Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had an irritating night at the Travelodge. Arrived late with two tired kids. Checked in, unloaded, and discovered that the thermostat on the heater did not work - only options were full blast or off. Reported this to desk staff, who gave us a different room on another hall. After loading up the sleepy kids and our stuff and moving, we found the next room had a major mildewy smell. Heat seemed to work fine in the beginning, but after an hour refused to kick back on. We gave up and slept in the cold room. The room was cheap and had queen size beds, and has a dandy Shoney's next door for breakfast. Otherwise, this hotel has little to recommend it.

Old hotel but clean only one key per room. It is a nice location but needs to be updated. The service was good and breakfast was good.it is kind of hid by a Mexician cafe. Clean quite place to stay for a short time.

This is not a bad hotel. It has seen better days, however. It is a solid concrete building, not creaky like those wooden Super 8's. When kids run down the corridor, everyone in the building doesn't hear it. My room was in need of an updating. Although the furniture and fixtures were high-quality, they were very worn and scuffed, and looked as if they were from around 1985. The mattress was comfortable, however, and everything in the room worked. I checked in late. The evening desk staff was efficient but not very personable. The morning staff at checkout were very friendly, however. They told me that this hotel is to become an EconoLodge.
The entire building is non-smoking and that information is well-marked almost everywhere you look. Despite this, my bathroom smelled very strongly of cigarette smoke. I do wish hotel guests would be more considerate of others.
Breakfast was included in the room price but is pretty minimal. The breakfast room was in another building and in retrospect the meal probably wasn't worth the time it took to find the room. Free parking in a close-in suburb of Charleston; restaurants and gas stations are nearby; easy access to the interstate.
The price was very reasonable at less than $50 a night.

If I had my own transportation, I would have left this hotel immediately. It was a business trip where a coworker held the company credit card and was using their personal car, so I had no choice in the matter. I have never stayed in such conditions before. We had a non-smoking room; however, the room smelled of smoke. The hallways reeked of smoke so much so that it took my breath away. The furniture had not been cleaned, and there was sticky stuff all over the place. The bathroom was dirty, and there was a hair in the sink. I was not surprised when in the middle of the night the smoke alarm went off and the hotel had to be evacuated as a result of cigarette smoking in a non-smoking area. Needless to say, I will never stay here again.

This was a nice enough place. Not fancy, no pictures on the walls--but comfortable bed, decent bathroom, and clean. Staff very friendly. Fridge and microwave in the room. There is a small fitness room. In the interest of good wi-fi service, I was given a room close to the entrance lobby, however the telephone at the front desk is VERY loud and awakened me several times during the night. The ice maker was right outside my room and also awakened me. I could hear staff talking fairly loudly during the night as well. This could be avoided by requesting a room on the second floor.

We have to be honest but we were skeptical about staying at this hotel. However, we were tired of driving. When we found out the price was around $50, we became more skeptical but thought "it is only for one night." We were right in booking a room here. Our room was very clean, comfortable, and quiet. The staff was very considerate and helpful. If you want a clean room at a great price, this is your place to stay. We were able to use the $ we would have spent on a higher price hotel on other things on our vacation.

This was one of the worst hotel experiences of my life. Looking around one can tell that at one time this was a very nice Hotel. However, on entering the clerk just looked at me as if to say "what do you want." He acted irritated that I wanted to rent a room. All the surrounding Hotels were full so I decided to continue the process. I told the clerk I was thinking about renting a room to which he responded "Well are you just going to think about it or rent a room?" I was shocked but needed to sleep so I said that I needed to rent a room. He registered me and gave me a room on the first floor as I asked. When I got to the room it had not been cleaned. So I went back to the front desk and told him. He gave me another room on the third floor. When the elevator doors opened the hallway was 90 degrees and there were bleach stains all over the carpets and the entire place although fancy at one time looked like a disaster. I got to the room and opened the door and the lights would not come on. All of the lights and appliances were unplugged. I plugged them all back in and turned on the air... yea! it worked. the room did not look bad but when my wife turned down the covers she said there were hairs in the bed... ew. In the morning I went down to the breakfast area and it was a joke they had a very large man attending playing music loudly on his phone while he played video games. Bad coffee, stale food products ... we did not eat there. I decided to let them know at the front desk in a very polite manner that the hotel although badly maintained could be a very nice place with some adjustments and maintenance... I said "Excuse me can I speak to the manager or the owner?" the desk clerk rolled her eyes and said "Oh boy I can see this is going to be a long day!" So I decided to keep my comments to myself. I will never stay here ever again. It felt like a scene out of a horror movie.

First off i would like to start by saying that they charge us 3X more then the room was worth my family and i booked our rooms a month before our visit. Once we arrived the lady at check in was helpful, (thanks) But when we got up to our room the toilet was nasty the sheets and quilt smelled like they had not been washed in weeks and the bathroom door was broken. This is not a place that i would be returning to. Definitely Not Worth The Money.

I had booked my room for a week and after only one day I had to check out. The rooms are nasty and the staff are even worse. The ladies behind the desk did nothing but gossip about other staff. When complaint went to the manager she just blew it off. WARNING DO NOT EVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL. She's the only manager I'd ever seen to ask for a tip.

Every hotel in Charleston was full because of the car show that week, except this one and upon arrival we could clearly see why! No hot water, couldn't use the exercise room, tub was disgusting, bed was broke, and the night manager had the personallity of a wall.
