Turtle Cay Resort is often lauded for its prime location at a tranquil end of the beach, offering easy access to nearby attractions. The family-friendly amenities, including well-equipped kitchens and pools, are appreciated by guests. However, the resort's rooms are frequently criticized for being outdated and not thoroughly clean, with some amenities like balconies being off-limits.
Visitors also express dissatisfaction with the value, feeling that the cost is too high given the quality and maintenance issues. Furthermore, service at the resort has been inconsistent, with some guests encountering staff shortages and others finding the staff to be friendly.

Detailed Reviews
The location is excellent, can walk everywhere we needed to go, even to a fishing expedition. The resort is fairly clean, although the accommodations are tired and in desperate need of an update. We stayed in the 2-bedroom suite, and the full kitchen was very well-stocked and had nice, full-size appliances. Even though we stayed in a 2-bedroom suite, they have a "1 parking pass per reservation" rule, which is ridiculous when you're paying for 2 rooms, and one of those is clearly set up as a separate rental. For the amount we spent for 3 holiday-weekend nights, they could have very nicely not charged the extra $18/day. Seems like a small thing, but it's the little things that make an impression. Pool area is nice, with a kiddie pool that was great for the grandson, but ZERO supervision from anyone on staff. We saw cars pulling up unloading multiple people, coolers and all; were they guests? friends of guests? Kids were jumping off the rock waterfall right next to the "do not climb rocks" sign, a little bit of a free-for-all overall. Short walk across the street to beach. The only contact with any employee was person at reception (unfriendly and not so thrilled with their job obvioulsy) and concierge (very friendly and knowledgeable, great dinner recommendations.)

You may want to close the drapes in the bedroom when dressing or undressing. This unit is on the second floor and the entrance is into the bedroom similar to a motel room. People are walking right by your bedroom window to get to their units. Other than that, this is a very comfortable one-bedroom unit. It has a full-size kitchen and a comfortable living room. The view to the beautiful courtyard that has two pools, and two hot tubs was somewhat obstructed due to the balconies being rebuilt.

It was overall a good experience. The room was nice and clean. The bathroom was a good size. Not crazy about the shower. The shower curtain touches you while you're in there. A curved curtain rod would be better, plus do they wash the shower curtains between guests? The curtains in the room were falling off the wall and there were no blinds, so we had to keep the curtains closed if we didn't want people looking in as they walked by. Also, the sliding lock at the top of the door looked like it had been ripped off the wall and screwed back on a few times. The tile floors were sticky but otherwise the room was clean. The ice maker in the hallway outside our room was so loud!

Right across the street from the beach. Close to several restaurants. Grocery was just 5 minutes away. Room was clean and up to date. The pool area was very nice. Too bad it was too cold to use it. Staff was helpful and responsive. Answered all our questions.

We were very disappointed during our stay at Turtle Cay Resort. Everything from the room cleanliness, the staff and the amenities like the pool were terrible. Our room was not very clean and when asked after a few days to get it cleaned, we were told that we needed to pay $67 since we were staying only a week. We never experienced this type of charge at other resorts. The pool was the worst part. There were ducks there that the staff said were protected and couldn't be removed. I am sure there is an organization that can remove them properly and without hurting them. Their feces were everywhere and the attitude of the staff, when asked about cleaning it up, was 'We can't constantly clean the pool'. Well, I think you should do something since people are staying here and don't want to get sick or be near duck poop constantly. I think the staff are the real reason this place is in such disrepair. The attitudes of the staff are terrible. No one ever acted like they wanted to be there. We went with our kids to a slime making activity near the pool and one of the staff just sat there with his feet up on the table looking at his phone and never spoke to us. The other person I had to actually ask to tell us what to do. They were just not interested in their jobs. And you could tell that this is the case. For days I saw the same pool towel sitting on the same chair out by the pool. There is no care for the location or the guests. The room is also falling apart. The oven door was broken, tiles were loose on the floor. And it just looks old and dirty. I would not return here.

