I can't say enough great things about the Sugar Tree Inn. It has an awesome rural location that really allows you to disconnect from the stress of everyday life and it's only minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway. We stayed in the Sugar Tree Country room in the main lodge and it was beyond perfect. We went midweek in October and had the lodge to ourselves. There is a huge fireplace and plenty of firewood to keep a fire going while you unwind after a long day of hiking in the jacuzzi tub. Russ offered some great suggestions on things to do around the area and it did not disappoint. Don't miss the Natural Bridge and the look out from the top of Crabtree Meadows is breathtaking. No wifi or tvs was hardly noticed as there was plenty to do to keep you occupied and the cell service was great too (even when I had to use it as a hot spot to sneak in some work). If you're thinking about booking remember to #bookdirect as they will make a donation to the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.

Sugar Tree Inn is a heavenly location with very comfortable amenities. The Lodge was built in the 1980s with old wood and stones that are absolutely beautiful. Not only was our room nice but the common areas are open for reading, puzzle solving, and journaling. The Inn Keepers (Brenda and Kevin) took good care of us and the Chef who cooked our meals just sold his restaurant and moved here. The food was fresh and delicious. We can’t wait to return for another visit. We’re going to try to visit several times a year. There is a lovely trail through the woods for hiking, too. Oh, and the Hummingbirds in July were fun to watch while rocking on the front porch.

In years past, we've booked a long fall weekend at one of the lodges in Shenandoah National Park only to find that Skyline Drive is closed due to ice or other inclement weather. To avoid that calamity, we thought we'd try an inn that we had stumbled upon nine years ago. We were pleased to see that the property was under new ownership and well maintained. The new owners, Kelly and Russ, are nice folks who chose the innkeeper lifestyle to raise their kids in a beautiful setting near extended family. We enjoyed our conversations with them and appreciated their suggestions for nearby activities, dining, etc. Our room was quite comfortable. We enjoyed using the fireplace each evening while sipping wine purchased from nearby vineyards. Breakfast was robust and yummy, shared with like-minded travelers seeking an escape from city life. Dinner is also available on some weekends and we regretted that we had not planned for that. (The menu sounded scrumptious.) The 1/4 mile drive to the inn from route 56 is not for the feint of heart and an SUV or truck is highly recommended. We will definitely return to this gem!

Came here for a birthday weekend getaway. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for a relaxing, and low stress vacation. The owners Kelly and Russ go out of their way to make you feel welcome and to ensure that you have the best stay possible. Their breakfasts were amazing as well as the dinner. Our only regret was that we wished we would have done the basket lunch that was offered when we heard other guests saying how amazing it was. Next time we will get one for sure!

Property is beautiful and there is so much to do close to here. The best part for us was not having WiFi so there was no excuse to be doing work instead of relaxing. Already looking forward to returning next year!

We just spent a couple of nights at the Sugar Tree Inn and enjoyed our stay.

Brenda and Kevin are very welcoming and warm hosts. Enjoyed talking with them. Brenda's dad is the chef and he is a great cook! We had dinner there on Friday night. Wonderful salad dressing (his own secret recipe). Brenda's stepmom helps in the kitchen too and she is likewise very friendly.

We stayed in the Sugar Tree Country room - great rustic cabin charm with a fireplace and vaulted ceiling. Very spacious and comfortable room. Comfortable bed as well, so had a good night's sleep both nights.

We had a beautiful sunset from our room our first night there. Absolutely gorgeous!

I enjoyed the large living area with the fire going on the chilly mornings. Just a very relaxed setting. I read a book each morning with a cup of coffee waiting on my husband to come down for breakfast. I am an early riser.

We liked that you could have breakfast during a window of time 8:00-9:00 and not a set time. We stayed at two other inns on our 9 day vacation in Gettysburg and the Shenandoah Valley and both had set times and you felt rushed to get there and get seated.

The only downside is that the drive is up a mountain and the long winding driveway itself are both steep and narrow. They are located in the George Washington National Forest so it is on the side of a mountain. My husband's truck has 4 wheel drive fortunately, although his long truck bed made for some sharp turns. The inn is wonderful, so this should not deter you, just be aware that it is steep. I am afraid of heights myself so was very sensitive to it.

