Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked out 11 rooms for a Waitangi weekend work stay and it was an excellent choice on what is probably one of the busiest weekend of the year. The units were that older concrete block style but were spotless, really spacious, and just moments walk from town and supermarket. The fully stocked kitchenette and layout of having the single beds in the back bedroom with the queen bed in the front lounge area would make it ideal for a family stay. There was an excellent playground just over the back fence and the pool area was safe for kids. The parents in our work group said it would be ideal for a family stay.

Three of us stayed here and enjoyed it so much we stayed for an extra night. For a very reasonable price we had two bedrooms, a large lounge & a kitchen dining room. All were clean and though not luxurious was very comfortable. The only reason I haven't given it 5 stars is that our 90 year old had trouble with the shower over the bath. The Manager & staff were also very friendly and efficient.

I was there on work for a couple of day. The room & bathroom were spotless. Spacious room (one bedroom apartment). Sky Sports channels, tea/coffee/biscuits. Rooms were made everyday. Kitchenette will all the cutlery. Laundry service free of charge. Most importantly, 2 mins walk to any restaurant of your choice. Great location. Would definitely stay here again when in Kerikeri.

Surprisingly quiet considering it is right off the high street. Kerikeri is a peaceful rural town. The rooms are a good size with nice dining area, the kitchenette contains everything you could think of. Very nice bathrooms. The rooms are serviced daily. All very clean and comfortable. The managers are very helpful and polite. There are restaurants nearby and a supermaket about 50 metres away. All very easy. I would stay again and recommend to others too. The Stone Store is about 30 minutes walk away, then on to river and forest trails, and waterfalls.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights. We were warmly welcomed and had 2 glasses of wine and treats awaiting us in our cabin/room. Linens are nice, comfortable bed and everything provided that you might need. Our fridge didn’t seem to be working when we arrived but the owner came over directly and got it going. The owners were keen to see that we were happy with our accommodation. The gardens are lovely. Our cabin felt tucked away and private. It was quiet and serene but also close to restaurants and interesting sites. Screens on the windows, which we have rarely seen in NZ, kept critters out at night. AC or heat if needed besides bed warmers. We highly recommend the Colonial Motel and will stay again next time we are in the area.

Lovely quiet family room, was nice & cool in the heat of the day. The pool was amazing & the kid thoroughly enjoyed cooling down. We loved our stay & will definitely be back again, owner was very friendly to talk to & extremely helpful in providing us with a port-a-cot so we didn't have to bring our own. Loved how close we were to the shops & supermarket but how private & quiet it was really lovely. Thank you again for a wonderful stay!

Our family of 5 adults, 3 kids (ages 14, 11, 10) & 1 toddler (2 yrs) stayed here for 5 nights from 27th Dec to 1st Jan. We stayed in the 2 bedroom & 1 bedroom rooms. Kerry & Gary were wonderful hosts. Kerry is always smiling and both her and Gary are always willing to help. We felt very welcome and comfortable here. Leading up to our check in we had a few changes (cancelled some rooms and then added another person to our booking). Kerry was accomodating and made it hassle free. We arrived early on the day of check in and were able to check in early (thankfully as we had just completed an 8 hour drive) despite it being a busy time of the year for them. Location is right in town, in between McDonalds and New World, which was perfect for us. Everything was within walking distance. The rooms, although well used, were comfortable and spacious for us. Kerry let us borrow the motel’s hose attachment to clean our jet ski (thank you!). We used the motel machines for laundry. $5 per load and had to wait until after 1pm, but that didn’t bother us. The weather was so warm that even when you hung clothes out at 3pm it would be dry within a couple hours. If you’re travelling to Kerikeri or surrounding areas I highly recommend staying here.
