Our hotel in Charleston, West Virginia is the perfect choice for both leisure and corporate travelers. After a day of activities, relax in our indoor heated pool and get your day started right the next morning with our Express Start Breakfast Bar. I had not planned to stay at this location but I received a call from the manager at another HIE in Charleston that they were renovating and my stay might not be great. I appreciated that and I booked three rooms at this property.
It was more expensive due to only having suites available, but I thought it might be nice to have an upgrade.
I'm not sure if this hotel is a remodel or a new building, and I was excited to see the bright lights in the lobby and smell of fresh paint and carpet.
However, there are alot of little things that aren't up to standard for what I expect from an HIE.
Parking was terrible, and when I inquired about options, I was told to park along a side street, but to leave room for other cars to get by. I see that the property is resurfacing their lot, but a little better signage or instructions BEFORE I had to ask would have been a nice customer service touch.
There were hairs all around the perimeter of the bathroom that I cleaned up before my wife had a chance to see them. We arrived late so I didn't want to have to move rooms. I was tired.
The molding on the coffee table was peeling off and I almost broke it off when sitting down.
The darkening shade would not raise in the room. Not sure if a cord is missing or what. The other shade did work properly.
There is no place (other than the breakfast room which opens at 7 AM) to fill a water bottle or get water. Not even in the fitness area, which usually always has such a simple amenity.
I also noticed that there were lots of small details like pieces missing from hallway (fire) doors and other doors that simply wouldn't fully shut (Fitness room).
I know all of these are minor things, and when staying one night there isn't the chance for management to correct them. It was just disappointing.

Just a random stop while traveling. The rooms are what you need, a place to sleep. They looked like they had a lot for breakfast too but I didn't have any. There staff (Sandey) was so helpful. We had some issues with technology and room keys at midnight and she was so very nice and helpful. We got it fixed right away. Of course she was still down at the desk when we woke up the next morning still smiling and greeting us after working all night.

Just okay. Room was fairly clean but use a deep clean. The refrigerator was not turned on and the freezer tray was filled with water. There was no luggage rack in the room. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was okay. Hotel was okay for an overnight stay. The staff was very friendly.

However, the freezer tray was filled with water, no luggage rack in the room and you also find the room in need of some deep cleaning, I am sorry for the letdown. Just checked in and if it wasn’t 10pm on a Holiday weekend I would be checking out. This is one of the filthiest hotels I have ever stayed in. The comforter was covered with dirt, the wall next to the bed was disgusting. The floors were obviously not vacuumed and when I wiped down the surfaces with a Clorox wipe it was black with dirt. I am really afraid to even spend a few hours here and I will be gone as soon as the sun comes up. No toilet paper AT ALL in the room and no drinking cups. The Fan on the AC barely worked but since I was afraid to use the covers I guess it doesn’t matter. Avoid this hotel at all costs. With the corona virus being what it is you would be better off staying in your car. I travel this way often and all I can say is NEVER AGAIN! I am am a very disgusted IHG member😡

We visit the Charleston area twice a year to compete at one of the local high schools and we always continue to stay here. Our team is always travelling throughout several states and this is clearly one of our favorite places to stay. The entire Holiday Inn staff has always been kind and gracious to all of us; we always feel welcomed here. All of the staff is so accommodating to us, especially with the many changes and requests I always seem to have. Rooms are comfortable, in good condition and the Wi-Fi is fast, stable and password protected. Easy access, right off I -64. The hotel has an arrangement worked out with another hotel chain for use of the hot tub, plus there are several restaurants in the area.

Everything about this place was disgusting lol. For $225 dollars I got a room with nasty stains all over the furniture and a couch with mismatched cushions and a restroom that didn’t have a light. Floors were dirty everywhere in the hotel. My key card to my room looked stained? Rotten bananas for breakfast. I didn’t see any staff around the hotel except someone would occasionally man the front desk. However, bed was comfortable and I slept well. I wouldn’t have stayed there but it was the weekend and everywhere was full and I had to stop. If I ever find myself in this exact same situation again I have decided to find a nearby woods and withdraw 225 one dollar bills to use as campfire fodder to stay warm. Overall, very bizarre experience and do not recommend this place.

Disclaimer : I found the hotel in the location I wanted on Google Earth and then went online to book it. This was MY mistake, I didn't know there were two HIE's in Charleston, WV a city of under 50,000 people. I didn't pick the right one. However having said that, if I make a mistake I usually bend over backward trying to convince myself that what I got was as good or better than what I wanted. We got to our room to find a noticeably vile odor, also my mistake for not bringing it to their attention when we soon had to call and inform them that our room had no wash cloths, hand towels, or coffee and that the run and jump Olympics going on in the room over ours was annoying at best. We had to make a trip downstairs to get the items that had been overlooked but the noise continued. The one person on duty was too busy to attend to that. The next morning, needing a dirty clothes bag, my wife started to get the unused one out of our trash can. Mistake!! Whatever was in this receptacle was the cause of the odor. Out we go. Our check in person was very friendly and efficient and the breakfast was okay, even if Covidly hand prepared by a staff member.

We tried to make the best of this one night stay…changed rooms at check in when the stuffy smell and mold in the bathroom wall drove us away. The next room was decent enough but this hotel is just sad. Needs a renovation in the worse way. Has that old design from years ago with tiny elevators, tiny doorways, tiny bathrooms and cheap looking decor. Everything is dated and only marginally clean. The breakfast area was deplorable! Every single chair was stained and the guests trash bins were disgusting. Just go elsewhere

Good thing they were remodeling, room was nice but not the best for the price we paid. Very small bathroom, you had to close bathroom door to get to toilet paper and you had to stand between tub and toilet to get door closed. Tub was very slippery, no non slip strips. Pool was very warm but doable, again very slippery steps into pool. Only had 1 luggage cart and couldn't find it at checkout so we had to make 2 trips to get luggage down to vehicle. Breakfast was a joke, cold egg omelet with veggies in it, hubby didn't like anything in his eggs especially veggies, other choice was biscuits and gravy, and not much gravy. No juice, only coffee. Wished we had paid for a better breakfast at cracker barrel.

Our group has been staying at this location for many years as we are competing as a team at a local high school. We've always enjoyed staying here, staff is the best, all of our rooms were well maintained and clean. Nice pool, Wifi works well, plenty of food options nearby as well. Thanks to the entire staff.
