Looking for a place to stay while traveling through West Virginia, this looked to be the best option in Charleston. When I had booked online, I opted for a little larger room and with a view of the downtown, hoping the extra expense would add to our enjoyment. The additional space made our stay more comfortable, but the view of downtown turned out to be simply overlooking the parking lot with a view of the Starbucks and Shoney’s next door, so not at all worth that additional charge. The bathroom had a walk-in shower, which we very much preferred over the traditional showerhead in the bathtub you have to step over. All-in-all we enjoyed our brief stay here and will very likely stay here again the next time we are visiting Charleston.

We stayed at the Courtyard at Marriott. The room was ok, bed very comfortable, people were nice. Toilet handle was hanging off, but it still flushed if you held it. We were told breakfast was served from 9-11. We got there at 9 and were then told breakfast was from 7-9, but we were able to get coffee....at $4 each. So, we missed that completely. It is right in the center of town.

We stopped there on our way from Michigan to Coastal Carolina. We were met by Cindy and she did an amazing job of checking us in and attending to our needs. Our rooms were modern, clean and the facility itself was clean. I was also impressed with their COVID-19 related policies, both in employee PPE use and frequent cleaning throughout the building. I felt very comfortable staying there with my family and if I ever find myself going through Charleston again, I will stay there without hesitation.

Horrible customer service. As a platinum member, this location does not honor room upgrades if your rate is below $100 per Lee, the manager. This location also automatically gives you welcome points as a platinum member instead of asking if you want the food and beverage credit of $10. Even when you ask for the credit, they only give you $10 total but the platinum benefits states $10 for the member and $10 for a guest. You have to tell them you want a total of $20 for you and your guest. This location sure feels like they are nickel and dimeing you and being basically cheap. Also housekeeping tried to walk in at 1030am even with the do not disturb sign being up. Maintenance (that we did not request) later keyed in without knocking or announcing who he is. This was weird because front desk manager saw us walking out but we had came back in without the same manager noticing us waking back to our room so I don't know if it was coincidence or not that a unidentified male keyed into our room after we were seen leaving to get some food. We spoke to the manager who did not seem concerned and only said that usually they knock. We will not be coming back to this location due to safety concerns and poor manager customer service.

Hi TravellingAnthony1, Thank you for being a valued platinum member with the Marriott Bonvoy program. Your loyalty level is appreciated and it lets me know that your have certain expectations and I apologize for not meeting your level of satisfaction. Great customer service is a bare minimum and it is disappointing to know your were not satisfied. There are specific ways to present the points or food and beverage credit part of our loyalty program. Your feedback has allowed me to understand that we need to improve on our delivery of the program, staff protocol and handling of special situations. This type of service is not typical for us and I hope you will give us another opportunity to stay with us in the future to regain your confidence. I sincerely apologize and hope to see you again in the future. Be well, Cindy Bagwell, General Manager

Checked on on Friday, September 3rd, as I walked into the room and put my bags down I see spaghetti noodles on the floor. Dried old noodles on the floor of what is supposed to be a clean hotel room. I thought hotels were using the cleanliness of rooms due to COVID. Since it was old dried maybe there was no possibility of getting a virus from it? As I started to look around the room to see if not was just a “miss” or a full lack of cleaning, I noticed dust all over the desk and TV stand as if it was never wiped down. So I asked my husband to check the bathroom and he says”your not going to like this”. Mold in all corners of the shower and the floor of the shower was speckled black. Okay anyone who cleans knows that a little bleach and elbow grease goes a long way. After seeing this I went down to the front desk to let them know and request a different room. When I went in to the other room the first place I checked was the shower. Black hair covered the drain. I didn’t need to see the rest of the room as that was enough for me. I went back to the front desk and said no thank you!

From a back room I hear a lady state”just give them the 5th floor” I am not entirely sure what this meant but I knew I didn’t want to go into another room to only be disgusted again. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. They did not even offer to clean the shower and vacuum again. (FYI, wore flip flops in the shower) There was no attempt to correct the issues.

Later discovered the mini refrigerator and microwave had never been cleaned. Also, the bathroom sink did not drain. If your cleaning staff do not know how to clean, may I suggest teaching them again the basic cleaning techniques.

We were without power for several days due to the ice storm so we decided to find a place to stay. This was not our first choice because it’s around $120 a night but all of the $100 or so places were booked. It was totally worth the extra $20 a night to stay here. Very friendly staff, very clean, comfy rooms, and possibly the quietest place I’ve ever stayed. Internet was fast and we were plenty close to anything we needed. Would 100% recommend staying here.

Having stayed here numerous times we always enjoyed the location, free parking and quality of the hotel. BUT now you charge $37 for valet parking with no option for free parking. Outrageous for a Courtyard where I park free around the country

Goodbye, I will go to the water front location.

Staff was very accommodating and friendly! The power went out for most of the first night I stayed there and the room became terribly stuffy. I thought perhaps they would have a generator.

Some aspects I liked: no tub, nice glass shower doors, cute decor, bed faces front window, mini-bar with fridge and microwave, good martinis

Some I liked less: mounted wall T.V. was at an odd angle, no complimentary breakfast/snacks etc., pricey food.

Hello Robotny, We appreciate your response which keeps us informed of our guests point of view. This is an unlikely response because I think this review may be for another property. In your comments you mentioned that there was a power outage and our wall mounted TV's were at an odd angle. This property has not has had one power outage and that was in the month of July and our TV's are not mounted on the wall but they sit on a dresser. I would like to discuss with you and invite you to reach out to me at your earliest convenience. Be well, Cindy Bagwell, General Manager

Staff and set up provided confidence that the hotel was taking COVID seriously. We got some local take out and ate on the patio overlooking the river, which was a nice benefit after driving from Memphis to this stop on our return home to PA. Relatively new property. Very clean.

Tesla supercharger on site.

Attractive river walk and charming street all close by. Town has an awesome bookshop/gallery/coffee shop.

Ideally I would recommend charging your tesla here— or parking for lunch and walk as a break from your road trip. Highly recommend this. As for the hotel;

New-ish and clean-ish
Not sure anything in the area is better.

Missing tile in bathroom. Escutcheon hanging around shower head, thermostat flashing the need for a new battery. A firm mattress that would be great (so, when new) if not for the indentations. These are signs of a hotel not being maintained.

I would not come back here mostly because I can taste the dust. The dust that is in the vent system- is my guess, since room did not seem to be adequately maintained.

The rooms are clean and the hotel about 8 years old ( I asked).

Again, check directly with the hotel, yet this is a NEW and beautiful property, get a room facing west towards the river, very quiet, outdoor gas fire pit and staff is very accommodating.
