Comfortable beds, friendly hosts and handy to town.
The price for accomodation was great, especially as we visited over the festival of Christmas period.
The food was also fabulous and the front of house in the restaurant was lovely.
Highly recommend.

We met friends here for lunch as a great 1/2 way point from where we each live. Our friends had heard great things about this restaurant and they were right.
Great points: easy to park at as on edge of a very busy town. Attractive building with in bloom cherry trees and wisteria. Decor inside a refreshing mix of old and new making a great homely atmosphere.
Greeted at the bar a laid back friendly bartender/ waitress. Great service throughout with no rushing or pushing. As it was so chilled we ended up with a three course lunch. Two great local wines and (yay) well presented and tasting plunger coffee.
The menu was great with staples in each course offering.
We shared appetisers; jalapeño cheese poppers, garlic bread, chips and squid… all great. The said in particular was fresh fresh and succulent. Bread was a beautiful cob. Chips were perfect as too the poppers - albeit too spicy for one of us!
A burger and pulled pork and Jamaican fish tacos followed. All were great with Tacos beautifully rolled and sealed with bamboo stakes.
Enjoyed ourselves so much had puddings… the choices didn’t disappoint with delicious Apple strudel and panacotta with berry compotes chosen. These were great as so often desserts are so often a disappointing afterthought. Not here though!

Warmly welcomed on a busy Saturday afternoon we settled in to watch the football with beers and kumara chips. After full time we wandered in the rain along the main street and then back for dinner.
Opted for the burger for the first course and then went for the panacotta for dessert. The pannacotta was outstanding with the right amount of silky wobble and complemented with a fruit compote and dots of citrus, probably yuzu, on the plate.
Our room was small with everything you could want including wonderful pillows and a fan. It was hot.
Sure, there was some noise from the bar fundraiser downstairs but we knew about it and drifted off to sleep. A fine place to stay, warmly recommended.

After being directed by my lovely wife to bring the 20kg bags up the outside staircase that turned into a ladder at the last 10ft & throwing the bag onto the landing where I stood worn out, then to hear the owner Tony shout out “don’t use the fire escape the inside stairwell is much easier” I thought this is going to be a long night. Well I was wrong, Room 1 upstairs was quaint, very clean with a TV, hand basin in the room & the bathroom / toilet located nearby. The only addition that I would make is the inclusion of a small fridge under the TV replacing the table & yes the beds were very comfortable. You may hear a few trucks through the night but earplugs certainly sorted that issue out. The highlight of the stay was the 1860 Restaurant, my wife had Swordfish & had the Lamb, where we both agreed that it was definitely “Fine Dining at it’s Finest” Thanks for a lovely stay

Hello Rusty Thanks for your nice humorous review, glad you enjoyed your stay and also the restaurant, thanks also for the tip about the fridge I have set about Tony to put a small fridge in there today, nice to give him something to do during level 4 lockdown, (we had a spare one in storage) I even suggested it may be easier to take it up the fire escape, to which he laughed loudly. All the best and hope to see you again in the future. Ursula Murphy.

The upstairs bedroom we were in (Room 2) was on the road front and it was a choice between heat with the window closed or road noise with it open. I note that there was a fan in the room which we didn't use. Tne room is pretty basic with beds, and a hand basin. The restaurant downstairs was very good and has clearly been remodelled in the last few years. We didn't use the bar downstairs but it looked good with inside and outside tables. There wasn't much noise from the bar even though we were there on a friday night.

We were a group of MG enthusiasts after a busy day of events. Our booking was for 6 but most of us arrived much earlier. They were most accomadating and happy to provide drinks in the restaurant area.
The food was tapa style and so yummy. We had the king salmon, cured meat lamb kebabs, pork belly and a salad. I also had the plum dumplings as a pud. All highly recommended especially the beetroot cured salmon. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food. Good service especially chatting with the Austrian chef. Good wine list and hubby was most impressed by the Irish whiskey list.
We will be back.

Went to the restaurant only as it was the only one of two restaurants open in Greytown on a Tuesday night. Great customer service with the waitress but the food was VERY average pub grub which was grossly overpriced. Would recommend the other restaurant (Indian) even though we haven't eaten there.

Nice big themed rooms that are warm and comfortable in a relaxed atmosphere. Right in centre of town and with good service and excellent restaurant for dinner. Third time we’ve been here and we will be back again. Staff are pleasant and helpful too.

Friendly, welcoming staff. Sometimes very quiet, but a good local atmosphere when it's busy. Open fire. Food and beer better than average, but a bit pricey. However, it's nice to find a place that is more down to earth than some of the more "glamorous" places in town.