Nestled in the woods right off the Blue Ridge Parkway, Sugar Tree Inn provided us a wonderful escape from our busy city life as we ventured down the Parkway. We had an absolutely amazing two night stay - choosing to stay in the lodge in the Tye River room. Kelly and Russ were amazing hosts that struck the right balance of attentiveness vs privacy. Their website is incredibly detailed in describing the accommodations so you know what to expect. The lodge itself and room was rustic and nicely decorated in keeping with what I imagine a lodge in the mountains should look like. Breakfast was provided every morning - although It was scaled back for us because we stayed during the week (they apparently do a larger breakfast on the weekends…hate to have missed that!). The location was perfect for our day trips to go hiking. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and we will definitely be back again!

We stayed in the Cyrus McCormick room. The room was cozy with lots of interesting antiques and a beautiful fireplace. Kelly was a wonderful host always taking the time to offer information and serve a wonderful to go breakfast with fresh eggs fruit and pastries. The main room in the lodge is also friendly and welcoming.

The hiking was excellent with various levels of difficulty. We hiked Crab Tree Falls trail (approx 6 miles) which was close by and a beautiful water fall view for the entire hike.

We went to Sugar Tree for a childless weekend, anniversary get-away and were not disappointed! We loved the ability to unplug with no TV or WiFi (we did have Verizon service and data). We stayed in St Mary’s Cabin which offered privacy and comfortable space. The bathroom was spacious with a double sink, walk in shower and jetted tub. We took advantage of breakfast every morning and the add on dinner option Fri/Sat in the quaint dining room in the main lodge. We also opted to purchase a picnic lunch which was well worth it and filled with yummy treats. The hosts were friendly and accommodating, providing suggestions on things to do in the surrounding area. The only challenge some might face is with a vehicle with low clearance. Our Subaru Outback had no issues getting to and from the lodge. Highly recommend this B&B for anyone looking for a relaxing escape!

My wife and I took a ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway, and stayed at the Sugar Tree Inn on the way down. It's just off of mile 27 of the parkway. The road going to the Sugar Tree is slow and windy, but easy to drive on. Look for the Sugar Tree sign on the left. It's big, and hard to miss. The inn is like an old log cabin in the woods. It's bigger inside than it looks and there are a few buildings out back that also have rooms to stay. When we got there, we met Kevin who showed us around. It's an impressive cabin to say the least. Beautiful front porch to sit and watch the hummingbirds. There are really a lot of them! We arrived on a Wednesday night, and dinner is not available on those nights, but they do provide several things if you want them. We both had a bowl of soup and a roll. There was a small and reasonable price for the extras like soup. It was good enough to fill our stomachs and both soups tasted awesome. Also, there's a small fridge in the kitchen that has beer and wine, which you just take, and leave money on the honor system. Our room was beautiful - Tye River Room. It was quite large, had a wood burning fireplace and a huge comfortable king bed. There were several sitting areas, as well as a huge outside porch. It's very peaceful, so we both slept well. When morning came, we had a great breakfast prepared by the chef. The driveway is "as advertised", but we had no problems maneuvering it with our Lexus sedan. It's a little scary, but just take your time, and you're fine.

We stayed at the Sugar Tree Inn for 4 nights in St. Mary’s Cabin to celebrate a wedding anniversary. The Inn is absolutely beautiful and St. Mary’s Cabin is quite large, but very warm and cozy with a private back deck facing the woods. The cabin was immaculate and smelled fresh and clean as soon as we entered. Kevin & Brenda were fantastic hosts, welcoming us and showing us around as soon as we stepped up onto the porch and chatting with us throughout our stay when we were around the main inn. Chef Gerry prepared a fresh, hot, delicious breakfast every morning and an amazing NY Strip steak dinner that we got to enjoy for our anniversary. I highly recommend you try one of his delicious dinners if you stay overnight in a Friday or Saturday night. He is quite the chef! It was great to relax in the porch in the evenings or sit out on our deck and listen to the birds singing in the trees. There are plenty of hiking trails within a very short drive as well as very easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway just 3 minutes away. There are many vineyards in the area and the Inn has a small tavern where you can also purchase local wines and a small assortment of other adult beverages as well. Don’t let the “reputation” of the driveway deter you. It is manageable. You just need to pay attention and take it easy. We travelled in/out numerous times throughout our stay with no issues whatsoever. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and definitely plan to return again!

I did not find the rooms dusty or musty. Everything was clean and fresh. We visited in the Fall and had a very pleasant experience. It is a quiet place, only two rooms have TV, I think, and Wi-Fi is challenging. But if you are ready to be unplugged it is an awesome place to stay!
