Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Two couples stayed in two units, arrived 1st Jan 2013 for three nights. Helpful, friendly staff; clean & tidy rooms, but small (which we expected at that price). All good, except for the biting insects at night - after the first night we spayed our room with Raid, and that problem did not recur. When we ran out of milk it was quickly replaced; when our friends needed fresh towels, they were quickly delivered.

Although on a busy highway, it is set well back from the road so we could not hear the traffic at all.

We highly recommend this motel to those interested in exploring Northlands and Bay of Islands who don't want to break the budget and want 3 star relative comfort.
-the bloke at reception was super super friendly, informative, and relaxed. Top bloke.
- the pool was such a pleasure, not heated but when we went it was available all night and nice size for us.
-the view from the outdoor table area was really nice, some rainforest and water as well.

- the room was a little stuffy, most people slept with their windows open and a mozzie net to let air in. The bathroom got very humid after showering. There was no fan or aircon.

We enjoyed watching a movie on a small television.

The place is super close to Opua vehicle ferry to Russell, and only 15 minutes drive to Paihia.

Would stay again. Cheers!

Loved staying here, great hosts and very refreshing swimming pool. Really loved sharing the kitchen so could meet other travellers :o) Right back off the main road, so noise didn't exsist and easy 10 min drive to the shops and attractions.
Good value for money, will be back. Thanks to the hosts, 100 % friendly kiwis.

If you like to stay in filth...this is the place to stay!!!

The communal kitchen was an absolute disgrace. Food left for days down in the plug hole.
Utensils still with food left on them. Tins of food, roar fish left in fridge. Never cleaned out.
This place was not at all sanitary. Rooms were smelly with a whiff of B.O abound.
Lazy staff were more interested in playing video games or watching 'soaps' on tv rather than coming to attend to guests.

I thought foreign hostels were bad enough but this lodge takes the cake.
Definitely not worth the $$. Zero stars for this hole.
This review comes from local New Zealanders who would be ashamed if overseas tourists stayed here.
High point of the accommodation...LEAVING!

Mosquito's ate me and my partner to death whilst sleeping at night. We had no windows open, so must have been in the room prior to us arriving. When we told the manager he said "we get them all up this coast". Not helpful when I got aprox 20bites and my partner 40!!!

We enjoyed our stay here and would return any time. Clean with a relaxing atmosphere. A friendly host who was more than willing to recommend local walking tracks and other places of interest. A quiet, peaceful destination. Have recommended to others. Good value for money and will stay again.

This was a great place to stay. The staff were exceptionally friendly and let us check in early. The room was very clean and fantastic value for money. It was also in a handy location. Unfortunately it was raining but the swimming pool looked lovely.

Nice and clean, and excellent value for the price. Nice casual guy. I'm sure it would be great in summer with the swimming pool. Perfect spot for exploring the North and surrounds. An upgrade on the TVs would be nice.

We stayed here for a night - the beds were great and comfy! Shared cooking facilities gives you an easy opportunity to talk to others and although too cold for me to swim - there is a great swimming pool!
