Really basic camp site with basic facilities. What more do you need for $15 per night. As a frequent camper I've paid more for less. Flush toilets and a warm (free) shower are excellent in my books. The hosts were very friendly and available for any questions, advice. They kitchen area could do with a a little updating and a coat of paint, the toilets too. They are getting there and working on it. Overall experience was vert satisfactory - I'll be back and recommend to others.

Stayed at the cowshed campground on my way north. Was so happy I did! I was greeted by a friendly host, got set up in my tent with lots of room around me and a picnic table to use! There were 4 other tent campers but we had a whole field between us so lots of space for privacy. I loved the communal space and bathroom. There were places to sit for groups or individuals and a small library of books and magazines. Would definitely visit again!

My husband phone and asked if they had a powered site. They confirmed they did but when we turned up NO POWERED SITES. Two toilets, one little wash basin, lounge with table and a separate shower. Shower worked well. Tea towels looked as if they had never been washed. It was an old cow shed originally and my husband reckoned he could still smell cows. We went into Kaikohe for breakfast as we could not stand using the little kitchen. They had a map of the world on the wall and I was surprised to see how many people had stayed there. No doubt few would have returned. The worst camping ground on our tour of Northland. It was actually expensive for what little it provided.
