Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

During the Civil War McMechen (pronounced McMecken) House was taken over by both Union and Confederate officers. Pictures of Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant grace first floor fireplaces as a reminder. We were in town to do some genealogical research. We parked free in a paved lot adjacent to the B&B. All guest rooms are upstairs on 2nd or 3rd floors (no elevator). We had booked two nights in the spacious McCoy Suite with a king bed, private bath, front sitting room, and a work desk. The room is directly above the bar which quieted down around 10 pm (Wednesday is “open mic” night). But at 1:30 am, a burst of loud music (some say it was a mysterious ghost!) jolted us awake. The next day our complaint generated a move to Elizabeth’s Bedroom over the dining room. Both the McCoy and Elizabeth’s were very clean and nicely furnished with antiques and minimum do-dads. The vintage bathrooms need serious updating and we were told that’s in the works. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent with generous portions, and breakfast was well presented: juice, fresh fruit, waffles and sausage patties. Sondra, the on-site manager, went above and beyond to be helpful and we were sorry to say goodbye. The fairly-new owner gave us a discount for the inconvenience of changing rooms, and he is working hard to fine-tune this interesting property.

Newly renovated and opened by owner Dennis Adams this historic landmark is better and more beautiful than ever before. With its new tavern and coffeeshop it offers something for everyone. Their coffees, pastries, lunches and dinners are new and inventive. This is a real go to place if you're out in HardyCounty.
