The Inn at Abbott Farm is nestled in the stunning Lost River Valley of West Virginia. Built in the 1860's, our historic home was the first in the area to have electricity. We have lovingly renovated & restored it to its former grandeur. Truly a Farm to Table experience; we raise our own organic chickens, eggs, ducks, turkeys, pigs, vegetables and fruit. We also make our own bacon and sausage.

My wife & I wanted to break up our trip from Pittsburgh to Washington,DC with an overnight stay in West Virginia. We were looking for a unique B&B experience and we found it at The Inn at Abbott Farm.

Upon our arrival we were greeted by Sidney, the most mild mannered well behaved dog you'll ever meet & the owner, Bob. We had a bit of a scare when we saw a surprised look on Bob's face when we pulled up. A slight miscommunication had him thinking we were checking in the next day. But luckily there was a room available for us and we all had a good laugh at the situation. Bob swiftly prepared our accommodations as we went off to dinner at the only restaurant in town.

After some seriously good comfort food from the Lost River Grill down the road we went back to the Farm. Bob took us to our room, the "Charles Donald;" we later learned it was named after the owners' fathers. The room was cozy and clean with excellent space heaters. The Bathroom was a definite highlight of the "Charles Donald." It featured a very modern sink with two faucets, bidet and a HUGE walk in shower with a pebble stone floor and walls.

The rest of the evening we enjoyed some wine and relaxed in the living room by their Christmas tree and corn stove while Bob shared stories of how he and his wife, Lisa, transformed the Inn at Abbott Farm into a beautiful B&B in just one year.

Breakfast the next morning was incredible. Nothing beats farm fresh eggs. The bacon and sausage were out of this world too.

After breakfast Bob took us on a great tour of their four acre property and along the way we got to meet the other residents including Petunia, their pet Turkey who has trouble with turkey husbands (have Bob tell you the story of Petunia's lovers). We also met the farms chickens and thanked them for breakfast.

Overall, we had a wonderful stay at The Inn at Abbott Farm. Bob was a perfect host. We were sorry we didn't get the chance to meet his wife Lisa, she was away that week. However, we communicated with her quite a bit through email and she was very responsive & professional to work with.

If you're a fan of the complete "farm to table" experience then book a stay here now!

A few things to consider when booking your stay.

1.) You must be comfortable with animals. As you can guess, farm living brings its share of four legged & two legged friends. But I guess if you're already looking at staying here you're cool with animals.

2.) If you have AT&T as your cell phone carrier you will probably not have service. Our iPhones didn't during our stay. The house does have great WiFi so you can always take advantage of a free Internet phone service or iMessage.

3.) Dining and shopping options very limited. Lost River Grill is really you're only dining option. But it's a nice warm, friendly place with great food.

4.) Great location if you are planning to explore Lost River State Park

We need a higher rating system. We never imagined how much we would enjoy our visit to the Inn at Abbott Farm. What a terrific getaway from the Washington DC area. A week later my wife is still raving about her experiences at the Inn and the Lost River State Park. She never imagined how much she would enjoy gathering eggs from the hen house, assisting in the garden, horseback riding at the State Park or just wandering the grounds. The evening bonfire and Cauliflower Soup prepared by Chef Vincent was a superb bonus. Just watching Vincent in the kitchen was a learning experience (essentially a free cooking lesson). Lisa is a wonderful host and Eiko and I had a memorable experience. Thanks Lisa and Chef Vincent for making our trip such a memorable event.

The Inn at Abbott Farm is a hidden jewel! We went there for a Mother's Day weekend to get a break from city noise and commotion, and it was just a perfect place! Located in gorgeous rural area of WV, right by the creek and just a couple of miles away from the Lost River State park, the Inn is a perfect getaway. The owners, Lisa and Mike, are the sweetest people ever! And Lisa's farm-to-table breakfast is to die for! We stayed at the Doctor's Office, which is a separate building next to the main house. I love how the whole place has preserved its historic flair. The Inn itself was built in 1900! The house could easily be a museum!!! Mike gave us a tour of the house and the farm. Just wonderful! We enjoyed every minute of our stay. Looking forward to staying at their place again soon!

We stayed in the Doctors Office at the Inn. It was cozy and unique, and located near a rippling stream. Staying on a working farm was such a great experience. We woke up to a rooster's crow:). The owners, LIsa and Bob, are so warm and welcoming. Right from the start, you are relaxed and comfortable, and that's largely because of them! Our breakfasts were delicious....bacon, sausage, eggs (all from the farm!), fruit, pancakes, croissants and homemade jams. Fantastic! The surrounding area is lovely and peaceful, with some great diners and quaint little shops. We will definitely return, and highly recommend the Inn at Abbotts Farm!

