Ah, Soho Farmhouse, the rural retreat where the grass is green, the pools are pristine, and the chickens are… well, let’s just say they’ve seen better days. It’s the kind of place where you can bask in the glory of the British summer, assuming you can navigate through the fog of culinary despair. Let’s talk about Pen Yen, shall we? It’s the kind of place that makes you wonder if ‘fusion’ is just another word for confusion. The food arrives with the speed of a gazelle and the price tag of a small luxury car. If you’re into thematic, mass-produced cuisine that’s as authentic as my love for caravans, then you’re in for a treat. Then there’s the Main Barn, the beating heart of Soho’s fast-food empire. Forget your dreams of a Michelin star experience; this is where fine dining goes to die. It’s a symphony of mediocrity, a place where the term ‘gastropub’ is as out of place as a diesel engine at a Tesla convention. And who could forget the Hay Barn? It’s quaint, it’s cozy, and it’s the perfect spot to ponder life’s great mysteries, like how they manage to make pizza and pasta as exciting as watching paint dry. But hey, at least the ice cream’s cold and the coffee’s hot, right? Now, about that roast chicken. It arrives at your table with the enthusiasm of a teenager asked to clean their room. The skin’s as soggy as a British bank holiday, and the chips are… well, they’re chips. It’s food, technically. Edible, yes, but it’s the kind of meal that leaves you with a lingering sense of existential dread. But let’s not be too harsh. After all, Soho Farmhouse is the place to see and be seen, even if it’s through the tears of gastronomic grief. It’s the culinary equivalent of ‘if McDonald’s did fine dining’ – and who wouldn’t want a Big Mac with a side of caviar? So come for the scenery, stay for the socialising, and if you’re hungry… maybe bring a sandwich. Just kidding. Sort of.

We sat in our coats in the restaurant for the full meal as it was so cold. We told the member of staff at the end but there was no apology , just agreed with us and said no one knew how to use the thermostat. The Soho brand in general has lost its personal touch , rude staff, everything booked up, people twitchy with their phones just in case they see a ‘celebrity’. Been a member for 12 years and I’m certainly done. It’s not worth the membership.

Had a fantastic long weekend. Shooting, horse riding, swimming & spa. Ate & drank far too much. Can’t wait to come back. It was freezing cold but plenty of places to warm up with roaring fires all over the place. Main Barn & Pen Yen for dinner & drinks which were fantastic but stand out was The Little Bell. Can’t book that one but worth trying to get a table. Looking forward to coming back in the summer.

A fantastic two night stay here. We stayed in a “garden room” overlooking open fields and a short walk from the main farmyard. All parts are easily accessible. Bikes are scattered around and can be used and left for the next person. Clay pigeon shooting was a fun experience as was the horse riding, albeit a little “light” for the experienced rider. Pool is a good addition and has a mixed indoor and heated outdoor option. Food and drinks were top class. Best of the best is the “Little Bell”. No bookings on this one…first come first served. But what a treat Service was exceptional throughout. Can’t wait to return

What is abundantly clear about Soho House is they have outgrown their original facilities and need to upgrade them. The pool is like a human soup it’s so small and only had about 15 beds dotted around it. Can’t relax at the pool, no problem, I’ll get a spa treatment instead. Can’t. It’s fully booked. No problem I’ll book into those cute little outdoor jacuzzis instead. Can’t. It’s fully booked. Outside of this there is little else to do except walk around so paying in excess of £700 a night to stay in a hut in a field left me feeling like I had been rather ripped off. More fool me I know. The only things that saves this place is the restaurants are good and not extortionate, good wines at reasonable prices. The bar is cool and the decor is divine. All that being said doesn’t really justify the mark up when considering your poor, poor facilities. P.s. prides itself on being “arty” and exclusive. My experience was the place was overrun with trust fund kids who parents obviously had a second home in the Cotswolds. Not a problem, perfectly pleasant clientele but the whole thing just felt like a sham when you actually peered behind the curtain.

I don’t normally do reviews but I wanted to on this experience. I had a brilliant stay at Soho Farmhouse, from the the moment I arrived I was met with really friendly and welcoming staff. My room was upgraded because it was my birthday and when I got to the Farm hut it was beautiful - the stunning little details like having a card for my birthday; relaxing classical music in your room as you walk and the exquisite bed. For the evening I went to main barn it’s incredibly cosy and the service was impeccable. I can’t recommend this place enough if you are looking for secluded luxury, an opportunity to completely disconnect from the hustle and bustle - Soho Farmhouse is it; you feel very cared for and at peace. I left with an overwhelming feeling of a new lease of life. It’s intoxicating beauty of getting up to a view and sounds of the birds. If you haven’t been book your stay you won’t regret it!

I have been a soho house member for 3 years and just returned from a 2 night stay at the farmhouse. The accommodations (piglet) was incredibly adorable, cozy and warm and had a great comfy bed. The food across the main barn, Pen Yen and the bakery were excellent, incredible value for money and always with impeccable customer service. We swam, did clay shooting (excellent instructor), saw a film at the electric cinema, had a great spa treatment and cycled all over the grounds. Every service detail was amazing! Thank you for a fabulous end of year getaway! This is a beautiful location, even for a rainy and windy few days - I can’t wait to go back in the spring and summer!!!! Happy New Year to a great hotel and amazing hard work ing staff!!!!

I stayed here for a couple of nights and was fortunate enough to get great weather to enjoy the surroundings of the farmhouse. It’s a lovely place to bike around. The lodges/cabins are cosy but spacious with lovely toiletries and complimentary treats. The food we had was great with good variety of places to eat and tasty food. The service was good but it can be a bit of a wait if you need to get around and you do not walk or bike (more at night when it’s dark).

In the grand scheme of things, absolutely awful stay in terms of value for money. First of all, staff came across incredibly snobbish and unpleasant. I get the sense that they think their customers should feel honoured to be at their farmhouse, as opposed to making them feel super welcomed to their stay. Facilities were very not very accessible and considering we were staying here, we weren’t made at all to feel a priority in terms of booking into activities on site. The food at Pen Yen was way below average, the staff are either poorly trained or are incredibly disgruntled, most probably because they’re not working within a good culture. Speaking to other Soho Farmhouse members, it’s starting to make a lot more sense where the brand is really falling apart, where commercially they are probably under a lot of pressure, the vibe has certainly changed. There isn’t that sense of exclusivity anymore, people aren’t particularly friendly. We saw a group of 3-4 guys passing class a drugs in the Mill last night (pub within the grounds), to the level that other people could see. They seemed pretty loud and boisterous throughout the evening, my guess is they are relatively new members and haven’t been properly vetted by the staff. We tried to upgrade our stay before we came and the staff said there was no availability. On site after being slightly persistent, we managed to get an upgrade - simply because the staff began to make effort when we confronted them. It seems like they’re pretty dishonest to customers who aren’t full-time members. I’ve recently purchased a full membership and I won’t be renewing this, I will look to cancel just like a lot of my friends and family. I would highly recommend that people look at joining Estelle Manor (beautiful location) within Oxfordshire, great vibe + people, and certainly making better noise than Soho farmhouse. The things I liked about Soho farmhouse - main barn (customer service here was good + food), Clay pigeon shooting was also fun, ran by a lovely gentleman. The gym and spa facilities are also good. Apart from that, the staff are super obnoxious.