It's not a Hilton and it doesn't need to be. The prices were fair for each night and the hotel is located in the quiet side of Virginia Beach. You can get breakfast a few steps from the hotel, you're given a pass to use the gym in another hotel across the street, and the beach is nearby. Lastly, the hotel staff are welcoming, accommodating, and will take care of whatever your room needs.

The main suite area had EVERYTHING. The full kitchen had all the appliances and cooking supplies you could ask for. There was even a blender. The place was capacious and comfortable with tasteful decorations. The extra bedroom, with its own full bath and kitchenette, was obviously intended to be a separate living unit that can be rented on its own, but it was connected to the main suite by a door that locked from both sides. Having that extra bedroom was key to my family for comfort and convenience.
The balcony faced the outside of the hotel, so the view was of the streets -- not the best. Our rooms could be quite noisy. A lot of traffic and noisy cars made it harder to sleep. I would recommend getting a room that faces the courtyard, which was very nice and attractive. My guess, though, is that due to the configuration of the hotel, the 1 and 2-bedroom suites all face outwards towards the streets.
One of the hot tubs wasn't working properly, but overall, the pools and hot tubs were well maintained, clean, and very relaxing. The pool towels they provided were surprisingly thick and soft and absorbent. As the hotel is very close to the beach, it was easy to move between the ocean and the pools. One thing I did not care for, however, was that the lounge chairs had cloth covered cushions. You could often see the wet imprint of people in the cushions. Using a material that could readily dry or be wiped off makes a lot more sense to me.
The underground parking lot was a nice touch, especially since we were there during the heat advisory. Our vehicle was nicely sheltered from the burning sun no matter the time of day. On the other hand, the parking spaces were VERY tight. You need to be careful with anything larger than a compact sedan. If you have a vehicle larger than a minivan you need two adjoining spaces.
Overall, my family and I were all very satisfied and would stay here again.

Resort should have been closed during repairs. No terrace looking at scaffolding. Room was dirty and smelly. Carpets needed a deep cleaning as well as the walls Internet was so slow that it was useless. Door to room did not have a secondary latch. Coffee pot was left dirty. Missing utensils and glasses in kitchen. Would have never went there had we known the condition of construction. If Hilton is taking the resort over they should have at least maintained the property or close it.

Thank you for taking the time to share and review your recent experience with us. Please accept our sincerest apologies for a less-than-ideal stay. We pride ourselves on providing our guests with a clean, comfortable, and enjoyable stay, regardless of ongoing projects, and I am disheartened to hear this was not your experience. While we do our best to be proactive regarding the renovation information, I completely understand the frustration upon arrival. As we are now closed to complete the balcony project, and continue to join hands with HGV, we look forward to the changes and improvements to come. Additionally, your comments regarding missing kitchenware and room cleanliness have been shared with the appropriate managers so we may continue to improve our techniques. We truly appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback as it is integral to our future success. We hope to have you back for a more relaxing stay once the dust settles.

There is no age restrictions on who can use the hot tub. As a result , numerous children (ranging from toddlers to adolescents ) were allowed to use hot tub while my bf & I were in it. As a result, I became very ill with a viral infection from body waste inadvertently released from children/ diapers.
The carpeting in my room as well as thru the resort is badly in need of replacing. It does not appear that they are using my high maintenance fee to properly sanitize & refurbish necessary items.

We are sorry to hear of your experience and hope that you were able to address your concerns with management during your stay. Now that we are owned by Hilton, there will be full renovation of the units in a few years once the last of the ongoing steel restoration has been completed. In the interim, all units will be deep cleaned including carpet shampooing twice every year, as opposed to only once a year.

Make sure while at this property you take anything that is valuable out the room every time you exit the room because the staff is waiting to slide in and help themselves to whatever they want. You go report it and their response is if the items are returned we will call you. Yeah right you thought we were just gonna give up. You will see us again very soon.

Hi Vicky, it is the resort manager's decision whether the circumstance warrants a refund. It also depends on where you made your reservation from since the third-party party booking will be the one responsible for any refunds issued.