This small, charming farm and b&b in the mountains of West Virginia is a real treat. Waking up in a lovely, quirky room with luxurious linens and a lot of handcrafted style to the sounds of a rooster and goats was just fantastic. This is a working farm and has lots of animals, a very friendly dog, chickens, a turkey, and a large garden. The room we stayed in has great style and is modern although it has a lot of farm-house style with sweeping views from the large Palladian window into the fields. The owners are warm, welcoming, and we enjoyed our time chatting with them on the farmhouse porch and in the large, busy kitchen. They really foster a sense of camaraderie and friendship with the other guests, and we all enjoyed a lively breakfast conversation. One of the other couples joined us for the day to visit state park and a winery in the region. Lisa and Bob (the owners) have really created a special place to get away and relax ... we will definitely be returning to this little slice of heaven.

We were on a road trip and wanted to check out the Lost River area on our way to DC. So glad we made the detour to find The Inn at Abbott Farm and were able to explore this unspoiled area of West Virginia. Lisa and Bob have done a wonderful job restoring the farm buildings and making them not only comfortable, but with an obvious creative style that is humorous and fun. We stayed in the Dr.'s Office...sweet little place with an incredible bathtub! You can sit on the front porch and really relax....enjoying the sounds of the little creek that runs through the property, or just watch the clouds fly by over head. Of course, food can sometimes be disappointing at B & B's, but it seems to be a priority here. The coffee was really GOOD, as was all of the food since most of it is sourced from the farm. The folks, Lisa and Bob, want their guests to relax, enjoy a "farm stay" and take in the beauty of the Lost River area.

We stayed in the Doctor's Office, a detached little cottage next to the main farm house. It was absolutely perfect. We arrived later than expected, and Lisa had a tray of snacks ready for us, it was very thoughtful. The cottage itself is perfect for two people. There is a mini-fridge for your snacks and drinks, and they had a bottle of wine in there for us if we cared for it. There are all the basics if you want to fix some tea or coffee, and even a stove-top if you wanted to cook.

I was really worried in the morning when I started to hear the rooster, but even the rooster seemed to be in on letting us unwind and sleep in a bit by only crowing twice. Bob and Lisa's breakfast was amazing, farm-fresh eggs right from their own chickens, wonderful pancakes, home made jams and jellies, (bacon if you're into that) croissants, coffee, juice, and the best home made granola I've had. Lisa even sent us home with a bag of granola.

Bob and Lisa are friendly hosts that will chat with you, or give you space if you want solitude. Lisa showed us around the farm, hillariously introducing our dog to the animals.

The location is great, right between a bunch of great parks with hiking, fishing, scenic views, and more.

I highly recommend a stay.

Our stay at the Inn at Abbott Farm was absolutely amazing. Lisa and Bob understand what it's like to provide an exceptional stay for everyone, they truly treat you like family. We stayed during 4th of July weekend, which provided us with a peaceful weekend away from your normal stay at a contested beach. They gave great suggestions on what to do locally (loved the lake at the top of the mountain) and allowed us and our 2 year old to really enjoy the animals there. I really cannt say enough about what a great weekend we had. If you're looking for a chance to forget about life and enjoy the country side, look no further than The Inn At The Abbott. We will be returning for sure!

Bob and Lisa are outstanding hosts, friendly, gracious and attentive. The Inn at Abbott Farm is truly a farm to table b&b experience with fresh produce and food from the property. Bob and Lisa have restored the original farmhouse to it's full grandeur. I stayed in the Doctor's Office (circa 1916) detached from the main house. Super clean, full size bear claw tub for a nice bath, full kitchen, memory foam mattress (amazing) and cute front porch by the creek. I slept like a Queen and woke up to the bird's singing. Amazing experience, a rural oasis. The hosts provided bottled water, coffee and left a bottle of wine and cheese plate the evening of my stay. Lisa also prepared homemade granola for the way home.

Bob and Lisa have also amassed an impressive art collection (including Richard Prince). The Inn at Abbott Farm is also filled with contemporary art. The art collection alone is worth the trip.

I highly recommend staying at the Inn at Abbott Farm. A gem of a B&B with fun loving hosts, great food and just a short drive from DC/Baltimore.

Such great people and beautiful setting at the Inn. The farm is so fun to explore and collecting fresh eggs from their chicken house for our breakfast was delightful. Loved cuddling with the baby goats, reading under the shade tree by the stream, and so very much enjoyed chatting with the innkeepers, Lisa and Bob. Really lovely people! Beautiful room, and a great night's sleep followed by Lisa's bountiful and delicious breakfast. Can't wait to return! Thanks guys for a great weekend!

Not sure I know how to use this trip advisor process. WE'd like to visit mid-week some time, for lunch, and we assume we'd have to give you some advance notice to assemble the food, etc. Suggestions?
