Detailed Reviews
Stayed here for two nights over new years. It was really busy during this period so I had to book a Queen room for the 30th ($150 NZD a night) and a King room for the 31st ($170 NZD a night). I was using Greyfriars as a base for Martinborough wine tasting and had friends staying in Martinborough as well (10/15 min drive). The location can't be beat, its right in the centre of Greytown main shopping district and is a short walk around the corner to a very large FreshChoice supermarket. Check in was very easy and the staff / owners were very welcoming. I explained that I would be switching rooms to the king room the next day and was given a small bottle of milk for my coffee in the morning. My room was unit 6 which was set back a little from the main car park and I loved the privacy.
The unit itself was very spacious for a queen room, there was both a dining and living space and a small bar fridge, tea and coffee sachets, toaster, microwave and kettle, but no kitchen sink or cooking facilities. (This didn't bother me at all, just thought I would mention) and an ironing board and iron. The room had a modern air conditioning unit. The TV had Sky TV (cable tv) with a large number of channels. Bathroom was quite well sized and had two sets of towels, small packet of tissues, shampoo and conditioner, 2 x small hand soaps as well as liquid hand soap and hair dryer.
You can sit outside your unit near your front entrance on your own deck area with an outdoor table and chairs.
The unit was very clean and modern and I can't fault anything about the facilities. I was able to utilise the location for barista coffees and the supermarket for some reasonably priced breakfast food. Despite the location to the main road I never had any concerns with traffic noise.
During my first evening staying at Greyfriars I saw I had missed a call from the office on my mobile. I went and saw the owner and he advised that they had arranged to let me keep the room I was in for the two nights instead of just one and I didn't need to move. This was brilliant for me as I saved myself $20 and didn't have the inconvenience of having to change units.
All in all, I really enjoyed my stay at Greyfriars, It was well priced, comfortable and well located. Would recommend.

Stayed here for the weekend for a family gathering. Great location in town so easy to walk to the cafes and shops. Parking is right outside rooms which makes it easy with carrying luggage to rooms. Clean and tidy.

We only stayed here one night. The location is perfect. In the middle of the lovely little village of Greytown. You just park your car and walk into the main street. The Garden is also well maintained and, as we were lucky with the weather, we were able to enjoy a cuppa and even our breakfast on the veranda. The units itself are nicely decorated and clean. The unit does have a kitchenette, but not full kitchen, so it is not possible to prepare a real meal. We only stayed one night, but for a longer stay, for me this would be an issue. Just to prepare breakfast is fine. Of course all the restaurants are withing walking distance. The owners are very friendly. The only reason why I did not give this motel an excellent is because of the price. I think, for this price, the room is too small and not a full kitchen. I do recommend the place though.

Perfect positioning and well appointed and spacious rooms. The proprietors could not have been more helpful on arrival. They had previously contacted me to see if we wanted a pair of single beds or a large king bed. Loved having that personal and friendly contact. As we had arrived from the Ferry and had an early start we opted to stay in and did not take the opportunity to have the 10% discount from The White Swan Restaurant which is almost opposite. We were also advised that if we wanted to have coffee in the morning and walk around the shops (gorgeous by the way) we could leave our car in the car park til we were done. I would totally recommend this lovely friendly hotel. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant.

My mom and I planned a visit to Greytown for my Mom's birthday. Michelle and Ian were warm and welcoming and the room was lovely and clean. A major power cut in the Wairarapa the first morning saw us being invited to join the owners for a cooked bbq breakfast in their residence. We appreciated the extra effort to ensure we had a great stay in this charming town. Thank you!!

Was a nice little motel handy to all the cafes. Had just changed owners who were away when we checked in and attended to by a very friendly lady who was Head of housekeeping. Did a load of washing and used dryer which were both free of charge. Had a nice meal at far end of town which we walked to Greytown Hotel recommended by Head Housekeeper. Small menu but great. Pasta was superb.

We used this motel as an overnight stop on the way from Hawke's Bay to Wellington. It was clean and staff were friendly and we didn't hear much traffic noise, despite it being on the main highway.
My only gripe, and it had nothing to to do with the motel, was that we stayed overnight on 28 Dec and there was very little open for meals. The Swan was open, but was full because almost everything else was shut.

Thanks for the great review Graham. Yes we were a bit frustrated ourselves that most restaurants were closed through the break.

Great location in town, near conveience stores, pub, restaurants. Clean and well provided rooms. The layout of the rooms and grass area makes for a great format for afternoon drinks. Very welcoming hosts. Thanks.

Great spot, central location, clean, good parking, well priced. Hosts were really helpful, and very flexible given we had some late room changes.
I would definitely recommend this motel as THE best place to stay in Greytown, no question….

First the good. It was clean. Good shower. Central to Greytown shops. Other than that. .well, for the price I paid I felt ripped off. Very tiny room, about 6x10m including bed (hard and could feel the springs under me) kitchen bench (no stove top, no sink), and a bathroom/toilet. Ordinary and basic. In addition, staff sat outside my bedroom smoking (gross!) while manager discussed another staff member with them. Really inappropriate for customers to be hearing.
Not much of a step up from a holiday camp cabin. At least at holiday camps you have access to other facilities. I dont mind going basic, but not when I am paying $170 (NZ) for the night. Disappointing.
