We stayed in the house Doolittle. A great location with all the trimmings. The quality of workmanship was also good. Reception was excellent. Terrain nice. Cottage is in the mandarin orchard. There are some chickens walking around the property and a little further there were also 3 pigs.
There is a swimming pool, in short stay is equipped with all smuggled and a great base for the wider area.

We stayed in a cabin with our dog for a week and we just loved it. Claus and Inga made us feel most welcome. The cabin was super clean and comfortable with everything we could possible want and the added bonus was opening the french doors to a deck and looking straight into an orange grove. Complimentary oranges were waiting for us on arrival and they were delicious. We recommend this accommodation highly - well worth the stay and fabulous value.

We have stayed here on each of our four visits to New Zealand.
The first time was in the main lodge using the backpacker facilities. The facilities are excellent as is the cleanliness of the accommodation.

The other visits we have stayed in one of the three holiday units which are set amongst the organic citrus groves. The standard of these are fantastic, the kitchen is well equipped, our bathroom has both a separate shower and bathroom. The beds are comfortable.

Our accommodation has a heat pump, Netflix, and insect netting over the windows.

On top of all this the staff are friendly and helpful.

The place to stay if you visits Kerikeri.

This place is amazing. Inga has gone out of her way to ensure it is home away from home. We stayed in the Fishmore yellow cottage and it was amazing. Fully equipped kitchen, with really nice stuff. Insect screens on the windows. Beautiful bathroom. Two TVs. BBQ. Full sized fridge with freezer. Deck with outdoor furniture to sit and eat your breakfast on or have a drink in the afternoon. Gorgeous salinated pool which is perfect temperature. Feed the pigs and play with the dogs. Enjoy your complimentary citrus. Inga and Klaus were so welcoming and friendly. Free washing machine. This place could not be better and we have already recommended it to our friends. It was by far the best kitted out and value for money place we stayed in on our 20 day tour of the north island. Thanks so much Inga and family!

So quiet, peaceful and relaxing place to stay. The cottage was clean and had everything you needed for a short stay. Kraus and his dog were super hosts. Had to cut our stay short because of the Coronavirus so hope to get up there again some day.

We stayed for 5 nights at Relax a Lodge in a double room with shared bathroom in the main house (after extending our stay from 3 nights because we loved it). We had a really great time, felt totally relaxed and very well taken care of. Thanks to Claes, Inga, Tiphaine and Nika the dog for your wonderful hospitality. We would highly recommend Relax a Lodge to other travellers.

+ excellent value for money
+ great location to explore the bay of islands and northland by car
+ short drive to kerikeri for groceries etc, about 5 mins
+ quiet and peaceful location surrounded by an orchard. Fresh oranges for free everyday on the table and you can go and say hello to the resident farm animals- 3 pigs and 12 chickens!
+ large comfortable rooms with built in storage for hanging clothes and storing suitcases, heater for warmth in winter, includes towels, each room has French doors to a small seating area on a terrace overlooking the garden or the pool.
+ probably the best wifi we have had in our 6 weeks in New Zealand
+ lovely characterful communal areas, cosy fireplace at night, good kitchen utensils and free tea, coffee, spices etc. even a dishwasher!
+ great music
+ excellent hosts
+ good information boards on things to do in the area

- probably best to have a rental car if staying here as not directly in kerikeri town centre

We arrived for a 3 day relaxing weekend and as the hostel was full were worried about traffic noise and people noise, we ,stayed in a cottage and it was wonderful. The main doors all overlook the orchard. You can see your neighbours cottages, and the main house but we didn't hear a thing all weekend. Chickens, dogs, pigs and an endless supply of fruit. Clean and tidy inside, functional kitchen and great bathroom with spa bath. Take your own shampoo and soap as none is supplied.

After a 3 to 4 hour drive from Auckland we arrived at Relax a lodge. We were welcomed and shown to our cottage. We stayed in the Dolittle cottage and we loved it. The cottage was really comfortable, clean and well equipped. The shower was great with loads of hot water. Teabags, coffee and sugar were provided. We had a veranda with a table and chairs and a hammock chair.
What appealed to me most of all was the situation of the cottages ( there are 4 but all are private) in orange orchards where during the day very pretty hens range free and will come and visit you but they do stay on the grass!
There are also 3 very friendly pigs in another field who come running to the fence to have their backs scratched. Last but not least are the two friendly dogs who are always ready to say hello. If you like animals you will love it here .
Kerikeri itself is a delightful little town with plenty of shops. We stayed for only 3 nights and could easily have stayed longer especially at Relax a lodge.

We stayed in the private cabin which had everything we wanted and more. It had a veranda for sitting out and enjoying the sun, a fully furnished kitchen (with extras like orange squeezers, salt and pepper and fresh oranges on request) and Relax a Lodge is a short drive to the town of KeriKeri and longer walks.
We went there to relax and we did just that. We were pleasantly surprised on arrival as the pictures didn't seem to do it justice.
The nearby road could sometimes be heard but it was usually over shadowed by the sound of the birds, the wind and their free range chickens. Feeding the pigs was a particular highlight. Excellent value for money.

Looked all good on booking.com so went ahead a booked. 1 hour before checkin opened on the day of arrival I get a phone call saying 'I'm not gonna be here when you arrive but I'll tell the 2 random guys staying here your details and they will show you to your room'. No mention of keys or security at all. When I got there it looked run down and unappealing. I made the decision to cut my losses and stay safe and went elsewhere. Certainly not a professional place to stay.

Response from Inga Inga, Owner at Relax a Lodge
Responded 6 Oct 2020
Hello Rebecca, We are sorry that you had a bad experience and didn't like the appearance of our place. We do not give out your personal details to other people but we wanted to make sure someone shows you to your room at arrival as we were out when you arrived. There was no mention of a key because the main house does not have any keys. It is very safe here. The lodge is in a country setting and because we live on site we feel that there is no need for keys or added security features. Not sure what you mean with a professional place to stay but we have run the lodge for over 20 years with many very satisfied guests.
