We only spent one night at this location. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was your typical Holiday Inn Express breakfast. The outside of the hotel is dated but they had plenty of parking. You are walking distance to downtown. Overall, I would stay here again.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights with a hotel Pre Pay. A friendly masked receptionist behind plexiglass quickly noted our paid reservation, checked my photo id, put a pending charge on credit card then issued our key cards. We took one of their 2 slow elevators up to the 6th floor. Our requested quiet room was carpeted #634 with a comfortable king, refer, micro, coffee/tea and a fully equipped bathroom with quick hot water and tub shower. The nice sized TV had the normal desired cable channels, a working desk, a good window AC and great WiFi. The nicely equipped gym was closed for Covid-19. Courtyard by Marriott Tesla Charging Station is across the street. The well organized and complete 6 AM weekday breakfast was served by a very nice and efficient masked attendant in the breakfast room: banana, yogurt, packaged oatmeal and cereals, cinnamon bun, bagels, scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuit, blueberry muffin and coffee. Guests returned to their room or ate at the spaced tables. This half-occupied hotel is in the process of renovating its ~100 rooms. Although there are plenty of Covid Caution signs and the hotel staff were mostly compliant, some guests were not masked, like the 2 working crews (4 men each), making us exercise caution. Overall, we had a decent stay for $103 per night.

I stayed last week at this location and it is one of the better holiday inns that I’ve stayed in. They are working on remodeling, as the rooms can use it. The staff at this place is out of this world though. Especially Amanda at the front desk and the breakfast person but I failed to get their name. Will be back next time this way!

In the past few years we have been staying in Air BnB’s because they tend to be cleaner and less-trafficked than hotels. We weren’t able to find one in the area on short notice, so we decided to give HIX a go. We chose HIX because we have had generally good experiences with them in the past. We checked in and headed to our room. Upon opening the door, we were surprised to see it aleady occupied! Back to the front desk we went, only to find a line of people waiting, no clerk and a sign that said “Back in 5 minutes.” 10 minutes later one of the people tracked the clerk down. We got a different room. Back up we went, only to find THAT room either occupied or never cleaned, with trash and debris on the table. Back to the front desk we went, yet again. Third time was a charm, finally, with a clean, unoccupied room. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was hot with good pressure, which was great. We had their hot complimentary breakfast, which was much appreciated. There was a gloved server who served guests, as opposed to guests handling common serving spoons, etc. Great idea, but the server wore a loose-fitting mask that didn’t cover his nose, so he was basically breathing all over the food he was serving to dozens of people. He also bussed the tables, and I can’t confirm that he changed gloves between those tasks. Hopefully he’s healthy! I don’t want to knock all hotels because of one bad experience, but our stay at this location just strengthens our desire to steer clear of high/traffic, low-staffed hotels and go with Air BnB’s instead.

My son had his official college visit to the University of Charleston. While he stayed on campus I stayed here. It’s about 8 minute drive. The room was very clean and comfortable. The night desk clerk and morning desk clerk were very friendly and helpful. This property offers free breakfast, which included lots of hot choices, cereals and breads. It was very good and filling. The area was very clean and kept that way. The gentleman that was handling breakfast was “Johnny on the spot”. This property also offers discounts for UC families.

Upon arrival to the hotel, it was very sketchy from the exterior. The parking lot was in poor condition and it was not in a nice location at all. However, the bright side was that the room was much nicer than expected. It was clean and comfortable. The bathroom had decent towels and the bedding was comfortable. My only big complaint was the extreme lack of water pressure in the shower. I wish that this chain of hotels would not continue to install the water flow reducers in the shower. Makes for a lousy shower for their guests. Would I stay again? I hope not to have the need to visit Charleston again. It was not a destination place that I would need to repeat.

Stayed one night on a road trip. The room just wasn’t that clean The price of the room offered at the desk was more than what was advertised on their website but they honored the lower price. The breakfast area was not as clean as it should have been either.

Pros: Very friendly staff. Continental breakfast had plenty of healthy choices. Location was within walking distance to may restaurants.
Cons: Parking lot was congested with construction equipment and vehicles. I had to switch rooms after a sleepless night in a dingy room with an awfully noisy and poorly functioning AC. The staff at the desk was helpful overall and seemed overwhelmed by my request, but ultimately got me into another room. The new room was nicer, but unfinished and smelled strongly of paint. It did not have a microwave and mini-fridge (standard at HIE and present in my previous room). When I called about it the staff member said that those amenities were not included and it was a mistake that they were in the room I had.

Two doors down from us, they were renovating the other half of the hotel. At 8 am, drilling began and was very, very loud. Scaffolding was outside our window - made you wonder who was peeking in all day. Sure didn't feel safe leaving our laptop there. Construction workers were always in the elevators, not wearing a mask. I'm sure it's normally a good place to stay, but they should not be doing construction right where people are staying. Also, they did not service the rooms, yet did not say so. We had just stayed in Morgantown previously and they didn't, making it clear they were short-staffed and asking if you absolutely needed the rooms serviced. A little heads up would have been nice, instead of having to go down to the lobby for more towels before showering.

We booked for two nights. Great walking location in downtown. Rooms were clean. Sheets were great and beds comfy. Breakfast was included on the weekend and was sufficient. Hand sanitizer located throughout the hotel and everyone was social distancing.

Unfortunately, our hotel doesn't allow pets. However, the Holiday Inn and Suites Charleston West is pet friendly. Their pet fee is $25 per pet per night.
There are more places to choose from in the Charleston area.
