Detailed Reviews
Paheke is a beautiful old home, with an amazing garden full of old trees and flowers. The hosts are warm and helpful. Juen felt like my grandma, like we had know her for a long time. I wish we could be neighbors. The food was amazing - both the breakfast and the dinner we ordered. It is an easy drive to many interesting and beautiful places and Juen gave us lots of helpful advice on things to see. It was unusually hot and we had booked a room with no AC, but they upgraded us to a bigger room with AC without us even asking and without charging us extra. It was the nicest B&B experience my wife and I have had.

Staying at Paheke will be a night my husband and I will never forget. We had spent the day cycling the full length of the twin coast cycle way. It was dark and cold by the time we arrived and the house was so warm and inviting inside. Our Balcony room was absolutely gorgeous and after a full day on the bike the bath felt like pure bliss. I highly recommend booking in for dinner. Everything was divine and Juen and Anya go above and beyond to make your meal a memorable experience. The food, wine amd service is absolutely top notch.
We had a very comfortable sleep and in the morning we were served yet again another spectacular meal. The entire table laden with delicious hot and cold breakfast items for just the two of us.. We truly felt like royalty. Thank you so much for your hospitality and I cannot wait to come back and stay again!

We stayed for 3 nights in the Balcony Room, which was a superb choice, with views over the lovely grounds. The rooms are well appointed, with plenty of bath linens, tea and coffee making facities, magazines and books. We had 2 chaises longue in our room, making for pleasant afternoons sitting in the sun reading, with the balcony doors open. Breakfast each day was substantial and tasty, with choices of continental and/or cooked options. Fresh fruit was in abundance. A favourite of ours was the homemade marmalade. The coffee was very good too. On one of the nights, we arranged a 3 course dinner cooked by our host Mrs Juen Duxfield. We had the salmon main, which was delicious. We would recommend at least one meal. On other nights we ate at Kerikeri, which was only about 20 minutes away by car. There are 2 comfortable lounges on the ground floor for the use of guests. In one of these is a substantial bookcase containing many books about the mid north region. Televisions are in the bedrooms.
We cannot recommend this establishment more highly. Mrs Duxfield is a longtime resisdent of the area, with a wealth of knowledge about what to see and do and how to get there. Pakeke is conveniently placed for discovering the mid north.

This old house has been beautifully restored and has high quality, modern rooms with views over the pretty garden. Downstairs the traditional common areas have lovely antiques. A delicious breakfast is included. You can order dinner (24 hrs in advance) which we really enjoyed. Run by mother and daughter who are just lovely people. The local town has a few simple places to eat or for more choice drive to Kerikeri.

The rooms were large and tastefully decorated. The owners are a delight. Our meal and the wine were excellent. This is. an all round lovely place to stay.
Not being a dog person I wasn't too keen on the dog that liked to be under the table at dinner. Dog owners have trouble appreciating not everyone is like them.
For those who like a bargain I think this place is under priced and it is an absolute bargain.

We based ourselves at Paheke for 2 days cycling the twin coast trail. The owners are friendly and take great pride in their house and the wonderful food served for both breakfast and dinner.
Rooms were clean, comfortable and tastefully decorated. Was worth every penny!

Wonderful hosts. Delicious locally grown food. Comfortable and characterful rooms overlooking the garden.
A great refuge to return to after the rigours of the twin coast trail. Go the north.
9kms from Kaikohe, so handy to the middle of the bike trail. We went west 1st day and east the 2nd day. Great fun. We used TopTrail, who were great.

My husband and I stayed at Paheke for 3 nights. This is a wonderful villa with beautiful outside surroundings. This is luxurious and the balcony room we were in was out of this world amazing. Our hosts, mother and daughter were absolutely fantastic! With great stories and a wealth of knowledge. We were made to feel like a king and queen on our short stay. We are looking forward to going back. I would not hesitate to recommend to stay here. Thank you so much, our batteries charged and great company.

I stayed with my partner and two friends March 2006. It was a real highlight of our trip to NZ and Australia. The house is beautiful. The balcony room my partner and I had was exquisite. Well furnished and lovely views of the garden. Frank, who is a cool Clint Eastwood character served a terrific breakfast ( as we listened to Billie Holliday CD`s ) all brilliantly cooked by Juen--have some of her home made apple pie--the 2nd best ever after my mother-in-laws(and I only say 2nd best because my mother-in -law may read this!).
They made us really welcome, had great ideas for us to follow--go for a meal to the Landing and visit Cape Reinga and the best fish and chip shop in the world--all suggested by Juen.
It was hard to leave--what more can I say.

Paheke is an absolutely charming old house of great character & elegance which is owned by Frank & Juen Duxfield. Frank & Juen cater for the discerning traveller and deliver a very special level of service and comfort. There are two Luxury Suites with ensuite bathrooms which are situated in a new extension to the house. These are decorated in an understated classic style, with top quality beds, cotton bed linen & feather duvets. Both suites have ensuite bathrooms and an ample supply of freshly laundered quality towels.
In the old house there are a further three rooms decorated in the Victorian style which also have top quality beds, cotton bed linen, feather duvets and freshly laundered towels.
We spent 2 nights in the Balcony Suite and our stay was one of the high spots of our "Round the World " trip despite the fact that it was quite moderately priced compared with some of the other excellent small luxury hotels and guest houses we used.
Of particular note was the warm hospitality; we were greeted with freshly baked biscuits and tea when we arrived; we were also given the most wonderful picnic breakfast (at no extra charge) when we had an early start on our day of departure and this involved Juen rising at 6 am to prepare it. Paheke was a delight; it exceeded all our expectations and is most strongly recommended. None will be disappointed.
