We LOVED this place! It is a restored farm house, really cozy and full of charm! The rooms are adequate; not large and pretty simple, but comfortable. All 4 rooms have nice, private bathrooms and the bedding and linens are great quality. The restaurant next door offers good food with a nice variety. The area is absolutely beautiful and great if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday. Definitely take a trip to Lost River State Park...it's beautiful, eveb in the middle of a snowstorm. Also be sure to check out the Lost River General Store; great local buys and a delicious little cafe. Overall, this was what I would consider a perfect destination for a weekend escape.

Very rarely do I feel compelled to write a review IMMEDAITELY after I return from a trip but after the fabulous weekend I had at Lost River, I can't imagine waiting. My boyfriend purchased the Living Social deal as a present to me for my birthday but honestly, it was a gift for both of us. The stress of everyday life was at an ultimate high and a serene, remote retreat was exactly what we needed. The house is warm and welcoming, clean and fresh. You basically feel like you have a home in WV. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure you have the comforts to make your stay enjoyable. Although the house was full, we didn't really frequently see any of the guests and the owners don't "hover". Just a friendly smile and a "how's everything going" and that's it. We brought snacks to eat but mostly ate at the local diner. For a 2 night stay, there was plenty to choose from but if we had stayed longer, that might have become a little repetitious. It's a very simple place and they are very up front with the fact it's not a place to for nightlife activity or shopping. It's a home away from home geared to allow you time to decompress and rehydrate your mind, spirit and body. The state parks (we went to George Washington Forrest) that are local have breathtaking views and the view from the front porch of the B&B looks like something God himself painted. It really makes you appreciate the beauty we constantly oversee trying to get to the next stop in our everyday grind.

The GM - Larry, seems to work 24/7; manager, bartender, and server - you name it-this man does it, and does it WELL. We had a hiccup with our dinner experience and he went above and beyond to correct it to the point where we felt bad even bringing it up! If the B&B were a living person, he's the heart and soul :)

My boyfriend and I both have a extremely healthy respect for genuine people who are passionate about what they do. It's so obvious that it's not "just a job" to the staff - they actually care! It seems so simple but for us, it's very rare and extremely refreshing.

I cannot say enough about this place and the wonderful experience we had. I will happily return at my next opportunity and I know when I do, we'll be welcomed back like old friends.

PS: The only con I can think of (and it's not even really a con) is the bed. While it's extremely comfortable it's not...exactly... activity... friendly? :) If you're picking up what I’m putting down here. However, none of the beds are so you're all in the same boat when it comes to that. I'm actually giggling a bit even writing that but I think it's still worth mentioning.

My wife and I found this place through Living Social, and it was definitely worth it! Our room was very clean and comfortable. It's not your typical B&B, in that there isn't a cooked to order breakfast. Instead, there were varieties of cold cereal, homemade muffins, oatmeal, yogurt, etc. I actually preferred this type of breakfast, as I found it healthier. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this B&B, and will likely go back for another visit.

Not sure how it's gotten any great reviews.
The shower will haunt my nightmares. A dark tiled hole that's covered in mold. It takes 15 mins for hot water to arrive from the room next door (rm 5) where a couple of maids hang out and monitor you as if you're on a do-not-fly list. You depend on room 5 for water so if they flush you'll jump from the disgusting shower to avoid burning. It's not sanitary even before covid.
The people at the restaurant are great. Super friendly and good food. That somewhat saves it but I can't see coming back.

As the sign in the kitchen states: Bed and Breakfast, you make your own. There are no frills here. The folks are very helpful and friendly and everything is very clean. However, there is no storage space in the bathroom, not even space to place your toothbrush. I agree with a previous reviewer about the blinds in the bedrooms. Not only can people see in, but you know when the sun comes up. Probably when the trees leaf out, the first rays of sunlight won't be as evident in the bedrooms. The B&B is located on a highway with lots of truck traffic. The location is convenient to D.C.and the area is very pretty - lots of farms and park land. Also, guests should be aware that there is wi-fi but no cell phone service.

The management and staff are caring people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. If you are looking for a bucolic setting, food prepared with skill and style, and served by attentive friendly folks then this is your kind of place. You will not be disappointed. Jim B., Room 10

Thanks god we did not stay in motel b/s of old and creepy bed and appliances. When we booked it we thought the price is for bed and breakfast but we got there we found out it was for motel. You should be crazy to pay $80 for such a terrible room in such remote motel. The bath was so small which didn’t have bathtub. It was just wasting gas and time and when we rejected staying there they charged us $8 cancellation fee for their confusing options.

we had two of the available rooms in the B&B (not the motel building) and it was full of character and quiet (apart from the wildlife!) A bar and grill is right next door (walking distance) with a great friendly welcome and great food. The owner took the time to come and say hello and the food/beer/wine was at a great price too.

This was just a stop over for a longer journey but I could have easily stayed longer and just enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the place.

My partner and I came here for the weekend and loved it very much. It's an adorable farm and everyone was extremely friendly! We enjoyed going down to The Lost River Grill (bonus it has a great bar with an awesome bartender too) and having dinner there. In fact, when we were there they had open mic and we very much enjoyed the music and my partner also borrowed someones guitar to play a few songs.

There is tons of local hiking places near the BnB and its very easy to reach! We highly recommend visiting Trout Pond Lake and hiking Lost River National Park.

Thank you for a great stay!

The weather was also BEAUTIFUL!

I bought this for my partner's birthday through a Groupon deal, after reading the TA reviews, and I'm glad I did, although I was a little unsure at first. For one, this place was in the middle of nowhere, and two, when I called to make the reservation, there was nothing to confirm it... no email or confirmation number. I know it sounds silly, but in this day it's just something you're used to and it helps in case the hotel/B&B makes a mistake. But once you are there you quickly learn it's just a small, family run operation that is pretty chill about everything.

The B&B was cute and quaint. Once we arrived and went to the door of the B&B, we saw a sign said that we had to check in at the restaurant that's about 100 yards from the Inn. From the looks of it, there's no one living in the B&B. The kitchen is updated and modern and well equipped. Our room (#3) was nice and cozy - a private bath, a chair to sit on, and a king sized bed that was super comfortable. There was no one else staying when we were there, so I can't speak to any noise from the other rooms.

Breakfast in the morning was continental, and there were some decent choices in both food and drink. Since the kitchen was open to guests, you could get coffee or tea or water at any time. When we woke up, everything was set out for us on the counter, and we could pick and choose.

The restaurant that's called the Lost River Grill, right near the B&B, is quite excellent. There's a variety of choices (healthy, vegetarian, vegan, along with traditional food) and a good drink menu. I would recommend eating there if you stay!

I have two negative comments about our stay, and I do hope the owners are reading this and can incorporate this feedback into their place:

1. You MUST get new blinds in room 3, and any other rooms that have these same blinds. We had them completely closed and left 1 light on in the room when we went to dinner. We took a short walk in front of the B&B after dinner and could see right into our room! When we went back up to check to make sure we didn't open them, sure enough, our blinds were closed... it's just the style of them. Yes, I realize that the B&B is in the middle of nowhere, esentially, but everyone wants their privacy.

2. I was rather chilly, and the room didn't have it's own thermostat. The one in the hallway is locked so that guests can't change it.

A side note: I was a little concerned as a lesbian couple, traveling to a remote place in West Virginia, but there was no need to be worried. Lost River is actually a gay friendly town and we were welcomed.

All in all, a great stay. We'd come back.
