Hone Heke Lodge is not just a Hostel is like a second Home. I stayed there for one year with my partner and we have always felt welcomed by David And Vicky who are amazing owners, hosts and people. The hostel is very clean and tidy, lots of space to cook, nice common areas, available many books and dvd s, a nice cozy and warm tv room and two cute cats Ginger and Rocket to entertain you! I have met many people at the Hone Heke and most of them they always come back when they can. I am glad I have such a nice experience and I recommend it to whoever is in the area for both short and long stays or looking for backpackers job. Thank you Vicky & Dave ❤️ Teresa&Alex

Hone Heke Lodge is definitely my home away from home and Dave and Vicky are definitely my new parents on the other side of the world. If you need help they help you with everything! if you need work you have literally a new job the next day! The lodge is super clean and super friendly! It’s the best (working) Hostel I’ve ever been! I had my best time of my life there.

My partner and I stayed in Hone Heke lodge from mid December to the end of March, so around 3-4 months. We were welcomed by the lovely Daniel and Clare when we first arrived, they were looking after the Hostel while the owners were away on holiday. They showed us around and made us feel very very welcome. They helped us find jobs in hospitality - which we weren't expecting at all, but I think we just arrived at exactly the right time! They should definitely run a Hostel of there own at some point! When the owners David and Vicki came back, they were exceptionally welcoming and lovely too. They really made us feel as though their home was ours too! There is not much more to say about them apart from the fact they're hospitality is outstanding and we would definitely return if we ever find ourselves up in Northland again. We stayed in a double room with an en suite bathroom which was perfect for the two of us. Our room was cleaned/sheets changed once a week which was totally unexpected but was greatly appreciated. The other hostel workers do a fabulous job of cleaning the common rooms and are always cheery while working! We picked up a few odd shifts in the hostel every now and again which was great for experience and we also enjoyed doing it. The atmosphere around the place is perfect and everyone that came and went were pleasant and kind. We would highly recommend Hone Heke to any other backpacker we crossed on our paths.
