Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We didn’t have a reservation but were warmly welcomed. Our room was spacious, very clean, with heat pump for efficient heating. The motel complex is conveniently in the middle of town in a semi garden setting, set back from the road so no traffic noise. This was very good value accommodation.

I stayed in a garden room for one night. The motel's location is good - on the town's main street, just steps away from restaurants and shops, yet tranquil on the compound. The room overlooked a lawn behind the car park and has an outdoor sitting area which was comfortable and open. The room was spacious and main windows were double glazed which was a huge plus. The furniture was fine with ample sitting areas from a motel room's standard. The heat pump / air conditioner was a bit difficult to adjust and response was a bit slow. I would be happy to stay here again if I visit the town again in the future.

A clean and tidy motel in the centre of Greytown. Choose one of the garden rooms which is slightly larger. It does not provide cooking facilities and the staff clean your breakfast mugs etc and there is no sink. Plenty of places to eat in the town. The only real negative is that the sofa to sit on is very uncomfortable.

We received a nice welcome right in the middle of the town. The rooms were well equipped and well presented. There were all the amenities you would want, shops and restaurants all within easy walking distance. It is also a good base to explore the area including Cape Palliser and Lake Ferry. It is close to Wellington and is a good spot to stay before catching the Interisland ferry. We did enjoy Greytown and would thoroughly recommend the Greyfriars Motel.

Location in Greytown = perfect For people with a disability it’s well laid out. Everything looks well kept and the people really wanted to help. Beds were good, the heating good, just right for a wet weekend in my case… Tonnes of cafes & restaurants close by also which makes a difference.

We used this motel as an overnight stop on the way from Hawke's Bay to Wellington. It was clean and staff were friendly and we didn't hear much traffic noise, despite it being on the main highway. My only gripe, and it had nothing to to do with the motel, was that we stayed overnight on 28 Dec and there was very little open for meals. The Swan was open, but was full because almost everything else was shut.

Thanks for the great review Graham. Yes we were a bit frustrated ourselves that most restaurants were closed through the break.

Great location in town, near conveience stores, pub, restaurants. Clean and well provided rooms. The layout of the rooms and grass area makes for a great format for afternoon drinks. Very welcoming hosts. Thanks.

Lovely, tidy, clean Motel in the middle of Greytown. Super comfy bed and great shower pressure, nice surroundings, lovely garden areas and very handy to the local supermarket for quick essential items. Short walking distance to all the lovely boutique shops and eateries. Easy access to the local bars and restaurants and a good overall spot to explore the general area from. Lovely management team, always willing to help. Highly recommend this place and would definitely stay here again.

The motel was extremely clean and had everything we expected, even the air conditioning chiller that we needed due to the lovely warm weather. Even though it is on SH2 it was really quiet, and plenty of parking. The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. They contacted us to let us know we had left a phone charger behind, offering to post it to us - great service.

Room Tip: Go for an early stroll around the backroads of Greytown (away from the main road) as it is quiet,...

Perfect positioning and well appointed and spacious rooms. The proprietors could not have been more helpful on arrival. They had previously contacted me to see if we wanted a pair of single beds or a large king bed. Loved having that personal and friendly contact. As we had arrived from the Ferry and had an early start we opted to stay in and did not take the opportunity to have the 10% discount from The White Swan Restaurant which is almost opposite. We were also advised that if we wanted to have coffee in the morning and walk around the shops (gorgeous by the way) we could leave our car in the car park til we were done. I would totally recommend this lovely friendly hotel. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant.
