Detailed Reviews
We took our horses and stayed at the horse campground. Electric, water, and sewer hookups at each site. 10' x 10' pipe corrals for the horses, all of them shaded. Primitive camp otherwise -- no showers, bathhouse, gift shop, concession, etc. but we didn't go to shop and primp. We went to ride. The trails are fantastic. We saw LOTS of wild game. We went Sunday--Tuesday and were literally the only people at the horse campground and the only people riding the trails -- a 4,000 acre private wilderness, all to ourselves.
Big Ridge also has a campground for just regular campers, which has a bathhouse and toilets and sites available ranging from tents to big rigs.

I went with my horse and some 4-H friends and we all loved it! When we went, there was only one other person in the horse campground. The Lost River trails were beautiful and the owners were very nice. They checked on us a few times a day and gave us everything needed. They also told us about the trails. The sites are large with a lot of shade and parking and the horse pens were a good size. It's very peaceful and quiet. However, the horse campsite was rather hard to find. We drove through the actual campsite, finding nothing. We drove past a few roads and had to turn around. 45 minutes later we found the lane we were supposed to take to go to the campsite. It's called Tusing Lane. But once there we all had a blast! I definately recommend.

Lovely rustic campground well shaded in the woods, Full hookup up sites and the best is I could bring my horse along and ride. What makes Big Ridge so special is the folks that own & run it. Best service (above and beyond anywhere I have been) personal care for each camper or group of campers. Full knowledge of the trails nearby and the general area. Beautiful places to ride your horse or hike. Very peaceful and relaxing. I would return again for sure!!!

We camped here with our horses and friends for about a week. The owners were wonderful, very friendly and helpful, showed us the trails and checked on us every day. They even brought us hay when we ran out! The trails had good footing for our horses and great views of the mountains! The outside stalls for the horses were great! They were close to us, which is what we love when we're camping. We really enjoyed our time here and hope to be back in the future!

This was a lovely getaway for Memorial Day Weekend. The drive to the campground was beautiful, with scenic overlooks and green trees at every turn. We were tent camping, so I wasn't sure what to expect since Big Ridge (judging from their website) seemed to be mostly RVs. We were very pleasantly surprised to have a huge tent site (sites #9 and #10) with two picnic tables and lots of grass and shade. It was more than enough room for our 4 tents, shade tent, and 3 cars to park. Nice stream running behind our site and plenty of trees to hang hammocks. We were able to hike at adjacent Lost River State Park which had gorgeous views. Horseback riding is also available. The bath house was very clean and the showers were hot. Overall this was a great place and we will definitely be back.

We booked here for a quick getaway in our camper from the greater DC area. For the cost, this campground is easily a five star review. Most of the larger chains would easily charge double what Big Ridge costs.
There are several hiking trails that you can access right from the campground and a horseback riding stable just down the road. Its very quiet during off weekends (not sure about holiday weekends though) which was great for sitting around by a campfire at night.
The sites aren't huge, but I was able to get my 31' travel trailer into them just fine. I would definitely recommend it for anyone in the area.
Side note - Verizon cell phones do not work here (Heaven for us, torture for some I'm sure).

Clean bathhouse (only one for the whole place, but it's sufficient); hot water. Spigots near each campsite. No tent pads, but we found a sufficient place for ours. Quiet, small, peaceful. We had a lovely stream running by our campsite (#6). Adjacent to riding stables and hiking.

about 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive for us, but well worth it, this is the best place to getaway!, the owners are very accommodating. quiet and restful place, there's no cell service, so no one can bother you. If you are pulling camper, do not listen to GPS!! we've been there 3 + times and we absolutely love it here! :-)

Nice campsites, adequate bathrooms. We were the only people in the whole campground at the time so it certainly was quiet. We camped right by the creek and cooked out over the fire pit that was there.

One of my favorite places to camp and ride. Four and a half hours from Chesapeake Virginia. This is a private campground but Lost River State park has a pool you can pay to go in only minutes from campground also country store to pick up other items you may need while camping at Big Ridge Camp Ground.. Also local nice places to eat and shop. Not big business but nice country places to visit.
