It's so convenient to stay at the Griffin Hotel during a Colonial Williamsburg (CW) visit. You park right on site and leave your car because everything is within walking distance. Admission to CW and breakfast is included in the package. Each and every staff member is very friendly. Even the servers at the historic taverns are well versed on the history of the place.

Colonial Williamsburg recreates the time just before (mostly) the American Revolution, when people debated what to do in response to the British Parliament's treatment of them as second-class citizens and not full British Citizens. We know what happened, but back then, they had to work to a revolution for the first time, with no assurance of success. Visiting here and hearing the debates, speeches, re-enactments and so on restores my faith in American democracy.

We LOVED our experience at the Griffin Hotel. The room was large and well appointed. We liked having a sink at both ends of the hallway. There was lots of closet space, space under the vanity for suitcases, small but adequate frig, nicely-sized shower with three different lighting settings. The room was worth the price. However, with any of the rooms with fireplaces, there is a strong smoky smell in the room and you may be housed next to guests with barking dogs.

We had a cute patio that looked onto the tennis courts, but it was the entire outdoor environment we swooned over. The greenery, birds chirping, nature trail outside our door, the gorgeous golf course. We took so many walks, especially at sunset. We miss it all already!

ALL staff in every part of all the Williamsburg Hotel chain were absolutely marvelous: welcoming, friendly, willing to satisfy the guests. We ate at different restaurants everyday; while some meals were a bit pricey, the fare was tasty, well-prepared, and well-served.

Overall, we truly enjoyed our experience and would recommend that guests stay in one of the hotels there.

We have loved our stay at the Griffin! The rooms are very spacious and very affordable, which is great when you want to relax after spending the day in Colonial Williamsburg or Busch Gardens. The hotel concierge was extremely helpful with tickets for special events and where to get lunch. We’re looking forward to coming back in the future!

When we arrived in our room, there was no hot water. I called the front desk and was told someone would look into it. I waited about fifteen or twenty minutes and called back to ask what the status was and if I should expect someone. I was then told that a repair person had fixed it for the building and to wait another fifteen or twenty minutes before trying the water again. This happened another time, with still no working hot water.
I had driven for 2 days and was completely exhausted and just wanted to have a bath and go to bed. Instead I was on and off the phone with the front desk for over an hour before they finally decided to move us to a different room.
I was told that I would be receiving a discounted room rate because of the inconvenience, at least.
The bellboy was rude, annoyed that he'd been sent to help us, and was in a terrible hurry to get away.
It took them over two hours and two phone calls before bottled water was brought up.
Upon checking out, I received no copy of my receipt, so I called and asked for one to be emailed.
Reading it, I found out that I had actually been charged for a wine purchase that I did not make and had received no discount as I was promised.
When I called to straighten this out, the woman I spoke with was clearly very annoyed and was very rude and condescending. She told me that the first copy of my bill was mistaken and she was sending me a corrected bill. The new bill showed that I was refunded a little over $58 on 1 December.
As of today, 10 December, I have still not received the refund I was promised.

I am sorry to say that, aside from the pleasant check-in experience, our stay at the Griffin was a very disappointing, time-consuming distraction from the little time we had to enjoy Colonial Williamsburg.
I would appreciate the issue of the refund and a closure of business with this hotel.
Thank you.

The location to Colonial Williamsburg is very convenient and the outdoor setting is very pleasant, we had a lovely pond with a fountain right outside our patio. However, considering the cost of our room we were very disappointed in the comfort and quality of the Griffin Inn. The room, and our entire wing (The Gold wing) had a very musty smell. The beds were very uncomfortable and the AC very loud. We also had the misfortune of having a room next to a family with a very yappy dog. Room service did not replenish our toilet paper and took quite long time to bring us an extra set of sheets and a blanket. All and all it wasn't a horrible experience, but considering the cost of this hotel, it needs to do some major updating and quality improvements. Unfortunately, it's the only reasonably priced property on the museum property, so if you can stand a few nights of discomfort then go for it.

We recently stayed at the Griffin Hotel in a King size room. I'll start with the "bad". The room could use some refurbishment for sure, the sheer drapes were beyond repair. They were badly shredded. We had several canisters of anti-mold and humidity remedies in the room. Aside from those issues, the room was great. We couldn't believe how huge it was. In a very unofficial way I measured it and found that the main area was about 22' by 30'. There is a king bed, pull out sofa, 2 large chairs, a fireplace, a desk, several tables and of course a tv. Then there is the dressing area. There is a sink, a coffee area, fridge, safe, large closet and of course a bathroom. The bathroom has another sink area, a separate room for the toilet, a walk in shower and then a tub/shower combo. All in all more than enough space for the 2 of us. The bed was comfortable and the room was very quiet. A family of 4 or more could fit in here without issue. We were within walking distance of everything. It was quite a walk to the pool and the signage is horrible. We had to ask several people but we finally found it. Once there we were very happy. I'd stay here again for sure. We did not require housekeeping at all since we were only there 4 days. We brought our own coffee but I presume that they'd refill the k cups if asked.

Huge disappointment, won't stay here again. Rooms are extremely dated and smell musty. Carpets are worn, stained and dust all over baseboards. Walls need to be plastered and painted, need new curtains and sheers. The door to the room has a huge gap between door and jam on side and bottom. This allows light to shine in on bed and noise from hallway. AC is musty smelling and loud. Bathroom ceiling had evidence of leaks from above and needs repair. Housekeeping did not replenish toilet paper and we had to call front desk two days in a row. This hotel is not worth the price. It's such a shame because it's a great location and we love supporting CW. Mgmt needs to do a walk through of all the rooms and make necessary repairs and improvements.

The location of the hotel can’t be beat. We walked across the street to all the historic houses. The grounds are beautiful, very upscale and well maintained. The price of the room was very low considering the location and grounds but the room itself smelled musty and there was a large beetle and a moth in the room. However, they may have flown in when we opened our deck doors. We had to change the dates of our stay last minute and they were very accommodating. We had to pay a bit more because the only room left was a deluxe king, but it was still pretty inexpensive compared to what we’re used to paying for much smaller rooms. The sofa bed was very uncomfortable but that’s to be expected. If you need 2 beds I don’t recommend this room with 1 King and a pull out. We originally had a double Queen booked. My one complaint is that they didn’t refill our coffee pods when they cleaned the room.

The Griffin gold building was in a secluded section of the property and the room was large. I especially appreciated that the hotel worked with us on getting an accessible room. My wife has some challenges with stairs.
The lady at the Williamsburg Inn was very helpful. We were greeted at checkin and checkout by a very nice gentleman who was helpful as well. All staff were friendly and helpful!
The bed was comfortable and the building was quiet. Slept well! The location is right across the street from colonial Williamsburg. The building has antique furniture that puts you in the mindset of a historic location.
The fitness center was excellent and there was a spa.
I greatly enjoyed our stay!

This was a very disappointing place. Initially we tried to stay at the Woodlands, but each time we booked, I’d get a message the payment was unable to be processed. So I canceled and went with another of The Colonial Hotels - The Griffin.

This place was pretty bad. The faucet ran constantly, the outdated furniture was really yuck with holes bad just worn out. The bathroom was not very clean with weird mold around the sink rim. The shower drain had pink mildew and discoloration. The room is very big though, the beds weren’t real comfy and had trouble sleeping.

The trick is the main hotel seems very nice. The Griffin is not and so it’s kind of a big jump down in quality. The location is fantastic though. It’s good enough for a night I guess but wouldn’t stay here again.
