clean and comfortable, and the store down the road was fantastic when we realized we forgot a food item. No internet, but we could get on Wi-Fi easily when we went to the store. The cabin was close to the road, but we had no issues sleeping. We'll probably stay there again!
